    Coventry

Coventry boss Mark Robins speaking to Sky Sports: "For the most part we defended really well when we needed to but also played some good football when we could. We worked hard because they worked hard out of possession. I always want us to be brave in possession. We went a bit too long too soon but then settled down into some decent rhythm.

"That's what we have to take out of this game, we have to be more ruthless.

"We deserved something out of that game and we should have gone on and won it."

Brennan Johnson scored a 93rd-minute winner as two late goals helped Tottenham come from behind to sink Championship side Coventry City in the Carabao Cup third round.

Tottenham struggled for large periods and fell behind when Brandon Thomas-Asante gave the hosts a deserved lead, sweeping in Norman Bassette's low cross in the 63rd minute.

But Djed Spence equalised for the Premier League outfit in the 88th minute after being put through by Dejan Kulusevski.

Five minutes later, Johnson completed the turnaround with a composed finish after a fine through-ball from Rodrigo Bentancur.

Victory ended Spurs’ two-match losing run and ensured the north London club would be in next Wednesday’s last 16 draw.

Brighton's impressive start to the season continued after progressing to the Carabao Cup fourth round following a battling win over Wolves.

Victory means Fabian Hurzeler is still undefeated in his six games as Brighton boss, winning four.

Carlos Baleba fired the Seagulls into the lead in the 14th minute with a sublime left-footed strike into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Brighton doubled their lead 17 minutes later after Simon Adingra cut in from the left, skipped beyond two defenders and powered a shot beyond Wolves keeper Jose Sa.

Gary O'Neil's Wolves responded just before half-time as Matt Doherty's cut back was guided past Jason Steele by Goncalo Guedes.

Turkish full-back Ferdi Kadioglu, who signed from Fenerbahce in the summer, reinstated the Seagulls' two-goal lead with his first goal for the club in the 85th minute.

Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle smashed in a strike from the edge of the box in stoppage time to make it a nervy ending for Brighton, but they were able to hold on to the victory.

  5. 'We had to hang in there'published at 22:24 British Summer Time 18 September

    FT: Coventry 1-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tough game. Credit to Coventry, I thought they were outstanding. They really took it to us. We had to just hang in there somehow and we did. In the end credit to the lads. It was a typical cup tie."

On the performance: "We weren't fluent or cohesive. When you make a lot of changes, that's on me. We weren't as fluent performance-wise. Some of that is down to Coventry, they were excellent and played with high-energy. We had to hang in there for as long as we could In the end I was pleased both for Djed [Spence] and Brennan [Johnson]. They have come on and made the difference for us and made a difference in the game."

On what Brennan Johnson's goal will do for his confidence: "Hopefully a great deal. He's a fantastic young man, a great player. I have a lot of time for him because he works so hard on his game every day. Like all attacking players there is always a spotlight on them if things aren't working out. It's part of his journey and if he can come out of the other side of this and show who he can be he will benefit greatly from it. He took his goal well tonight and he made a good impact."

On how significant tonight's result is for Spurs: "I have consistently said there is no easy or quick fix to where we want to get to and one result doesn't change that. Tonight we showed what we have been missing the first four games, a little bit of spirit to fight our way and find a way to win a game of football. We had it last year. This year our performances have been good but we have lacked a little bit of an edge and hopefully tonight gives the boys a little bit of belief."

Credit to Spurs for never giving up and Djed Spence giving the ultimate professional performance despite being the outcast! This isn’t the Spurs that supporters expect though, Postecoglu to go this month.

Djed Spence looked really good. He never gave up on the ball. A bit of bite. That's what Spurs need.

  7. 'We were under some real pressure'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 18 September

    FT: Coventry 1-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalscorer Brennan Johnson speaking to Sky Sports: "It was really difficult. There wasn't one part of us that underestimated Coventry. We have played them a few times and know they play good football. At times we let them off too easy and gave them too many chances. We were under some real pressure but we will always keep going."

On chaos in the game: "That has happened too many times. It has been a bit too chaotic. We gave the ball away too many times, we weren't too much of a threat. For most of the game we didn't play forward enough. The goals came from quick play and that's what we want to do more often."

On his goal: "It was really nice. It's a great feeling to score especially so late. To get in the next round is really important. Penalties is a toss of a coin so getting the goal really late was very beneficial."

  8. 'Very, very fortunate'published at 22:08 British Summer Time 18 September

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports: "Tottenham got away with one, they were very, very fortunate tonight."

This is only the third round of the Carabao Cup, but that could be a massive moment for Ange Postecoglou. As you could see in the messages that were coming from you, the feeling was turning negative against the Spurs boss, with him on the verge of a third successive loss in all competitions.

A win is a win, and Tottenham, rather fortunately, survive and progress. A turning point in Postecoglou's spell in charge?

Championship side Coventry City were on course for another amazing night in a cup competition after Brandon Thomas-Asante's 63rd minute goal, but Tottenham get out of jail late on with an 87th-minute equaliser from Djed Spence followed by a 92nd minute winner from Brennan Johnson.

It's so unnecessary. You know Spurs are good at being able to press and nick the ball. The ball was played in brilliantly and it looks like Coventry are going to go down after playing so well in this game.

Tottenham have surely snatched it. They were 1-0 down at the 87-minute mark, now five minutes later they are 2-1 up.

Spurs have been outplayed most of the night, but the Premier League class has finally been seen.

A ball is played through, Brennan Johnson races on to it and produces a perfect lifted finish past Ben Wilson. Coventry heartbroken, Spurs delighted.

Djed Spence has saved Tottenham. Three substitutes link up, James Maddison plays it around the corner, Dejan Kulusevski knocks a pass through and Djed Spence, showing strength to not be put off by a Coventry defender shoulder-barging him, gets to the ball first to slide an equaliser past Ben Wilson.

Ange to be the first Premier League managerial casualty this season.

    James

I was all for giving Ange time, but his comments about always winning in his second year just haven't sat well at all with me. Can't help but think Thomas Tuchel is still available.

Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski looks to thread the needle and find Brennan Johnson in a packed Coventry penalty area, but the hosts manage to launch it to safety.

Coventry, after their cup exploits took them to Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final last year, are 10 minutes away from another magnificent night.
