I certainly don't think it was a penalty, but the player himself was well within his right to go to ground and look towards the referee.

    Bolton have come out firing.

Wrexham will be looking to take Wycombe's spot in the top two when the two meet at Adams Park this afternoon.

The two teams are currently level on points, though the Chairboys do have the better goal difference and a game in hand.

Bolton need a win at home to Stockport in the early kick-off else risk an exit from the play off spots with both Huddersfield and Reading in place for a potential overtake.

While at the opposing end of the table, Burton Albion are making the trip to basement dwellers Shrewsbury Town as they look to get closer to safety.

New Wigan Athletic boss Ryan Lowe will get to see his new side in action before taking the reins as they visit play off contenders Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks could go as many as eight points clear in the top six - and if Wycombe and Wrexham don't see a winner, just three points off a place in the top two.

  9. Ferguson expects tough fight in Cambridgeshire derbypublished at 12:16 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

Cambridge United v Peterborough (12:30 GMT)

Darren Ferguson expects nothing less than Cambridge United “fighting like hell” in their local derby this afternoon but will go into the clash buoyed by their recent record in the contest.

Posh have climbed away from the relegation zone after stringing together five matches unbeaten since the middle of last month and now sit nine points clear.

But Peterborough manager Ferguson insisted winning the last four against the Us in all competitions, including a 6-1 win at home in the reverse fixture in November, will count for nothing unless his players maintain their recent high standards.

The initial bounce of two wins which followed the appointment of boss Neil Harris to the Cambridge dugout in February has given way to a disappointing slump of three straight defeats.

With the club 10 points adrift of Peterborough one place above the relegation zone, victory today seems essential if they are not to slip further towards the League Two plughole.

Harris called for his players to adopt a "one game mentality" and give fans something to grab hold of early in the game. "What’s happened earlier in the season doesn’t matter; this is about pride and doing it for our fans," he said.

Bolton Wanderers have only lost two games since appointing new boss Steven Schumacher at the end of January, catapulting them into a play off spot.

Though Tuesday's scrappy 3-2 defeat to relegation-battlers Bristol Rovers will have them back down on earth.

The competition for those play off spots is tight and there are two teams - Reading and Huddersfield - who would love to see them displaced.

They will want to bounce back quickly but will have to do so against a high flying Stockport County side.

Win this all-Lancashire affair and they'll go above their visitors and more importantly, they'll be back on track for a glorious second half of their season. Could it all end with a promotion?

A draw for Walsall will likely see them end the day still at the apex of the League Two table - but Bradford City could get level on points if they defeat Tranmere Rovers.

Meanwhile, Colchester United's impressive form could see them break into the play off spots as they host Fleetwood Town.

At the other end, Morecambe could get within one of Rovers if they defeat Barrow but risk ending up in the basement if Carlisle earn victory.

Though it will be tough ask for the team at bottom, who face an AFC Wimbledon side eyeing a place in the top three.

  13. In-form Swindon host rebounding Cheltenhampublished at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March

    Swindon v Cheltenham (12:30 GMT)

Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn says his side put in "some performance" to beat AFC Wimbledon last time out and end a four game winless run - but can they keep the balling rolling?

This time they travel to Swindon Town, who are looking to win two successive matches against Cheltenham for the first time.

Swindon have won six of their last 10 league games (D3 L1) - that's as many victories as across their past 30 League Two matches combined - and could go ahead of their visitors if their winning ways continue today.

With Ian Holloway's men buoyant from their current form, Cheltenham will need another big performance if they are to take all three points and break into the top 10, even if for a short amount of time.

    Crewe v Doncaster (12:30 GMT)

Play-off hopefuls Crewe strengthened their hopes of a top-seven finish by rescuing a point at Salford last time out but will be hoping to go one further today by picking up three after failing to pick up wins in their past two outings.

The Railwaymen will know that any slip ups here could result in them dropping out of the play-off places with it being so tightly congested.

Despite picking up just one win in their past five home league games, their record at the Mornflake Stadium is impressive against Doncaster. They are unbeaten across their past seven home league games against Rovers (W4 D3), since a 2-1 loss in April 2013.

Grant McCann’s Doncaster side missed the opportunity to pull clear in the race for automatic promotion after squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Swindon last Saturday.

Like today’s opponents third-placed Rovers have also failed to pick up a win in their past two games but go into this having won four of their past six league games on their travels.

They boast the best away record in the league with no team in League Two this season having won more games on the road. They’ll be looking to win 10 away games in a league season for the first time since 2016-17 (11).

Are you ready for a big afternoon in the EFL?

With Birmingham City looking imperious at the top of League One, the rest of the chasing pack have got their eyes on one spot - and today, it could see a new occupant.

Wrexham visit Wycombe Wanderers in a bid to knock them out of their automatic promotion spot, while Shrewsbury Town welcome Burton Albion in hopes of lifting out of bottom place.

League Two also won't be seeing any changes at the apex thanks to Walsall's draw with Bromley in the week, but the Saddlers' grip isn't as tight as their fellow West Midlands side in the league above and Bradford City will want to level up the points.

    Quite the treat, no?

So settle in as we take you through all today's highs and lows starting with four 12:30 GMT kick-offs.
