No VAR today, so the on-field decisions won't be changed.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:03 British Summer Time 18 September

    Coventry 0-0 Tottenham

Almost a goal for the Championship side inside the opening 70 seconds. Back-up Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster gets himself into trouble with a loose pass out from goal, it falls to Jack Rudoni, who gets a sweet connection on his 25-yard strike at goal.

But Forster redeems himself with an excellent save at full stretch diving low to his left to push it away.

    Brighton 0-0 Wolves

Brighton are looking a threat. A give and go ends with Simon Adingra fizzing a low cross into the penalty area from the left but Wolves centre-half Alfie Pond, who has made an encouraging start on his big day, is at the near post and able to eliminate the danger.

  8. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 18 September

    Brighton 0-0 Wolves

A first shot of the match and it is straight at Jose Sa, who will be keen to impress after losing his Wolves first-team spot to Sam Johnstone.

Again Yankuba Minteh is heavily involved in the build-up, he slid a well-weighted pass through to Evan Ferguson and he hit a snap shot with his first touch, but Sa was well placed to deal with it.

  9. Postpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 18 September

    Brighton 0-0 Wolves

A vital interception from Alfie Pond, on his first start for Wolves in the middle of their defence as he's well placed to stop Brighton getting into the penalty area.

  10. Postpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 18 September

    Brighton 0-0 Wolves

A bright start for Brighton. Yankuba Minteh, hogging the right touchline for the hosts, is good enough to sprint at the away defence, he gets into the penalty area, but Matt Doherty just about does enough to ensure he doesn't get any further and also doesn't get a penalty.

James Maddison was with Coventry until the end of the 2015-16 season

James Maddison is among the substitutes for Tottenham and will be looking to feature against his former side, after he came through Coventry City's academy.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins said: "There’s been some brilliant players come through the academy and James Maddison is right up there as one of the best if not, the best. Where he is now with his career and his personality is infectious and he loves playing football, he’s a top player.

"He’s a great technician and he can score goals and he’s making appearances for England now and hopefully he can make more in the future.

"When he was coming through the ranks here, everyone recognised the quality we had. The type of players Tottenham have got, they are good all over the pitch, regardless of who plays.”

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has defended his belief of “always winning things” in a second year at a club.

Following the 1-0 home defeat by Arsenal, the former Celtic boss was asked about his pre-season comments of delivering success during a second campaign, as he had done in Scotland.

Former Australia boss Postecoglou – who also won silverware at South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar as well as in Japan with Yokohama F Marinos – takes his Spurs side to Coventry in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Spurs’ last trophy came when they lifted the League Cup in 2008, and Postecoglou was again pressed on his comments over targeting silverware this season.

“It is amazing, isn’t it? I just stated a fact and it seems like am I supposed to just lie or just say it never happened?” Postecoglou said. “It is confusing that people are making a big deal out of something – surely I am supposed to answer something that is true?

"I have just said something that is true and it seems like it has upset a lot of people for some reason. Do you really think it’s me sort of boasting?

“I am not really sure why people misconstrue it as me trying to boast about something. I have answered a question which is true.

“That’s always happened and my plan is for it to happen again this year – if it doesn’t happen, then I can’t answer that question the same way next year."

  15. 'Most aggressive press in Europe'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 18 September

    Coventry v Tottenham (20:00 BST)

    Coventry

Coventry are 14th in the Championship and hoping for another fine run after they reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season, losing on penalties to Manchester United at Wembley after a 3-3 thriller went to a shoot-out.

The Sky Blues drew 1-1 at Watford and boss Mark Robins told the Coventry City website: "Whatever happened on Saturday, it doesn’t prepare you for coming up against a Tottenham side who have the most aggressive press in Europe at the moment.

"They have top players throughout the side. We have to wait and see what they do, but for us we have to try and find and navigate our way through an interesting few days. It is a really tough game and we don’t want to turn up and be passengers, we want to compete and give them a game.

"We know Premier League athletes are different animals, but we’ve done OK against some of those teams before. You have to be at your best and they have to have an off night, but that’s not to say we won’t be having a real go, because the chance of getting through is mouthwatering.”

  17. O'Neil keen to protect first-team playerspublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 18 September

    Brighton v Wolves (19:45 BST)

    Wolves

Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil admits he cannot afford to gamble with the fitness of key players in the Carabao Cup.

A tough start to the Premier League season has left his side with just one point after difficult encounters against Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle but with the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City to come before the end of October O’Neil is already thinking ahead.

He has made 10 changes for tonight's tie at Brighton as the Wolves boss protects key figures to boost their league campaign.

“It’s a game we want to win but a game we will probably need to make changes,” said O’Neil after Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, before he had named his side for tonight.

“There are certain areas in the squad we can’t afford to pick up injuries in: Daws (Craig Dawson) would be high risk.

“It would be tricky to put too much on Daws. Yerson (Mosquera) has some issues with his calf and we were slightly concerned about him going into the Newcastle game, so it would be a big risk to put him out there.

“Toti (Gomes) will probably miss it with his hamstring issues. There are some decisions which need to be made but I’m not willing to risk really important players to us in key areas of the pitch with a big game coming up against Aston Villa.

“We could see young lads at centre-back at Brighton.”

Alfie Pond, 20, is set for his first Wolves start after spending last season on loan at Stockport County.

  18. Team news - Spurs make eight changespublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 18 September

    Coventry v Tottenham (20:00 BST)

Coventry make seven changes from their team who drew 1-1 with Watford last time out in the Championship.

Milan Van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Josh Eccles and Jack Rudoni all keep their spots.

Subs: Collins, Kitching, Broad, Torp, Andrews, Mason-Clark, Sheaf, Sakamoto, Simms.

As for Spurs, it's only Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie who started their loss to Arsenal who stay in the starting XI.

Teenager Archie Gray makes his first start for the club. Ben Davies is in at centre-back.

Tottenham XI: Forster; Gray, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie, Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall, Odobert, Solanke, Werner.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler says teenager Evan Ferguson has nothing to prove in tonight's home Carabao Cup tie against Wolves.

The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland striker, who stepped off the bench in Saturday’s goalless home draw against Ipswich, is poised to make his first start under Hurzeler after recovering from an ankle injury sustained last season.

The Seagulls boss said: “He doesn’t have to show me what he can do because I know what his potential is. I saw a lot of games of his already in the past when he played for Brighton. He’s a great finisher in the box. He has the whole package for a striker.”

Ferguson, who has not started for the Seagulls since March, scored six goals in his first 12 Premier League appearances last season.

Hurzeler added: “It’s important that he integrates in our style of play, that he follows our principles. That’s the most important thing for me.

“He should do his work on the pitch in possession, out of possession. He should help the team and then he will have a great impact on our game for sure.”

  20. Team news - Wolves make 10 changespublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 18 September

    Brighton v Wolves (19:45 BST)

Brighton make eight changes with Jack Hinshelwood, Yankuba Minteh and Carlos Baleba all retaining their starting spots after a 0-0 draw with Ipswich at the weekend.

It's 10 changes for Wolves with only Joao Gomes keeping his place from the side that lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle last time out.

Tommy Doyle, 22, captains the visitors.

Wolves XI: Sa; Lima, Bueno, Pond, Doherty, J. Gomes, Doyle, R. Gomes, Sarabia, Hwang, Guedes.
