I just feel like a lot of people have used the Ange sacking to bash Spurs. He finished 17th - injuries aside that isn’t good enough and I think the player quality was more the reason for the Europa League win rather than the manager. Decent enough bloke but he was out of his depth and Frank is a lot better suited.

  2. Managing the revolving door at Brentfordpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time

    Alex Brotherton
    BBC Sport journalist

Little has fazed Thomas Frank during his tenure at Brentford, especially not player sales.

The reality of being a small fish in a big pond is that Brentford have to sell their top talents when suitable offers come in - key players Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, David Raya, Said Benrahma and Neal Maupay fetched a combined fee of over £124 million.

This summer the Bees have already received an offer for striker Bryan Mbeumo worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons.

But Frank and the club's recruitment department have always found a way to replace top players with promising talents at cheaper prices.

That ability to cope with losing key players could come in handy at Spurs.

I think Spurs would be far less tempting for Frank if they weren't in the Champions League. Despite his success at Brentford, he has not yet competed in European football, so this will likely be a decisive factor. But he must know that with a bigger club comes bigger expectation? Spurs might have had a terrible domestic season, but they will expect far more than merely Premier League survival, which would always have been the main aim at Brentford. I just hope that he's given a proper opportunity to prove himself if he does make the switch.

Talking about early goals, Tottenham supporters will remember this first-minute strike by Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo at Spurs last season.

To be fair, Ange Postecoglou's side did counter with three of their own to claim a 3-1 win - one of only 11 they managed throughout the course of the Premier League season...

I think Frank going to Spurs is a bad career move. Levy’s revolving door policy is the exact opposite of the continuity that he is afforded by the Brentford hierarchy. But he definitely does deserve a chance to prove himself at the top.

  6. Frank starts fastpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time

One noteable thing about Thomas Frank's Brentford this season was their appetite for scoring early goals.

The Bees scored inside 40 seconds in three successive Premier League games in September, a strategy devised by Frank and his coaching staff to catch opponents off guard.

"Of course there is planning that goes into it," Frank said. "We have a kick-off strategy and we tweak it from game to game. And as a mindset and philosophy, we like to get straight on the front foot and be positive.

"There are some margins going our way of course, but I want to give credit to the coaching staff and the players."

I don’t think anyone doubts that Frank would be a great fit for Spurs. But with the risk of sounding naive, why would he go there? Any football fan knows that Spurs are a terribly-run club and it’s not like Frank needs a job or has anything to prove. He also is one of the most content managers out there in terms of how much he enjoys the culture and life at Brentford.

  8. Could European challenge prove too much for Frank to resist?published at 13:58 British Summer Time

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

As Oli quite rightly points out, Brentford finished well above Tottenham in the table last season.

Spurs were 17th, only the three teams relegated had fewer than their tally of 38 points.

But one thing that the Bees can't promise next season is European football.

Brentford's 10th-place finish did not prove enough to secure a place in one of Uefa's three cup competitions, while Spurs' victory in the Europa League final under previous boss Ange Postecoglou has guaranteed them a place in the Champions League.

Could the challenge of testing himself against the best managers in Europe prove too much for Thomas Frank to resist?

    Only time will tell...

Frank is doing an excellent job at Brentford so why he would move to bottom-of-the-table Spurs is beyond me. If he does move, I’ll wish him well, but I see this going badly, followed by the sack, and then we may not see him in the Premier League for a long time.

  10. Guardiola - Frank will join a big clubpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time

Thomas Frank has even had Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola singing his praises this season.

Speaking before his side's 2-1 defeat of Brentford in September, Guardiola predicted that the 51-year-old Dane would one day manage a big club.

"They are an extraordinary team," said the City boss. "What they do always makes sense.

"Every corner is a headache. They are compact. This season, they have a high press. Thomas is one of the best."

Asked if he was surprised that Frank was yet to join one of Europe’s big guns, Guardiola replied: "It is just a question of time.

"I'm good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good. It is going to happen."

In response, Frank said: "I am very happy at Brentford but maybe one day I will try something new."

It’s fair to say Thomas Frank has done a quite incredible job at Brentford. Universally loved and the team only heading upwards. The thought was he’d leave at some point, although we all had him as a shoo-in for head coach of Denmark when that chance arose. Instead, the roulette wheel of life at Spurs now seems to be calling. If he can survive the owner’s ego he’ll do fantastically. Will be gutted if he goes, but it will be with amazing memories and best wishes.

  12. Thomas Frank's Brentford journeypublished at 13:40 British Summer Time

Thomas Frank first joined Brentord as an assistant coach in 2016, before replacing Dean Smith as manager in October 2018.

In 2019-20 his side reached the Championship play-off final where they lost to Fulham, but a year later they beat Swansea City in the play-off final to reach the Premier League, with Frank becoming the first Brentford manager in 86 years to win promotion to the top flight.

Since then, Frank has established the Bees as a competitive Premier League club, recording 13th, ninth, 16th and 10th-place finishes.

At first, his side adopted a solid defensive approach and looked to score through dead-ball situations.

But last season Brentford's tally of 66 goals in the Premier League was only bettered by top-five sides Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle.

  14. Spurs expected to make formal Frank approachpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time
    Breaking

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Tottenham are expected to make a formal approach for Brentford boss Thomas Frank to become their new head coach following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Brentford are expecting contact from Tottenham in the coming days but there is yet to be confirmation of official dialogue between the two clubs.

Frank has emerged as a leading contender to replace Postecoglou ahead of next season.

The west London club would be entitled to compensation for Frank, with sources indicating it would cost Tottenham upwards of £10million to extract him from his contract at Brentford.

That amount could raise depending on how many members of staff Frank decides to bring with him if he is appointed as Postecoglou’s successor.

  16. When does the first summer transfer window close?published at 13:28 British Summer Time

For anyone wondering why we are going so big on transfer talk, so early in the summer, then here is a line from our 'Ask Me Anything' team to explain:

The first summer transfer window of 2025 will close on Tuesday, 10 June at 19:00 BST.

The summer has been split into two windows this year, with the first having opened on Sunday, 1 June.

The early window allowed teams participating in the Club World Cup the chance to sign players before the tournament begins on 15 June.

The second window will open on Monday, 16 June, before closing on Monday, 1 September at 19:00 BST for Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs.

Fifa rules state a transfer window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, hence the split this summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are the two Premier League clubs competing at the Club World Cup, but any team can participate in the early window.
