The tricky winger has burst into the box twice in the last two minutes but seen two shots well blocked.

County hanging on a little before half-time.

A terrible time for Motherwell to concede.

    Makenzie Kirk

Brilliant goal. Kirk controls Benjamin Kimpioka's pass in the box, swivels around and drives a low shot into the far corner.

It's the 20-year-old's fifth Premiership goal of the season.

Credit to Kimpioka too for making the run in behind to open up United.

  5. PENALTY to Celticpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2024

    Celtic 0-0 Motherwell

There's a collision between keeper Aston Oxborough and Hyunjun Yang, forcing the referee to point to the spot.

The Celtic winger looks like he just got there first but he may have been offside.

    VAR are checking. Penalty given.

United go very close to the opening goal. Kevin Holt's cross is met by Ryan Strain at the back stick, but his header is blocked.

There's another effort blocked and United claim for handball. After a frantic clearance from St Johnstone, the incident is checked and cleared.

On we go. United are finishing the half the stronger side.

Something you don't see very often - Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron hitting a ball straight out of the park.

That just about sums up the home side's display so far.

It was greeted with groans from an increasingly frustrated Dark Blues support.

    Kilmarnock 1-0 Aberdeen

Quiet spell at Rugby Park as Aberdeen continue to slowly grow into the match after the hosts completely dominated the first 20 minutes.

Aberdeen have yet to win a match in which they conceded first in the Premiership this season - drawing twice and losing three.

It will be a big ask for Jimmy Thelin's men to overcome that sorry streak at Kilmarnock.

A slightly dejected Yang trudges back towards the halfway line having failed to make the most of another run down the right wing.

With Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda the starting wide players of choice, the likes of Yang and Luis Palma have to take their opportunities when they come.

They haven't thus far in their Celtic careers and may find game time in even shorter supply if they continue to fail to impress.

Jim Goodwin's side started this looking firmly in control but failed to test Josh Rae in goal despite having a lot of the ball.

Gradually, the home side are beginning to create and have had the better chances to open the scoring, playing some nice football at times.

And again. St Johnstone fizz the ball up to their strikers, it's bounced to Graham Carey, who then slides through Makenzie Kirk.

The Saints forward is at quite a wide angle but smashes a low shot on target, which goalkeeper Jack Walton has to leap across to push away.

St Johnstone have started to play some really eye-catching football. They're getting through the United midfield with ease, but it's the final pass that's letting them down.

Drey Wright is freed down the right of the box, but he can't pick out a team-mate.

A nice backheel from Tawanda Maswanhise sets up Tom Sparrow, whose shot is deflected behind for a corner.

Nothing comes of the resulting set piece, but Celtic race up the other end with Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda.

The shot from the latter is smacked into the air by Aston Oxborough, who collides with his defender as they scramble the ball off the line!

A bit of a lull descends on Celtic Park and should the stalemate continue to the break and beyond, Celtic have quite the list of reinforcements if manager Brendan Rodgers opts to call for the cavalry.

Arguably their player of the season so far, Nicolas Kuhn, is back available today, sitting alongside Kyogo, Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan.
