Robin: Ten Hag is pathetic and seriously needs to look himself in the mirror. Here’s why -

    1. To be a great leader you need empathy and authenticity, he lacks both.
    2. Professionals want feedback, do we all think Pep, Klopp, Arteta, Slot etc do not give feedback? Of course they do, I imagine with humility, purpose, drive and a shared vision.
    3. He claimed ownership over every win yet pushed every defeat onto the team.
    4. It’s clear his hierarchical outdated approach to leadership is why he failed. He will fail wherever he goes until he corrects this. But he will blame everyone else for his failings until he does.
  2. De Bruyne has to decide his future - Guardiolapublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

Kevin De Bruyne must decide his own future beyond this season, says Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

City captain De Bruyne has had an injury-hit campaign and his contract at the Etihad Stadium will expire at the end of this season.

Since his arrival from Wolfsburg a decade ago, De Bruyne has scored 105 goals in 409 matches for City in all competitions, as well as winning 16 major honours that include a Champions League and six Premier League crowns.

Guardiola said: "Nothing is going to change about that. Of course we know each other quite well and we are quite honest with that. I think in that situation he has to decide, that is the most important thing.

"He's completely honest with himself, to decide what he feels and what he can do in the next period of his life. He's 34 in the summer and he has to decide, like what happened with David Silva for example."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said the club will need to sign players this summer while not allowing too many departures.

This summer, City compete in the new-look FIFA Club World Cup, taking place between 14 June and 13 July.

The new Premier League season is set to start on 16 August, 34 days after the Club World Cup ends.

"The club has to sign players but at the same time the club has to keep the players we have as much as possible," he said.

"Because with the (Club) World Cup and then immediately (next) season, it will be even tougher next season. We need a little bit bigger squad next year."

Ten Hag may have a point about modern players - psychologists have studied the change in parenting styles over the last few decades from a more authoritarian approach, with strict discipline and high expectations, towards a more child-centered style that emphasizes warmth and fewer hard boundaries. Modern players won't respond well to old school hairdryer treatment etc because it's so alien to anything they've experienced previously. Managers need to adjust accordingly and be more emotionally intelligent to get the best from young players.

Here’s an idea - stop reading the comments on social media. The only opinions that should matter to a player are those of his teammates, manager and the fans in the ground.

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has spoken out in support of Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, 62, was accused of racism following Galatasaray's match with Fenerbahce on Monday.

Drogba, who starred under Mourinho during both of his spells at Chelsea and also played for Galatasaray, called Mourinho his "dad" and questioned the accusations.

On X, Drogba posted "Dear Galatasaray. You know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey.

"We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it. Ive seen the recent comments about Jose Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you I have known Jose for xx years and he is not a racist and history (past and recent) is there to prove it.

"Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions and let’s win the league.

"How can my 'Dad' be a racist? Come on guys."

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believes striker Rasmus Hojlund has the potential to score goals consistently.

The Denmark international has not netted in any of his last 16 United appearances, but Amorim insists the forward is not getting enough service from his teammates, which has led to his goal drought.

"I think it's clear, we as a team, we are not helping Rasmus," said Amorim. "We don't create a lot of chances.

"I think Rasmus has a lot of potential. If we improve the way we play the game, he will have more opportunities to score. He came here very young and, when you are very young, to be the number nine and play all the time sometimes is hard.

"We have to look as Rasmus as a player: he has the pace, he has the technique, he scores some goals that are really hard to score. Sometimes he doesn't choose the better runs, sometimes he's so anxious to touch the ball because he passes long minutes without the ball and he moves away from the goal.

"We address that in training. He has the ability, he already showed that here, but I think it's more a team thing than a Rasmus thing."

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he still can't offer a comeback date for injury-plagued England duo Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.

Shaw (pictured) was closing in on a comeback but experienced a setback. He has not started a game for United in over a year.

The last of Mount's 13 appearances this season ended after 14 minutes of the Manchester derby win at the Etihad Stadium on 15 December.

Amorim says he doesn't know when either man will return - but that Mount is ahead of Shaw in his recovery.

  16. What we have done has not been in vain - Bonmatipublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    England v Spain (20.00 GMT)

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati says Spain's players "battled hard" during the Luis Rubiales case and it "has not been in vain".

Former Spanish football federation boss Rubiales was last week found guilty of sexual assault after kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent during the 2023 World Cup medal ceremony.

Players testified in court in support of Hermoso, after World Cup-winning manager Jorge Vilda was sacked by the federation as part of the incident.

Speaking before Spain's Women's Nations League match against England at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, Bonmati said she hopes speaking out about what happened can help lead to change in football and wider society.

"I hope that this case makes changes in our country, in our football, to respect us better as footballers. But it's also a global case," the Barcelona forward said.

"I don't want to only speak about footballers. I think this happens in other jobs. I hope this case helps anyone who is going through these things.

"I believe this case happened for a reason and makes us more respectable as women. It has been difficult but it makes us more champions.

"We didn't only win on the pitch but also off the pitch. We are continuously fighting for our rights and women's rights. We know we have to suffer a lot and that makes us stronger."

I'm hearing and reading a lot of things about England needing to improve. I think what comes with winning, which they have done in the past, obviously the massive Euros win at Wembley a few years ago and then a World Cup final is pretty impressive going - back to back major tournament finals.

Of course what comes with that is a long way to fall as well and I think with this England team, they are on a journey of transformation and Sarina Wiegman has alluded to that.

I think as long as they peak by the summer, whatever happens between now and then England fans need to see a performance improvement but they also need to not get impatient with it because these players have been through and are going through a lot. When a team is in transition they need to be patient with the fact that progress might just come in the summer in Switzerland.

  18. Are England ready for Euro 2025?published at 12:58 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February

    England v Spain (20.00 GMT)

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

With just five months to go until Euro 2025, the Nations League competition is the perfect preparation for England and Spain.

However, Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman has insisted she is "not concerned" by England's underwhelming form of late and is not looking too far ahead.

It is a message echoed by Chelsea captain Millie Bright - but she also admits there is "a lot of work to do".

She added: "We're aware of what we need to do. I think with each game, we just have to make sure we keep closing the gap and get closer to the levels we want to be."

Spain defender Laia Codina says it is "too early to think about the Euros" for them too, but knows both teams need to improve before July.

"We are playing big games now in the Nations League. It's a way to work for the Euros," she added. "Spain is in a good position but I also think a lot of other teams are in the same moment. It is going to be a tough tournament."

    England v Spain (20.00 GMT)

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

England won Euro 2022 and made it to a second successive major tournament final at the World Cup a year later. But it has not been plain sailing since.

They missed out on a place at the Olympic Games in 2024 and have won just two of their past six matches.

For Spain, their achievements on the pitch have been overshadowed by their challenges off it.

Former Spanish football federation boss Luis Rubiales was last week found guilty of sexual assault after kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her consent during the 2023 World Cup medal ceremony.

Players testified in court in support of Hermoso, after World Cup-winning coach Jorge Vilda was sacked by the federation as part of the incident.

But on the field Spain have enjoyed further success, winning the inaugural Nations League, although they were upset in the Olympic semi-finals by Brazil.
