Good to see all these people who know Gyokeres personally are sharing their opinions of his character. Truth is most of us don’t know what’s actually going, and in a short career I reckon most of us would do anything we could to play in the premier league, particularly if you feel there’s an agreement being broken. If he gets his move and bangs in the goals, I think a strong culture can deal with any of the extras that come with him.

How many U2 puns were on the go last night because of Al-Hilal's Moroccan goalkeeper Bono? 'Beautiful Day' took top spot as soon as he saved Fede Valverde's penalty but looking at the band's back catalogue, there's got to be some outside contenders to describe the game. Although they didn't play on a Sunday, so that one's out.

Also, bonus points if you can name what programme the headline quote comes from.

  7. Who will play right-back for Real Madrid?published at 10:37 British Summer Time

There's a player waiting in the wings ready to come back from injury for Real Madrid who also plays right-back - and he just so happens to be club captain.

Dani Carvajal has been on the road to recovery for about eight months since he suffered a serious knee injury last October against Villarreal.

The 33-year-old Spanaird, who has made 428 appearances for Real across all competitions and has won a truckload of trophies with the club, has welcomed a new manager in Xabi Alonso and a young English pup defender who potentially wants to take his spot.

Before Trent Alexander-Arnold's signing was confirmed, Carvajal said he didn't fear any competition and the pair will just be team-mates.

Well, there are some fake quotes doing the rounds, I can tell you that much. But Xabi Alonso, taking charge of Real Madrid for the very first time, didn't give anything away about how he felt Trent Alexander-Arnold performed on his debut.

He did, however, tell Channel 5 the first half against Al-Hilal was not as good as the second.

"Every game we need to take positives and learn on what we can improve. Every game will give us lessons to keep improving," said Alonso.

  9. Who do Real Madrid play next in the Club World Cup?published at 10:24 British Summer Time

That's the debut out of the way for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with mixed results, so who do Real Madrid face next in Group H in the Club World Cup?

It's Mexican side Pachuca, who were beaten 2-1 by RB Salzburg in their opening game yesterday. That match takes place on Sunday at 20:00 BST in Charlotte, North Carolina

Real then face Austrian club Salzburg in their final group game at the bleary-eyed time of 02:00 on Friday, 27 June in Philadelphia.

When Trent Alexander-Arnold was replaced, he had played more crosses (five), entered the final third of the pitch (12) and had more passes in the final third of the pitch (16) than any of his Real Madrid team-mates.

Only one Real player had more touches than his 56 at that stage. However he also lost the ball more times than anyone else with 12.

At half-time his passing accuracy at 84% was only behind Vinicius Jr for Real players, but in the second half he did not misplace a pass.

  11. 'Incredible' to make Real Madrid debut - Alexander-Arnoldpublished at 10:13 British Summer Time

It's a brand new dawn for 'Trent' with the number 12 on his back. The defender was surrounded by reporters after the game against Al Hilal and said making his debut for Real Madrid was "incredible".

"It’s something almost every player dreams of so to be able to achieve it is huge for me," said Alexander-Arnold. "There’s some disappointment not to have won the game but it’s the mentality you need to have as a Real player is to want and expect to win every game you’ve played in."

He was then asked the million dollar question: How long have you been learning Spanish for? This was after the 26-year-old surprised the media (and Liverpool fans) by speaking the lingo during is official unveiling earlier this month. "A few months," was the reply.

  12. How did Alexander-Arnold get on during Real debut?published at 10:05 British Summer Time

    Real Madrid 1-1 Al-Hilal

    Emlyn Begley
    BBC Sport

Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of two debutants in Xavi Alonso's first game in charge of Real Madrid, along with ex-Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen.

The full-back got off to a bit of a shaky start but improved as the game went on. On three different occasions he was caught out of position as Al-Hilal broke down Real's right-hand side and created opportunities. One of those was when he lost the ball on the halfway line.

He was able to complete the simple passes but failed when he tried his more ambitious balls, including a crossfield effort that flew over Vinicius Jr's head.

Hassan Al Tambakti beat him in the air to head wide from a corner. But then things seemed to pick up for him - and he had a hand in their goal.

Alexander-Arnold cut out a pass from Salem Al Dawsari in the right-back position and passed to Gonzalo Garcia. Moments later Garcia capped off a swift counter-attack to give Madrid the lead. He also blocked an Al Dawsari shot.

The 26-year-old was playing further forward, in the attacking midfield position at times, picking out team-mates. And in one impressive move he got the ball in the centre circle and skipped past Kalidou Koulibaly in a good run forward before being tackled.

Moments later he had the ball back and swung a cross into the box, before being replaced in the 65th minute.

Gyokeres threatening to strike is embarrassing. He's the one who signed the contract and therefore agreed to be at Sporting; him wanting to leave is breaching that contract, which Sporting don't have to agree to. Why sign the contract in the first place if you don't actually agree with it?

    Luke, Somerset

Gyokeres is being a spoiled brat. How dare your club ask for a certain fee? Whatever this gentleman's agreement was, whether it is actually true or not, Gyokeres needs to get on with being a professional. Sure, ask for a move, but never force one and don't threaten strike action because you're being stroppy. You signed the contract, so at the end of the day, that's that.

Ability is not the issue for Gyokores, it’s his attitude that he’s showing during this transfer saga. Arteta hates big attitudes, and the last thing United need right now is another player who will throw their toys out of the pram.
