In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Manchester City and England winger Jack Grealish said the birth of his daughter last week was "the best moment of my life".

In an "unbelievable 24 hours", Grealish had to leave training and take a train to London on Friday morning to be present for the birth, before flying to Newcastle - arriving after midnight - and starting for City in the Premier League at midday on Saturday.

"I don't really know how to explain it," said the 29-year-old. "You know you feel so many good moments in your life but that just tops everything."

  4. Man Utd still to clarify Ten Hag's positionpublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 9 October

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester United's board meeting in London broke up last night with still no clarity over Erik ten Hag's position as manager.

Given Ten Hag and his non-international players have taken some time off at the start of the current break, there is no urgency, and United did stress that Tuesday's meeting was pre-arranged.

Nevertheless, given all the talk, it would be a surprise if there was no confirmation of what is happening.

United's next game is against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday, 19 October.

"I feel positive we fought as a team and we created chances and I know we can cause them problems in the away leg.

"We stuck to the game plan and defensively I thought we were solid. Playing these teams is only going to benefit us. We know how good we can be."

Lucy Bronze playing for Chelsea against Real Madrid in the Women's Champions LeagueImage source, PA Media

Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze says their Women's Champions League victory over Real Madrid is a good start but "playing like that, we won't win the competition".

The England international has won five European titles with former clubs Lyon and Barcelona and despite Chelsea winning 3-2 at Stamford Bridge in their opening group match on Tuesday, they gave Real opportunities to come back into the game.

"We gave up goals easily," said Bronze. "We were the better team on the night, we possessed the ball in spells really well and our goals were really well taken - but we should have put them to bed early on when we were 3-1 up in the second half.

"We were playing quite well so we could have scored another and not let them back into the game. In the Champions League, when you let a team back in, they can punish you."

Bronze was part of the Barcelona squad who suffered defeat by Chelsea in the first leg of last season's semi-finals but the Spanish club recovered to reach the final and win back-to-back titles.

"Both playing for and against Chelsea, I know there is the talent and the competitiveness to win the Champions League [in the squad]," the 32-year-old added

"This team has beaten the best teams in Europe in Barcelona and Lyon, and I think this year we are going to have improved on last year.

"We are poised to push on, we need to improve a lot on tonight but we are in a good position and I think by the end of the season we will be in a really good place."

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly agreed to join Red Bull as their new global head of soccer.

The German has been linked with several vacancies since leaving the Reds at the end of last season.

According to Bild and Sky Sports Germany, he has signed a long-term contract with Red Bull, to start from 1 January 2025.

In his role, it is suggested the 57-year-old will 'advise all Red Bull teams' on different areas of management, such as coaching, philosophies, player development and signing new players and managers.

The German would therefore likely be involved with German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and their Austrian sister club Red Bull Salzburg. The group also owns MLS outfit New York Red Bulls and Brazilian side Red Bull Bragantino.

Klopp was Liverpool manager for nine years, winning the Champions League in 2019 before taking the club to their first league title in 30 years in 2019-20.

There has been no official confirmation of the appointment.

  9. Begiristain set to leave Man City in summerpublished at 07:48 British Summer Time 9 October

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 60-year-old Spaniard joined City in 2012 and was instrumental in bringing Pep Guardiola to the club as manager four years later.

Begiristain was a former team-mate of Guardiola at Barcelona and with the Spain national side.

As Barca's director of football, he was influential in Guardiola being named manager in 2008 although he left the Catalan giants two years later.

He has been repeatedly praised by Guardiola for the work he has done behind the scenes with City's recruitment.

Sources told BBC Sport that this season will be his last at the club. The news comes as Guardiola enters the final months of his current contract.

  11. Man City accuse Premier League of 'misleading' clubspublished at 07:40 British Summer Time 9 October

    Dan Roan
    BBC sports editor

Manchester City have accused the Premier League of being "misleading" over the verdict in its landmark legal case on rules over commercial deals.

The champions have written to top-flight clubs criticising the league's summary of the panel’s ruling, saying it contains "several inaccuracies".

The letter, which was also sent to the league, and has been seen by the BBC, was sent by City’s general counsel Simon Cliff on Monday.

Both sides have claimed victory after the decision of an arbitration panel was published on Monday following a legal challenge by City against the league's associated party transaction (APT) rules.

City, who are owned by the Abu Dhabi-backed City Football Group, had some complaints upheld, with two aspects of the APT rules deemed unlawful by a tribunal.

They have claimed their legal action had "succeeded".

However, the Premier League also welcomed the tribunal's findings, saying it rejected the majority of Manchester City's challenges and "endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system".

    The Daily Telegraph

Before we bring you more Women's Champions League reaction, let's have a look at some of today's newspapers. Many feature Manchester City or Manchester United, or both, with the Telegraph, external reporting that City "have been accused by rivals of trying to run the Premier League themselves after they dismissed the league’s view on the verdict from the major tribunal between the two – and advised clubs to contact them rather than the league executive."

  13. 'I would like us to manage the game better'published at 07:29 British Summer Time 9 October

    Chelsea 3-2 Real Madrid

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has won the Women's Champions League three times - twice as a player and once as a manager with former club Lyon.

She was pleased to get off to a winning start in her first game in the competition as Chelsea boss but felt the postponement of Sunday's Women's Super League match against Manchester United impacted their preparation.

"We have to play with a lot of intensity," said the Frenchwoman. "I don't want to find excuses but maybe because we didn't play for 10 days, it's something that can help you understand why tonight we were a little bit down.

"We scored the two goals but the players were not working as hard as I wanted them to work on the pitch. When we had the ball we were just walking to get the ball which is not enough. If you want to possess the ball, you have to run a lot."

Bompastor also said she wanted her side to "manage the game more" after sloppiness let Real back into the game.

"When I say manage the game, it's not about slowing it down, but being smarter," she added.

"When you begin the game with two goals, it's good to keep that result. We conceded two goals where we maybe could have done better. We were a bit nervous about Madrid getting stronger. I would like us to manage the game better."

Celtic manager Elena Sadiku: "It was a great effort. The girls fought very, very well. I'm still disappointed, I feel like we should have defended the first goal much much better.

"I think we looked like the better side in the first 15 minutes but then they started to create chances and we weren't as brave with the ball.

"It's a great experience and I'm just proud of the effort. They fought really hard."

Kayleigh van Dooren’s clinical double for Dutch champions Twente ensured defeat for Celtic on their Women's Champions League debut in Hamilton.

A goal in either half from the Netherlands international made it a first loss of the season for Elena Sadiku’s side.

In their first game at new home, New Douglas Park, the Scottish champions started confidently but Twente's experience eventually showed on their 10th appearance in Europe's elite competition.

The visitors handled the early enthusiasm, energy and eagerness of Celtic well, before settling into their groove, exerting dominance and threatening the home goal.

The opener eventually came right before the break when a long ball lifted over Celtic's defence forced goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty to race from her goal, inviting Van Dooren to calmly lob the ball into the net.

They were then made to pay for misses by Murphy Agnew and Caitlin Hayes when Van Dooren crashed in a powerful second late on to kill the tie and leave Celtic wondering what might have been.

  16. Blues get European campaign off to winning startpublished at 07:09 British Summer Time 9 October

    Chelsea 3-2 Real Madrid

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea got off to a winning start in their Women's Champions League campaign with victory over Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Sonia Bompastor's side were in front within two minutes as Sjoeke Nusken's header took a heavy deflection off Sheila Garcia and bounced over the line.

The Blues doubled their lead within half an hour when Guro Reiten struck a perfectly-placed penalty past goalkeeper Misa after Nusken was clipped in the box.

That threatened to kill the game early on but Real Madrid fought back, pouncing on Chelsea's sloppy defending as Alba Redondo fired the ball past Zecira Musovic, called in as a replacement for goalkeeper Hannah Hampton minutes before kick-off.

Chelsea, semi-finalists in the competition in the past two seasons, regained control with Mayra Ramirez's looped header making it 3-1 just after half-time - but Real again came back as substitute Linda Caicedo fumbled in a second goal for the visitors.

It made for an anxious ending at Stamford Bridge despite Chelsea having been comfortable for most of the encounter but victory puts them second in Group B, level on three points with FC Twente who beat Celtic 2-0 in Tuesday's other fixture.
