  3. Robinson pleased to 'grind out' victorypublished at 17:44 BST

    FT: Falkirk 1-2 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson told BBC Scotland: "The game was sticky at the start, both teams after the international break and days off, looked rusty.

"But we came out really well in the second half and dominated the game. But for the goalkeeper, Scott Bain, who has made two terrific saves from Killian Phillips and Richard King, it could and should have been more.

"Then we concede a goal we should never concede and gives Falkirk a little bit of hope. We had to defend, and did it well when we needed to.

"We can be better than today in terms of the quality we can show. But we said grind out the result whatever way, and we did."

Robinson says the injury to Marcus Fraser is a "concering one". The ever-present defender was forced off with an ankle injury just before the break.

The win at Pittodrie before the international break was massive for Falkirk, but McGlynn said sides like St Mirren are the template for them as they aim to be a stable top-flight club after too long down the leagues. In a way they were taught a lesson about what it is to be a good side in the Premiership. Not in the sense they were outclassed, because they were very competitive. But how crucial it is to be robust from crosses, physical in midfield, and clinical up top. That latter one is perhaps the most concerning. Graham's header from a perfect McImage source, SNS
  4. Frustrating tale of two halves for Motherwellpublished at 17:42 BST

    FT: Dundee 1-1 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou tells BBC Scotland: "We play probably one if the best halves of my time here, then by far the worst one in the second half.

"We have everything under control. Then the entire team is completely sleeping on a set play. That's unacceptable because there was time to set up and do much better.

"Totally our own fault we don't have the win today. We didn't deserve it, although we had a few good chances, but so did they.

"We have to perform better. We have to take these moments and really look after them."

  5. 'The team picks itself' - Goodwinpublished at 17:39 BST

    Hibernian v Dundee United (17:45)

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin says his new deal at Tannadice shows the club are in a stable place.

"Delighted to commit my future to Dundee United," he tells Premier Sports.

"It’s good in terms of the stability it shows at the club.

"It’s also good for the new players we’ve signed in the summer, that I'm making the same commitment that they are.

"Very simple, straightforward team selection, and that’s what you want as a manager, when it pretty much picks itself."

  6. Gray hopes 'healthy competition' will help Hibspublished at 17:36 BST

    Hibernian v Dundee United (17:45)

Hibs head coach David Gray tells Premier Sports: “It certainly doesn’t feel like just the fourth league game of the season with the amount of games both sides have played already

“It will be a tough test.

"Jim [Goodwin] has put together a tough, physical side and I was impressed with them in Europe, too.

“If we want more nights like we had in Europe, we need to be strong again domestically this season.

“We’re in a good place now, and there’s healthy competition throughout the squad, hopefully that can push us forward now."

How many chances does Russell Martin need to get? It is clearly obvious he is out of his depth and cannot manage. It was doubtful before he got the position and now it is firmly confirmed that he is the wrong person for the job.

    Alex

Why did Rangers appointment a manager who turned Southampton into the worst team in Premier League history?

    Phil

I think Martin needs to be given more time. Can't just keep changing manager after a run of bad results. At some point we have to stick to someone and see it through to the bitter end.

    Jackie

Wasn't convinced Derek McInnes was the right man for the job but, with the players the Hearts have signed, we seem to be on the right path.

It was a shabby Rangers performance, but we took our chances, and that's a massive three points. In past seasons, we would have fallen here regardless, let's hope we can keep this going, and who knows how far we can rise? Far too early to talk about winning the league, but we have a solid foundation. Roll on the next game.

  8. 'Aberdeen don't do enough'published at 17:30 BST

    FT: Aberdeen 0-0 Livingston

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Livingston deserved a point. They were well organised, disciplined and effective on the counter.

Aberdeen don't do enough. They aren't creative enough and they don't look like they've got a player with the instinct to be in the right place at the right time.

It's concerning. No goals, one point, bottom of the table - the pressure is coming on very strongly.

Jimmy Thelin and the chairman need to be strong and be together, because if Motherwell come up and put them out of the cup, you can imagine the scenes.

It's doom and gloom at Pittodrie.

  9. United enjoy good Easter Road recordpublished at 17:28 BST

    Hibernian v Dundee United (19:45)

Dundee United have only lost two of their past 15 top-flight visits to Hibernian, winning five of those, although one of those defeats came in May - a very one-sided 3-1.

  10. Can Hibs find home comfort?published at 17:25 BST

    Hibernian v Dundee United (17:45)

Hibs have won a lot of plaudits for their European exploits, particularly their away displays against Midtjylland, Partizan Belgrade and Legia Warsaw.

Form at Easter Road has not been quite so good though.

Is today the day for a first home win of the season?

  11. Four Hibs changes, same again for Unitedpublished at 17:22 BST

    Hibernian v Dundee United (17:45)

Hibs head coach David Gray makes four changes to the side that drew 1-1 with St Mirren prior to the international break.

Defender Grant Hanley is back among the subs despite his heroics for Scotland in Denmark. Attackers Junior Hoilett and Thibault Klidje also drop to the bench, while midfielder Miguel Chaiwa is absent.

Warren O'Hora comes back in along with midfield duo Jamie McGrath and Josh Mulligan. Striker Kieron Bowie also starts for the hosts.

Jim Goodwin goes with the same starting XI that triumphed 2-0 in the Dundee derby.

  12. Mandron makes St Mirren’s daypublished at 17:20 BST

    FT: Falkirk 1-2 St Mirren

    Kenny Crawford
BBC Sport Scotland at the Falkirk Stadium

That’s St Mirren off the mark in terms of Premiership victories in season 2025-26, and Mikael Mandron’s fifth goal of the campaign proved to be the match-winner.

Brian Grahan might have made a strong pitch to start the next Bairns game by scoring late to give Falkirk hope, but the hosts fell short of completing a comeback.

They now wait until a week on Tuesday to face Hibernian, while St Mirren are in action sooner in a League Cup quarter-final against Kilmarnock.

  13. Hearts deliver statement win as Rangers reelpublished at 17:17 BST

    FT Rangers 0-2 Hearts

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Sport Scotland at Ibrox

The majority of conversation will focus on Rangers who are in absolute turmoil right now. This was a terrible afternoon for Russell Martin, there's no doubt.

However, what an incredible outcome for Hearts who showed, for long, long spells, a real maturity and tactical nous. They were excellent.

The home fans seem to have made their mind up on Martin going by the angry reaction inside this stadium. It's turned into a nightmare and the vast majority have undoubtedly turned on him.

Rangers are in a state of utter disarray right now.

Today’s result at Ibrox shows that Rangers appointed the wrong manager. Derek McInnes is Rangers through and through and knows the Scottish game. I can’t understand why he has never been given the opportunity.

    Jay

I said it after the first game of the season how worried I was about Russell Martin's appointment and how long a season it's going to be. Sadly, I've been proven correct and if he isn't sacked tonight or tomorrow, the crowds will start dropping and the players confidence will get even lower if that's possible. Lawrence Shankland should have been our first signing and not just because of today. He would have been a great signing and knows how to play in Scotland. Martin out please.

    Baz

Obviously buzzing with a rare old win at Ibrox, but it feels like it's been played on semi-pro difficulty. Rangers are seriously bad. So exciting to be a Hearts fan just now though!

  20. FULL-TIME Rangers 0-2 Heartspublished at 17:02 BST

Lawrence Shankland's double gives Heart of Midlothian their first victory over Rangers at Ibrox since 2014 and sends the visitors three points clear at the top of the Premiership.

Boos ring out around Ibrox as Russell Martin becomes the first Rangers boss to fail to win his first five league games since John Greig in 1978.

Hearts win at Ibrox for the first time since 2014 and beat Rangers for the first time in 19 meetings.

Worrying times for the Rangers head coach but delight for the visitors and it could have been worse if Tomas Bent Magnusson's late strike had not found the far post.
