  2. The Conte factor at Napolipublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 19 June

If Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis is "smelling blood", it may be because he has a proven winner on the touchline - Antonio Conte.

Last season’s Scudetto was the fifth Serie A title of Conte’s managerial career and his first with Napoli, making him the only coach to win the league with three different Italian clubs. Add a Premier League triumph with Chelsea to his resume, and it’s clear: Conte doesn’t rebuild, he wins.

And with him come the names. Romelu Lukaku joined permanently from Chelsea, while Kevin de Bruyne - fresh off a title-laden spell at Manchester City - reportedly took a pay cut to link up with Conte, enticed by the promise of trophies and intensity over luxury.

"Conte lives in the moment. He wants to win now," says Naples-based journalist Vincenzo Credendino. “He likes young players - but only when they’re already stars."

It explains why Napoli are targeting out-of-favour Premier League talent like Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho. These are players who’ve drifted from favour in England, but in Serie A’s slower, more tactical game, they can thrive.

While the Premier League leads in pressing, pace and physicality, Serie A remains a league of structure, experience and technical nuance - a platform where players like Lukaku and De Bruyne can dictate rather than chase.

Conte’s sides may train like machines, but the trade-off is silverware. As one executive put it: “Napoli offer the lifestyle, the tactics and now one of the best managers in the world. It’s not a holiday - but it’s a winning project.”

  3. Napoli eye discarded Premier League stars in new erapublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 19 June

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport Journalist

Fresh from a second Scudetto in three seasons and with Antonio Conte now at the helm, Napoli are capitalising on their stability and success by raiding the Premier League for big names deemed surplus elsewhere.

Scott McTominay became a cult hero after arriving from Manchester United, helping power Napoli to the title. Since then, the club have added Romelu Lukaku, Billy Gilmour, and most recently six-time Premier League winner Kevin de Bruyne.

Now, with confidence high and rivals like Juventus and Milan in transition, Napoli are pushing again - with Jack Grealish, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho all reportedly on their radar.

It marks a shift in approach under club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, whose reputation for financial caution is giving way to ambition, as Napoli look to turn discarded Premier League talent into title-winning gold.

Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams but there are still obstacles to overcome before the player gets his wish to join the Catalan club.

Spain international Williams, who has scored 31 times in 167 appearances for Bilbao, has attracted interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich this summer.

But the 22-year-old agreed terms over a six-year deal that will see him link up with close friend and international team-mate Lamine Yamal at the Nou Camp.

Williams asked Yamal to help him get to Barcelona after a season in which he helped Bilbao reach the Champions League and the Europa League semi-finals.

Barcelona explored a deal for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz earlier in the summer but were put off by the Reds' £80m valuation of the Colombia international.

Williams has a release clause of 62m euros (£53m) in his contract at San Mames, which Barcelona have indicated they are happy to activate.

Barca's sporting director Deco met with Williams and his representatives in Ibiza earlier this week, where a verbal agreement was reached.

While Barca have put a deal for Williams in place, the club remain under strict financial constraints.

Regarding Rashford, I think many fans see him, rightly or wrongly, as someone with a bit of an attitude problem who doesn't work hard enough to do justice to his undoubted talent. Perhaps clubs have a similar view and this is why he's struggling to find a move - can't justify the risk for the sort of money he's on.

Probably late to the party here, but The Edge is fine, at least according to Fake Bono in I’m Alan Partridge. “He is not Bono, he is rubbish.”

As a City fan, I was rather underwhelmed by our performance overall, but there were certainly a few glimpses of what could be a very strong team for the upcoming season when Rodri is back up to speed. We need to sort out the Foden, Cherki and Savinho situation as they all naturally gravitate to the same area of the pitch, which leaves holes a better team would benefit from.

Among the coaching staff to make the switch was Boehly's first managerial appointment Graham Potter, who took over from Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss.

  19. Man Utd may find themselves doing late deals this summerpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 19 June

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

This feels like a quiet period in the summer, with a lot of rumours about clubs being interested in players and buyers and sellers trying to establish what fees they could charge, or what they would have to pay.

For Manchester United, this might present a problem.

I was chatting to someone connected to the club earlier this week about Alejandro Garnacho, who has been told he can leave by head coach Ruben Amorim.

There is interest in the Argentina forward but no-one has stepped up to offer a fee United think is acceptable and the feeling is this might drag on.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrrell Malacia are all due to return after spending time away from Old Trafford on loan. All are on the kind of salaries that won't make it easy to move them on without United having some sort of financial involvement.

Players are due to return for training at the beginning of July, which should start to focus minds.

Then there is the first pre-season friendly with Leeds on 19 July followed by a three-match trip to the United States.

Ideally, United would have everything sorted by then. Don't be surprised if it drags on much longer.
