  1. 'I'll handle the boos'published at 11:36 British Summer Time

England boss Thomas Tuchel said he can "handle the boos" from supporters after his side produced an underwhelming display against Andorra in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Despite winning 1-0, England were lacklustre and disengaged. Afterwards Tuchel said: "I think we lacked the seriousness and the urgency that is needed in a World Cup qualifier.

"I think we played with fire. I didn't like the attitude in the end. I didn't like the body language. It was not what the occasion needed."

Arsenal are still expecting Martin Zubimendi to sign for them ahead of next season.

There has been talk of Real Madrid trying to hijack the deal but it would take a monumental U-turn from Zubimendi for this deal not happen.

As we reported on May 28, all that is left is for the Spain international to complete his medical.

I think Arsenal have the Zubimendi transfer in the bag! Merino is a close pal from their time together at Real Sociedad, he is also a staunch Sociedad fan and has previously told Spanish press he would find it hard to play for another Spanish team? Fingers crossed!

I can see why Liverpool keep pushing for Wirtz. With the money in football now, £50m only gets you an average player

I hope Bryan Mbeumo has a brick in hand, ready to smash through that window and move to United today because we can't afford for this deal to get hijacked!

  8. Tuchel's answer on the left wing?published at 11:10 British Summer Time

    Emma Smith
    BBC Sport

Gittens' primary role is on the left wing, and that has been a problem role for England, with nobody making the position their own.

Phil Foden played there during Euro 2024, then Anthony Gordon was Lee Carsley's primary choice during the Nations League campaign, with Jack Grealish also selected, but Gittens is a natural who is playing there regularly for a side currently fourth in the 36-team Champions League table.

This has been a season in which a young man has been finding his identity – not least in shortening his name from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens at the suggestion of his father.

Jude Bellingham became a world star at Dortmund. Gittens is not there yet, but he is marking our cards as a player who could yet follow suit.

You can read more about Gittens at Dortmund here.

  9. Could Gittens be a future England star?published at 11:05 British Summer Time

Jamie Gittens has already won international honours with the England Under-19s side, helping them clinch the European title in 2022.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder played four times in the European Championship finals and started in the win over Israel in the final.

He went on to be called up to the U21s the following year and has one goal in 11 caps at that level.

However, Gittens was not selected in Lee Carsley's squad for this summer's European U21 Championships, due to Dortmund's participation in the Club World Cup.

  10. 'Consistently attacks opponents with aggressive ball-carrying'published at 11:00 British Summer Time

Jamie Gittens was one of the breakout stars of last season's Champions League.

The 20-year-old ended the campaign with four goals and an assist for Borussia Dortmund, including an impressive effort against Dinamo Zagreb, cutting in from the left wing before producing a classy finish with his right foot.

Gittens also claimed eight goals and four assists in the Bundesliga for Dortmund, including a run of five goals in seven matches around the turn of the year and a superb strike in a 1-1 draw with rivals Bayern Munich.

A description of Gittens' main attributes from the Coaches' Voice website, external, which includes analysis provided by Uefa licensed coaches, says: "A right-footed winger who has played on both flanks. His main attribute is dribbling; he consistently attacks opponents with aggressive ball-carrying.

"He will often purposely take a first touch that has him facing his direct opponent as soon as possible, in a 1v1.

"When his opponent jumps out to press him, Gittens then has space to attack, taking the ball as close to the opposing penalty area as possible."

  11. Gittens follows tried and tested pathpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time

Jamie Gittens was first picked up by local side Reading but passed up the chance to sign for Chelsea's academy, plumping instead to join Manchester City at under-14s level.

As with former City academy player Jadon Sancho before him, Gittens chose to move from City to Borussia Dortmund as a teenager, signing in 2020.

He made his first-team debut and scored his first goal for the senior side two years later and has gone on to make 106 appearances for the first XI, scoring 17 goals and claiming 14 assists.

Like Sancho and Jude Bellingham, the move from England to Dortmund has proved a fruitful one, with a host of top European sides now joining Chelsea in tracking his progress.

  12. Chelsea's arsenal of wide menpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time

    Chelsea

Assuming manager Enzo Maresca chooses to stick with a 4-2-3-1 formation, then he must be hoping Chelsea will go into the next season with at least two players available in both wide forward positions - should they sign Jamie Gittens.

During the 2024-25 season, the Blues operated with five wide players:

    • Noni Madueke
    • Pedro Neto
    • Tyrique George
    • Mykhaylo Mydryk
    • Jadon Sancho

Ukraine international Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since December, when he was provisionally suspended by the Football Association after testing positive for a banned substance.

Chelsea have also decided not to turn Sancho's loan stay into a permanent move, so the England winger will return to parent club Manchester United.

Today's BBC Sport gossip column has a line on Chelsea's pursuit of England Under-21s winger Jamie Gittens.

According to a Sky Sports, external report, the Blues have had an offer of 35m euros (£29.5m) rejected by Borussia Dortmund, who are demanding 50-60m euros (£42-£50m) for the 20-year-old.

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Borussia Dortmund's England winger Jamie Gittens, 20, is understood to be open to a move to Stamford Bridge amid ongoing talks over personal terms, though a fee has yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

The Blues are ready to pay £30m but Dortmund are keen to hold out for more than £40m.

Chelsea are not in a rush to force through any deal for the England Under-21 international with other targets on the market, as they seek a right-footed left winger after signing striker Liam Delap from Ipswich.

They could wait until after the upcoming Club World Cup, which features both Chelsea and Dortmund, to try and complete the signing should there be a lack of progress.
