Bristol Rovers claimed their first win under Inigo Calderon with a vital victory over fellow League One strugglers Cambridge.
The visitors grabbed the decisive goal after 26 minutes when Scott Sinclair's deep cross from the left was nodded in at the back post by Luke Thomas.
The match was held up for five minutes as injured referee Sam Mulhall was replaced by assistant Graham Horwood.
Josh Stokes twice shot off target for the hosts before half-time, and also fired into the side netting 10 minutes after the break.
Just after the hour mark Liam Bennett played in Elias Kachunga, only for the Cambridge man to shoot well off target.
It seemed like substitute Isaac Hutchinson had sealed it for Rovers 20 minutes from time, only for stand-in assistant referee Andrew Humphries to belatedly flag for an offside.
Stokes ran clear in the 90th minute but fired a huge chance to equalise wide, before a clash three minutes later resulted in U's captain Michael Morrison being sent off for a second yellow card.
