Rangers head coach Russell Martin hopes to build on the goalless draw with Celtic and benefit from extra time on the training pitch during the international window.

"The windows shut, so the squad's settled, we have new signings and we have a squad we are really happy with - good depth, good options, good versatility and back off a performance full of aggression, loads of togetherness and loads of fight and now we have to add the other bits today," he tells BBC Scotland.

Asked how he can appease his critics among the fans, Martin adds: "We just have to win football matches - as simple as that. We are trying to build something that is sustainable and helps us over a period of time at a club that demands instance success - and today is a good day to start.

"We have to be competing for the title this year. It is difficult test today. They [Hearts] have started this season well, but we want to play the way we want to play and the crowd can help us do that."

Falkirk manager John McGlynn told BBC Scotland: "It's been a bit stop-start at the moment with the international break and League Cup games.

"But we're happy to be here and happy with the team but they know they need to be on their toes with the new players we've brought in.

"We have a lot of injuries as well, but we've got a good squad. St Mirren are a good side, they've had tough fixtures. Stephen Robinson's done an amazing job there.

"They are the template for ourselves, they went up in 2018 and been there ever since. It would be great for us to be able to do that, that's the target."

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson reflected on reaching his 400th game as a manager.

"It surprised me to be honest," he told BBC Scotland.

"I think you look at stuff like that when you finish your career, and hopefully I'm far from finished. It's a tribute to the staff and players I've worked with.

"We've only lost one game in 15, which makes it easier [to pick the same team]. We've had a tough start to the season, playing the top three from last year.

"It's about turning those draws now into wins."

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou tells BBC Scotland: "We have a few players unavailable, they've picked up some injuries during the last couple of weeks. We're still assessing them.

"Eli [Just] arrived yesterday after a long journey and playing many minutes. That gives an opportunity to some of the guys who have been working hard to get up to speed.

"We don't need to keep a clean sheet to win, but it'll make it easier. For a long time we were very hard to score against, then there were a few games we were a bit too open in.

"That's what we've been working on, to adjust and sharpen up. I hope it will result in a clean sheet today."

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley tells BBC Scotland: "It's been a long couple of weeks, but we've spent that time in a productive manner.

"We've tried to put right some of the wrongs from the Dundee United game. Let's hope we see some improvements in today's game.

"Tony Yogane gives us some really exciting elimination ability. Fin Robertson gives us good legs and good energy."

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Scotland: "Wee Macaulay Tait comes back in, it's a team I feel is more than capable of getting something from the game.

"My thoughts are fairly simplistic - try to get the three points. Come up and have a go. We want to approach this season a bit more positively than previous seasons.

"It's not always possible, but we're going to have a go and stick to our game plan, game model, philosophy - all these new buzzwords.

"I don't really look at where the opposition are in the league. Aberdeen spent a lot of money. The boy Karlsson looks like a player."

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "Football is still a team sport, so the team need to give Jesper (Karlsson) and Kevin (Nisbet) opportunities to do their jobs.

"When the situations arise, they have really good quality.

"We have to manage them in a good way and keep building robustness, but I think they can play an important role today.

"We have really good players, but now we have to take steps to be more intense as a team.

"The pressure is always there. The fans have been really exceptional.

"Livingston are a good team, clear in the way they attack the box. For us, we have to focus on our performance."

Derek McInnes is asked about the decision to drop Scotland goalkeeper Zander Clark in favour of new signing Alexander Schwolow, formerly of Union Berlin.

"It is always tough when you change your goalkeeper and it's not something managers want to do," the Hearts head coach tells BBC Scotland.

"We made a decision to bring another goalkeeper in - Ryan Fulton's injury wasn't ideal and Craig Gordon is still not up to full speed.

"We brought Alexander in, he's an experienced keeper, knows his way about big stadiums and important games and hopefully we can see that influence on the team today."

Derek McInnes is dismissing Hearts' poor record at Ibrox.

"Any time you bring a team here, you are asked about your team having that belief," the head coach tells BBC Scotland.

"There's lots of ways you can do it. You can do it with form clearly through individual, confident players and how you train during the week.

"We have got to act like a team who are used to winning here. We have got to act like a team that are used to winning week in, week out.

"Today is going to be difficult, there's no doubt about it, but I do expect us to be a difficult opponent for any team, including Rangers here at Ibrox. I expect it to be a tight game."

Russell Martin was again asked about the absence of Nicolas Raskin despite the midfielder scoring for Belgium in midweek.

The Rangers head coach said on Friday that the situation had been "resolved" but that Raskin had to regain the trust of his team-mates.

Asked to clarify the issue for the club's fans, Martin tells BBC Scotland: "I am in the building every day. We see things every single day. The supporters only see the end product on the pitch. It is very difficult and different.

"We have to sort things inside. It is our issue and we're dealing with it.

"I've been asked so many questions on it, but today is about the team on the pitch."

Rangers carry a better threat now than they did two or three weeks ago.

Hearts have started the season well without being brilliant. They've had a massive recruitment drive in the summer and have some real quality players.

BBC Sportsound pundit Tom English says Russell Martin needs to sort out what's going on with Nico Raskin, with the Belgian midfielder missing from the squad despite the manager saying the situation has been "resolved".

Hearts have not left Ibrox with three points since a win in the Scottish Championship in 2014 and have not tasted victory at all over Rangers since early 2020.

However, manager Derek McInnes knows a thing or two about ending poor records against Rangers.

After more than a quarter of a century without an Aberdeen win in Glasgow, McInnes led the Dons to three wins at Ibrox and also defeated Rangers in a League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Motherwell have drawn six of their nine games played in all competitions and, like their hosts, are still seeking their first Premiership win of the season. However, Fir Park boss Jens Berthel-Askou has got the visitors playing an exciting brand of football.

Such has been the turnover in players only four of the 22 that started this fixture in May are doing the same today.

Unusually for a team that have lost their opening three league games – and haven’t scored a goal – Aberdeen are taking some real positivity in to this afternoon’s visit of Livingston.

Why I hear you ask? Well a trio of eye catching deadline day signings – Swedish star Jesper Karlsson and Scotland internationals Kevin Nisbet and Stuart Armstrong have seen optimism soar among the Red Army.

But if any team is equipped to spoil a party it is Livingston.

David Martindale’s side have made a solid start to life back in the top division and they will feel they can plunder something positive in the Granite City.
