For those Germany-bound, we asked for your wild and wonderful travel plans.

Motorhomes seem to be a popular choice...

Paddy: Four of us leave from Peebles in Wednesday evening in a motorhome for 12 days. We'll take the Eurotunnel and then a drive to near Dortmund to set up base. Counting down the final hours at work! A generation starved of this kind of football event. Still fancy progression from the groups but a respectable result on Friday night essential.

Anonymous: Flight to Amsterdam, then campervan to Germany with three sons.

Iain: Myself and two friends flying to Stuttgart on Thursday then train through to Munich on Friday on the week of my 31st birthday! Direct travel was £££.

Peter: Set off on 3 June in a motorhome. I have spent last few days in northern France and I'm just about to cross the border and stay tonight in Freiburg then on to Munich where apparently there's a game on Friday...

Mike: Flying Glasgow to Paris, then Eurostar to Brussels and finally across to Essen.

Gordon: Melbourne to Saigon to Frankfurt to Munich - and on the way back going via Helsinki. Going to be the first time aged 44 that I see Scotland in a major tournament. Been regretting not going to France for 26 years!

A brilliant atmosphere at Scotland's training base today for their first session since arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Around 1,000 local children cheering them on, music playing, a real party atmosphere. Which isn’t surprising really - no Scotland, no party after all!

Scotland might be here to spoil Germany’s opening day party, but the locals in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are waving saltires and the mayor of the town calls them "the team of our hearts".

We’ll see if they’re saying the same come Friday night.

Pascal Gross' stunner earned Germany victory over Greece

First up, Germany. They wrapped up their preparations for the Euros by beating Greece 2-1 in Monchengladbach.

Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross' 89th-minute goal saw Julian Nagelsmann's side come from behind after a lacklustre display.

The late win came four days after they played out an unconvincing 0-0 draw with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Hungary were in fine form in Debrecen and Switzerland fought back to draw.

Having lost to a last-minute goal in Ireland last time out, Hungary started brilliantly, albeit against under-strength Israeli visitors, and were 3-0 up to all but settle the game as a contest within 22 minutes.

Switzerland found themselves behind after just five minutes when Austria capitalised on loose possession and RB Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner ran through to finish past goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

However, Silvan Widmer got the Swiss back on level terms just over 20 minutes later in an otherwise uneventful affair as goalkeeper Heinz Lindner spilled Ruben Vargas' angled shot straight into the path of the Mainz right-back to tap in.

  9. 'Scotland won't be carried away by Friday'published at 11:57 British Summer Time 10 June

    Darren Jackson
Former Scotland striker on Scottish Football Podcast

There will be a calmness [in the squad] because they have players that play at the top level.

Callum McGregor at Celtic and the boys at Liverpool and Manchester United, they play big games every week.

I think they'll be working on things right from Monday, but not intense. It'll be a build up to the game to Friday.

It'll not be too intense to start with, but once Friday comes they'll definitely know their jobs.

Mbappe would be a good option off the bench, to be fair.

Not sure he starts over Shankland, Adams or Conway, right enough.

  13. Who are Germany's attacking options?published at 11:44 British Summer Time 10 June

It looks most likely that Kai Havertz will spearhead Germany's attack, having enjoyed an impressive season for Arsenal.

The 24-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last season.

He is, however, another player who started out as an attacking midfielder and has been converted into a centre-forward.

Borussia Dortmund's Niclas Fullkrug is Germany's only real out-and-out striker option. He was the top scorer in the Bundesliga in 2022-23 and scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, but time is running out for him already on the international stage.

He did not make his senior debut until 2022, is now 31 and would probably accept himself that he is a very good striker, but not a world-class one.

Then there is the dependable Thomas Muller - but he himself does not consider himself a striker, external - plus exciting talents like Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala to consider.

But they fall into the category of hugely talented forwards who provide flair and tempo to the team, not players to start in the centre of the attack.

The question of who leads the line for Germany at the European Championship is something that has the country's supporters split.

  14. Postpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 10 June

Looking ahead to Friday, the Scotland midfield will be facing the daunting prospect of coming up against a German midfield anchored by the one and only Toni Kroos.

Whoever starts in the Scots' forward line will face a similarly tough task, likely needing to break down a defence consisting of the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Joshua Kimmich.

But who will spearhead the Germany attack in Munich?

BBC Sport's Gary Rose has had a look at their options...

  19. 'Number nine spot still up for grabs'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 10 June

    Lawrence ShanklandImage source, SNS

It was great for Lawrence Shankland to get a goal on Friday just to give him that confidence boost, scoring at Hampden again for the first time in a while.

Obviously that number nine spot is still up for grabs, especially with Lyndon Dykes missing out now as well.

I thought Tommy Conway looked really lively when he came on and looks like he's going to offer something different.

He's a sort of nippy player we maybe don't have in the forward areas.
