Real Madrid started very well and you thought City were in big trouble. However they weathered the storm and grew into the game.
Pep Guardiola has got a few key tactical decisions spot on. John Stones in the six has given them security.
Then on the ball the full backs come into the midfield and make a barrier, so that when Madrid win it back they have to break that three before they get at the City defence.
The last one was playing Jack Grealish. Before he came off he was dragging Federico Valverde all over the place which allowed Bernardo Silva to drift in areas and drag Aurelian Tchouameni into wide areas where he didn't want to be.

Man City were excellent for 35 minutes but they have just come off the pace at the end of the half.
Real Madrid had a good bit of possession in the last ten minutes or so and were looking really threatening. Man City have to pick the tempo back up.

Manchester City versus Real Madrid will be just the fourth fixture in European Cup/UEFA Champions League history to played in four consecutive seasons, after Deportivo de La Coruña v Juventus (4 from 2000-01 to 2003-04), Chelsea v Liverpool (5 from 2004-05 to 2008-09), and Atlético de Madrid v Real Madrid (4 from 2013-14 to 2016-17).
This will be the 13th time Manchester City have faced Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League (W4 D5 L3). Of opponents Real Madrid have played against 5+ times in their European Cup/Champions League history, their win percentage of 25% against the Citizens is their lowest against any opponent.
