Blackburn have lost just four of their last 26 league games against Middlesbrough (W11 D11), although one was in the most recent meeting in December 2022.
Following a 2-1 win at Ewood Park last season, Middlesbrough are looking to record consecutive away league wins over Blackburn for the first time since a run of three between 1986 and 1989.
This game is Blackburn’s 5,000th in the top four tiers of English league football. They are only the seventh side to reach that landmark, and first since West Brom in April.
For a second consecutive season, Middlesbrough have failed to win any of their opening five league games in a season (D1 L4 this season). They haven’t failed in their opening six games in a season since 1984-85 under Willie Maddren.
Although they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Plymouth last time out, Blackburn’s Ryan Hedges created seven chances in the match, the most by a Rovers player in a league game since Craig Conway in December 2018 versus Sheffield Wednesday (7).
