Captain Ben Garrity scored twice as Port Vale opened their League Two campaign with an impressive away win against Salford.

Garrity struck in each half to earn the Valiants three points on the road against Karl Robinson’s Ammies as they look to bounce back to League One at the first time of asking.

After a cagey first period, Garrity opened the scoring in stoppage time when he turned home a Ronan Curtis corner which Salford failed to clear.

The hosts appeared shellshocked and they fell further behind in the 69th minute.

It again came from a Curtis corner and Garrity rose highest to meet his delivery and head the into the top right corner of the goal.

Salford, looking to bounce back from last season’s poor campaign which ended in a 20th place finish, failed to create many chances and never truly tested Connor Ripley in goal for Port Vale.
