It's madness that people are surprised Grealish said he thought he should be picked. Us Brits much prefer to see players being 'humble', when confidence in their ability is a large part of what got them to where they are.

  4. 'I want to see, feel and figure out what is useful for football'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 9 October

Speaking on Instagram,, external Jurgen Klopp said: "I want to share the experiences I have collected over the years.

"We all know there are more successful managers out there but in my career I have fought for promotion, fought for titles and I have fought for trophies.

"Sometimes we failed, sometimes we succeeded and dealing with that is not easy, but it is possible.

"Then I want to learn again because when you are in the job and you have to play every three days you barely have the time.

"I want to see, feel and figure out what is useful for football, developing football a little bit as well."

I can't believe what I'm reading from Nick (11:52)! Cole Palmer has more goal involvements than any other player since the start of the last Premier League season. Even Haaland has days where he doesn't score. Show some respect to Palmer. What a player!

I've always enjoyed watching Grealish play when he's on his game. But the problem is that to get the best out of him you need to give him the freedom to roam. But that pretty much means that you're going to have to have two defensive midfielders to sit whilst he does. That's why he struggles to get in Pep's team and why I'd have left him at home as well.

Barcelona are widely recognised as the best team in the world after appearing in five of the past six Women's Champions League finals, winning three - including the past two.

The Catalan side's squad includes two-time Women's Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas and current holder Aitana Bonmati.

"I would say they are the best team in the world, especially over the period of the last four or five years," said Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor.

"Barcelona have really dominated in this last three-year period. In terms of that taking the pressure off us, not at all. We've worked tremendously hard to be here.

"The cream always rises to the top. We want to see the best players on the best stage and this is what it is."

Former England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain: "It'll be really tough. Barcelona are a fantastic side, they're absolutely stacked with talent.

"They scored eight at the weekend - but if we're looking for a positive, they did concede the first goal!

"They've got Keira Walsh and Ellie Roebuck coming back to Manchester City so hopefully it'll be a fun-filled night."

Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood says her club "belong" in the Women's Champions League and winning the competition would be the "pinnacle".

The Group D match on Wednesday will be City's first in the Women's Champions League since falling to a 4-2 quarter-final aggregate loss to Spanish giants Barcelona in March 2021.

Greenwood, who won the tournament with Lyon in 2020, said: "It's the pinnacle to win the Champions League. To win this competition is another level.

"It's exciting. I'm looking forward to it. We belong here. We’ve missed out and been frustrated by that."

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says his side will go "full throttle" in the Women's Champions League when they begin their campaign on Wednesday.

The fixture is Arsenal's first of four in the space of 12 days, with games against Chelsea, Valerenga and West Ham to follow in quick succession.

When asked where the European competition ranks in his priorities, Eidevall said: "For me, the Champions League is very special. We are in four competitions, but the Champions League and the league will always be very special to me and to the team.

"Right now we are in a situation where we need to go full throttle in both of them."

Arsenal are back in the group stages of the competition after missing out on qualification last season, while Bayern Munich failed to make it out of the group in 2023-24.

The sides last met in the competition in 2023 when the Gunners turned around their first-leg defeat to reach the semi-finals.

Bayern Munich v Arsenal (17:45 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain: "Arsenal haven't had the best of starts this season. They drew 0-0 with Everton at the weekend. Everton haven't had a very good start either so you’d have expected Arsenal to win that quite comfortably.

"If you look at their squad, they’ve got phenomenal talent. They’ve got lots of goal scorers, they just haven’t been hitting the back of the net. We'll have to hope today's the day it finally clicks for them, and they can get a result against a tough Bayern Munich team."

Arsenal's Switzerland midfielder Lia Walti said the squad are itching to be competing in Europe once again.

"The Champions League is a competition we all want to win," she said before Wednesday's match against Bayern Munich.

"It’s the biggest stage. I believe we belong there and we have the quality to be competing to win the trophy with the team we have.

"Why not this season? Why not have a good start tomorrow against Bayern Munich which is probably going to be the toughest team in the group. I’m just glad for the team to be back on that stage.

"It’s what we want. That was the most painful thing last year to watch. We know we have the quality to compete with these teams.

"We are aiming for first place in this group and think this team is ready."

Forget Grealish, the interesting player to watch now is Foden. He reminds me of Steven Gerrard, a world class player for his club but has never translated that to England. If Carsley can get the best out of him then Foden, Palmer and Gordon is a trio that could destroy any defence in world football, and that's before you add Rice and Bellingham behind them and Kane ahead of them.

Some of the reaction to Grealish is a bit harsh. He has simply suggested he could have offered something in the Euros, and he does give something different. He is stifled under Pep at City - I'd love to see him go somewhere he was the star player again with a bit of freedom. He's very much this generation's Gazza.
