  2. 'We made one or two errors and they punished us'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager assistant Scott Rogers looks onImage source, PA Media

Liverpool assistant manager Scott Rogers: "I thought we deserved a point from the game. We frustrated them for large periods which was part of the game plan and we were dangerous on the counter - we got our goal from Olivia Smith from that kind of situation in the first half.

"We made one or two defensive errors towards the end and they punished us."

"We limited them to two shots on target in the whole game and we had three, so that tells you a lot about the game. We didn't have a lot of the ball but I felt we were in control in periods. We knew where they were having the ball and were comfortable."

On Olivia Smith's injury: "I'm not too sure at the minute, I've not spoken to the medical staff yet. They will assess her, she seemed ok but I haven't got any more information other than she could not carry on."

On the end to the side's unbeaten run: "There are lots of positives to take from it. We are disappointed to lose but we will reflect and try to tidy some stuff up and look where City caused us issues and look forward going into Crystal Palace.

"We have always felt like we can compete with the top teams, as we saw last year. We still believe that on our day we can beat anyone but today was not quite our day."

  3. 'We got punished when we switched off'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool assistant manager Scott Rogers, speaking to Sky Sports: "Lots of positives. I thought we nearly warranted a point. Defensively our shape was positive and we frustrated City for long periods. We got punished when we switched off.

"Rosie Laws has done well today she pulled off some good saves. She is a big part of the team and she worked really hard for us."

On Olivia Smith: "I haven't spoke to the medical staff properly. There was a bump and it was a blow for us as Olivia was causing them problems on the counter - to lose that was a blow.

"The WSL clubs in general, she's drawn a lot attention to herself with how she plays. She carries the ball really well, teams are targeting that and being a bit rough with her at times - that's part of the league and she'll have to get used to it.

"There is disappointment as you don't want to lose a game. I think we warranted a point, but there is loads of positives we can review."

  4. 'No one is better than Bunny in that situation'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

More from Man City boss Gareth Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: "It felt as though we were always going to get chances with the quality we have on the ball. There were a few near misses from Bunny [Shaw] and a few others then a good pass from Laia [Aleixandri] and no one is better than Bunny in that situation. She was hardly in the game at times and then bang two goals."

On building rhythm: "The hardest thing is to score a goal, and when you are facing a back five it is even harder.

"I just felt like we had to move the ball quicker and we would make chances. We needed to up our game, up our tempo and once we do that we are much tougher to face. I felt we did that better in the second half."

  5. 'I felt we deserved it'published at 17:27 British Summer Time 13 October

Manchester City manager Gareth TaylorImage source, PA Media

Man City boss Gareth Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: "That [winning goal] was the perfect tonic! Those extra time winners are amazing. We have seen it here at Anfield over the years from Liverpool those late winners but for us today it is great because I felt we deserved it.

"We were a little bit sloppy in the first half and Liverpool make it so hard to play against them with the back five. I felt we got our rewards in the end, we were dominant. Sometimes you don't get the rewards but we were patient and kept probing until the end - I was really proud of that last half hour of the performance."

On a tough match after midweek football: "That has a big bearing on things. Even today when you feel we were a bit flat it was hard to bring someone on from the sidelines because they were not in the rhythm of the game and it just felt we were starting to find our way, particularly in the end."

  7. 'Days like today are fantastic'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City manager Gareth Taylor: "Huge for us to continue the good start to the season.

"We knew it was going to be tough, Liverpool made it difficult and we were slow moving the ball in the first half. In the second half we were playing much quicker and we felt it would turn.

"We felt like they were going to play a four [at the back] after being successful against Spurs last week.

"When you play against a five [at the back] it is difficult because of the spaces. By the time you get the space to your wingers the space is so compact.

"Second half we upped our game after a period where Liverpool had a couple of corner. Days like today are fantastic - it solidifies what we do and I said to the girls 'that's a great way to win'.

"Today we forced that ball in the net and it was a great ball from Laia [Aleixandri]. You felt like we would get a few chances in overtime."

  9. 'I kept telling the girls it was going to come'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City's Khadija Shaw: "Very important because we know how tight this league is. It's tight margins which is going to win you the championship.

"Very difficult [opponents] when they go with five at the back, with us we like to find the spaces so credit to Liverpool. They made it difficult we spoke about how we could find ways to put the ball in the box. That's something we tried to do and I got a goal so it worked."

On her winning goal: "I tried to kick it as hard as I could, I knew the pace would beat the goalkeeper. I went to the referee about time as they kept going down. I kept telling the girls it was going to come."

  10. 'Taylor will be delighted'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 13 October

  11. 'An ugly win is just as important'published at 17:14 British Summer Time 13 October

    FT: Liverpool 1-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City scorer Khadija Shaw, speaking to Sky Sports: "Coming into this game we knew it was going to be tough, especially with the game in midweek but we have to try to get the job done. At the end of the day sometimes an ugly win is just as important as the three points, so we just have to keep going."

On Liverpool: "We know the type of team that they are, very direct and they like to put the balls in behind - they then managed to get one in the first half.

"We knew that if we managed to focus on what we were capable of doing we were going to get goals."

On if there was a 'hangover' after Barcelona win midweek: "We knew that it was important to get that win in the Champions League, first game against a top team. Coming into this game we wanted to continue what we were doing in midweek but the style of game is different.

"In midweek we were able to press high but Liverpool today wanted to get the ball in behind and work the transition, so we had to keep our composure and focus on what we can do in terms of passing and that's what we did."

Not at their best, but digging out a win. For me Bunny Shaw showing once again why she’s one of the best all round strikers in the women’s game.

A big winning goal from a big-game player.
