A lethal second-half attacking display saw Walsall continue their strong start to the season with victory at Salford.

A quick-fire double after the break from Nathan Lowe and Charlie Lakin ensured the Saddlers’ fifth win in seven league games.

Walsall had the better of the opportunities in an open first half, with Harry Williams glancing his header just wide from a corner after seven minutes before Taylor Allen’s 25-yard strike was flicked over the bar.

A few minutes after Lakin had seen his shot saved by Jamie Jones, Walsall netted the opener as Connor Barrett squared the ball in from the right side to Lowe who fired the visitors into a 51st-minute lead.

The advantage was doubled six minutes later when Lowe turned provider, as he spun on the ball to find Lakin who picked his spot in the bottom corner.

Tommy Simkin made a couple of crucial saves to preserve Walsall’s clean sheet, first flicking Hakeeb Adelakun’s effort wide before tipping Luke Garbutt’s free-kick over.
