  2. Palace charged with misconductpublished at 14:43 GMT

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been charged with misconduct in relation to their Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on Sunday 24 August.

It’s alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) didn’t behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting and/or provocative way during the fixture.

During the match, Palace fans unfurled a banner that depicted Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis holding a gun to midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White's head.

The club have been given until Tuesday 11 November to provide a response.

  4. Palace trying to move Leeds game - Glasnerpublished at 14:37 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on having to play three matches in six days in December, after their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Arsenal was rearranged for 23 December: "We are trying the same thing that Arsenal are trying, to move our Leeds game [currently scheduled for Sunday 21 December] forward to Saturday [20 December], so we don't have two days between these games. Let's see.

"We didn't get a response until now from the Premier League, just to have the same as Arsenal, if their game is moved.

"I am always talking about making mistakes being part of development. I think that the EFL and the Premier League didn't solve this problem before the start of the season - they will learn from it and I am pretty sure that next year they will have the solution before the start of the season.

"Maybe they needed this experience to solve it, not to rely that it won't happen.

"Again, we will be ready, whatever the fixture is, but it is so far away, we have so many games until 23 December that at the moment I don't care."

"I rely on the club, that they get the Leeds game moved to the Saturday and then let's see."

  5. 'We will have to perform at our top level'published at 14:34 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on opponents AZ Alkmaar: "I watched their last game against Sparta Rotterdam. Yes, they won 1-0 but they could have been three or four-nil up by half-time.

"It just showed how good they are. We will have to perform at our top level to get this win. It would make it a little easier to have this win for the following three games, but it is really a case of taking it step by step, game by game and make sure we put in our best performance tomorrow."

  6. 'We are ready'published at 14:32 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix on their recent form: "We are really happy about that, about what we've done. We are ready for tomorrow."

On playing alongside Marc Guehi and Chris Richards: "I really enjoy it because it's like brothers. This is why we play well, good tactics but we like each other. It’s good to play with them."

On Palace's schedule: "I enjoy to play, the gaffer always says it's good to play always.

"To play games, this is why we play football. We want to play games, we are really happy and we are ready for that."

  7. Alkmaar 'one of top four teams in Netherlands'published at 14:26 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on the tough challenge posed by Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and whether this is a must-win fixture: "There is never a must win. Yes, we want to win, we will do everything to win the game, but Alkmaar is a very experienced team in European football. Maybe not for their age [of the club] but they always qualify for European football.

"Two years ago they played Aston Villa in the group stage. Three years ago they played in the semi-finals of the Conference League and lost against West Ham - two very tight games, losing 1-0 and 2-1. In both games [against West Ham] they had more possession and showed good finishing.

"It's a very good team, one of the top four teams in the Netherlands - Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord and Alkmaar."

  8. Riad 'won't get minutes', it's 'about wearing the shirt'published at 14:24 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner on Morocco defender Chadi Riad, who returned to training this week after 11 months out with a knee injury: “That’s the best news: yesterday he was allowed to train with the team, and he had yesterday’s and today’s session.

“He will be in the matchday squad tomorrow. We have one spot [in the squad] free. I spoke to him, and it’s just wearing the shirt and seeing the Selhurst atmosphere.

"He won’t get minutes, to be honest, but now it’s to build him up step by step, training with him and playing a few minutes with the Under-21s to get back into the game rhythm.

"It’s important he goes step by step, and he will get all the support."

  9. Wharton back but not 100%, Nketiah outpublished at 14:22 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has also confirmed that key midfielder Adam Wharton could be ready to return, but Eddie Nketiah and Rio Cardines are not available due to injury: “Adam [Wharton] is back.

"To be honest, I think he’s not 100% right now – his fever was too high – but it’s good now to be back in the rhythm, in the training sessions, and then let’s see how many minutes he gets tomorrow.”

  10. 'A big moment for Riad'published at 14:19 GMT

Crystal Palace v AZ (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner further explained the process Chadi Riad must go through before being ready to return to first-team action: "It’s important we don’t talk about him every day and expect he’ll be back in one week or two weeks.

"He was out more or less one-and-a-half years with a break in between when he trained with us.

“Of course, [this week] was a big moment for him. I had a few injuries in my career as well, and you’re always working in the gym with rehab and watching all the other players on the pitch.

“It gives you a boost when you can play football, it’s what you love to do and are here to do, and I’m 100% sure it will give him a boost, but now it’s about staying patient and going step by step.”

Some early team news from the Crystal Palace camp, as we wait to hear from manager Oliver Glasner, who will be joined by defender Maxence Lacroix at the news conference.

It has been announced that Chadi Riad will be part of the matchday squad for the first time since January, when the Morocco defender suffered an ACL injury.

Riad is not expected to make an instant return to first-team football but the club posted on X: "From injury to recovery, the journey has been tough but now back with the group. We're right behind you, Chadi and can't wait to see you back on the grass."

A reminder that no Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will be allowed to attend the Europa League match on Thursday evening because of safety concerns.

West Midlands Police raised concerns early in October about its ability to deal with any potential protests when the Israeli side play.

The Safety Advisory Group - the body responsible for issuing safety certificates for matches - informed Villa no travelling fans will be permitted at the match in Birmingham.

The move has been criticised by a number of politicians, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer describing it as "the wrong decision".

West Midlands Police said the upcoming game has been classified as "high risk" following a "thorough assessment".

On 20 October, Maccabi Tel Aviv said they will not accept any ticket allocation from Aston Villa should the decision to ban their supporters end up being overturned.

  14. 'We have players in the forward positions that are unbelievable'published at 14:13 GMT

Aston Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash on goals: "We started poorly and then we've been picking up good results away from home, at home, creating a lot of chances.

"Over the past few years you can see how many goals we've scored and all the chances we create - we are starting to show that now I think.

"It's football - it can be tough sometimes to put the ball in the back of the net but we just have to keep working on the training pitch to do it.

"We have players in the forward positions that are unbelievable and have got a lot of numbers over the last few seasons so there's no doubt, and if I can add in - even better."

  15. 'I'm a player that wants to get better every day'published at 14:10 GMT

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash on his emotions: "Over the past few years it's something I've been working on.

"I've had chats with the manager about controlling emotions - in big games you have to do that because football isn't always about being a good player, you have to be really strong-minded and you have to be mentally really good.

"We're all human, we all have feelings. Sometimes you read criticism and our job is just to focus on the pitch and demand in ourselves every day to get better. Everyone has opinions and whatever the opinion is good or bad you have to take it on the chin and you have to try and get better and be good.

"I'm obviously delighted playing well, as I said you can't be too comfortable. I'm a player that wants to get better every day, all the time. I want to achieve goals with the club. I want to try and do the best I can."

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash on his new deal: "It's been one of my goals to try and be consistent with performances over the last however many years I’ve been a footballer.

"I am really delighted to have committed my future here. I feel at home here. I wouldn't say I'm comfortable because you can never be too comfortable in football, you always have goals and objectives you want to achieve.

"I'm really delighted with the path were on and hopefully we can continue to be really successful."

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on what the side miss about Youri Tielemans when the midfielder isn't available: "His qualities. His skills. How he can help us play in combinations and to play and dominate with possession.

"He is a player that others feel comfortable with. Of course he has been very important last year, two years ago and this year he started fantastic but he got injured and now he is coming back again.

"He is very important to how we play and he helps us with his qualities."

  19. 'We are being demanding, individually and collectively'published at 13:59 GMT

Aston Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv (Thu, 20:00 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on what it is like being favourites in many of these fixtures: "It is difficult to say who is the favourite. To win this competition is very difficult and so is winning one team. Of course our wishes are to win this competition but we have to focus in the process we are doing.

"We have to focus each match and respect the competition.

"We lost at Go Ahead Eagles three weeks ago and they showed us how we can lose matches if we are not respecting 100% and focussed 100%. If we don't respect the team and the competition we are not going to win.

"Mentally, how we face every moment we are playing in the Europa League or Premier League or any other competition. We have reacted to our poor start to the season. We are keeping consistency but not enough and that is an example.

"This is the circumstance sometimes if we are not respecting every team. This is a lesson. In this process, we are being demanding, individually and collectively like we are in the last years.

"Every day it is important how we are in training and then we are going to show tomorrow. Tomorrow is a test of how we will respond to losing the last match in the competition."

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on John McGinn's new contract: "In those three years we have been together he has shown us and me how he is leading the team in all moments.

"The most important thing is how he is responding on the field and on the field he is responding very well.

"He can play as a midfielder, as a winger and his commitment to Aston Villa is a huge commitment. Before I arrived here and since I arrived, he has shown me for the next years he is going to be an important player for us."
