The only previous meetings between Internazionale and FC Red Bull Salzburg came in the 1994 UEFA Cup final – Inter won both legs 1-0 to lift the trophy for the second time.
Inter have won eight of their last nine meetings with Austrian sides in all competitions (L1), while they've never lost a home game against such opposition (W7 D1).
FC Red Bull Salzburg have never beaten Italian opposition in the UEFA Champions League (D2 L4), losing 4-0 in the San Siro against Milan in last season's competition.
Inter are unbeaten in each of their last six home games in the UEFA Champions League (W5 D1), keeping a clean sheet in all five victories; they last enjoyed a longer run without defeat at home in November 2010 (10 games – W7 D3).
FC Red Bull Salzburg won their first match away from home in the UEFA Champions League this season, beating Benfica 2-0 on MD1, the Austrian side have never won successive games on the road in this competition, while they’ve never won more than one away game in a single edition of the tournament.
Inter haven’t won each of their first two home games of a UEFA Champions League season since the 2010-11 edition, winning all three home group matches on that occasion. Since the start of 2021-22, only Manchester City (12), Real Madrid (10) and FC Bayern München (9) have more home wins in the competition than their seven.
FC Red Bull Salzburg have had more pressed sequences against them than any other side in the UEFA Champions League this season (41), with 21 against Benfica and 20 against Real Sociedad.
Inter’s 1-0 win over Benfica last time out was Simone Inzaghi’s 14th in the UEFA Champions League, two coming with Lazio and 12 with Inter. He has become the ninth different Italian manager since the competition’s inception in 1992-93 to reach that total, the outright most of any nationality.
Inter’s Lautaro Martínez has the highest expected goals total of any player in the UEFA Champions League this season (2.5), though failed to score with any of his 10 shots last time out against Benfica, having netted in each his previous two home games in the competition.
Aleksa Terzic has created four chances for FC Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League this season, more than any other player for them. Indeed, two of which have been following carries (moving the ball five metres or more), no other defender in the competition so far has more.
