First Rory putting a shocking first hole out of his mind and going on to win his first Masters and now Bukayo putting aside his missed pen to produce a match-winning performance. World class performers show they can overcome adversity and seize the moment. Well done Gunners, proud to be a Gooner as always.

  4. Real Madrid's 43 crosses against Arsenalpublished at 10:13 British Summer Time 17 April

Real Madrid 1-2 Arsenal (agg 1-5)

Real Madrid seemed to have a clear tactic last night - put as many crosses into the Arsenal box as possible.

From the 43 crosses completed by Real Madrid, only seven were successful. On the other side, Arsenal completed just nine crosses.

Real Madrid also ended the game with 66% of possession, and completed 48 more passes in the final third than their opponents. Yet the hosts managed just three shots on target, with Arsenal having six.

Speaking on this, Rio Ferdinand said on TNT Sports: "Real Madrid are just crossing the ball. That's the only threat I'm seeing, put the ball in the box and hope for the best.

"If you told me you'd go to the Bernabeu and all you'd have to do is defend crosses, I'd be delighted. You need someone coming into the pockets."

It sounds as if Luke is in the too-soon camp, but fair play for not getting carried away.

He makes a good point about getting the balance right between defence and attack.

I agree with JD, I’m done with glorious nights like yesterday counting for nothing at the end of the season. Until we get our hands on the thing, I will view yesterday as nothing more than just another victory to go with the rest. The most encouraging thing though is how expertly we negotiated the different requirements of a home & away leg. Front foot & high energy in the home tie to get in the box seat, combined with a game management masterclass in the away leg. I accept that PSG & Barcelona have better quality, but we know very well that winning cup competitions requires a balance offensively & defensively and judging by the fact that those two conceded three goals each this week, I can confidently say that we are the best of the four remaining sides at that.

Here we go again. Arsenal won't beat X because X are better. The only teams this Arsenal struggle against are solid low block sides who frustrate us. None of the three sides left are that type of team. Inter were when we played them last time but not any more. Sorry to upset the pessimistic vibes but we are winning the whole thing. Champions of Europe, we will finally sing that!

  10. What is La Remontada?published at 09:53 British Summer Time 17 April

'Remontada' is a Spanish term that translates to 'comeback'. Ahead of last night's second leg that word was dominating plenty of the talk.

Real Madrid have a bit of a reputation for turning things around in the Champions League.

Just last season they produced a stunning turnaround against Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu. Bayern led until the 88th minute but two goals in three minutes from Joselu booked Real's place in the final.

On three out of the past four occasions of which Real Madrid trailed after the first leg [before last night] in the Champions League, they had fought back to reach the next round - against Wolfsburg in 2015-16 and in 2021-22 against both Paris St-Germain and Manchester City.

The only time they have fought back from three goals down after a first leg came in the European Cup against Derby County in the last 16 of the 1975-76 edition, winning 6-5 on aggregate following a 4-1 defeat at the Baseball Ground.

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham said the second leg against Arsenal at the Bernabeu was 'a night made for Real Madrid' but as we know, that's not really how it panned out.

"Remontada...[comeback].I've heard it a million times since last week, I've seen a million videos - it's really motivating stuff," Bellingham said in his pre-match news conference.

"It's a night that's made for Real Madrid. A night that would go down in history but also something that people are familiar with around this part of this world. Hopefully we can add another special night."

  13. Arsenal march on as Real take stockpublished at 09:41 British Summer Time 17 April

As the Arsenal celebrations got into full swing last night, the post mortem was already beginning for Real Madrid.

While the Gunners reached the semi-finals for the third time in their history (2005-06, 2008-09 & 2024-25), Real failed to reach the last four for only the third time in 15 years (2018-19, 2019-20 & 2024-25).

Great result over 2 legs for the Gunners. I don't care if this isn't the best version of Madrid - 5 goals in 2 games, monster performances from so many players across both matches. I remember 2006 and Henry's goal, now we also have this great memory. Nothing won yet though. Very tough SF coming up.

To go to the Bernabeu and get a result, any result, but a win particularly. You talk about creating history, Mikel Arteta created history and will continue to make history.

This man [Bukayo Saka] typified it from start to finish because he had a night where it could've gone the other way for him but Saka for me is such a resilient character in that dressing room.

First of all, his intention is positive. He's always one against one. The difference between Arsenal and Real Madrid is they always doubled up.

Last night confirms beyond all doubt that Arsenal are a team renewed. Missing a penalty, then (almost) conceding one, against the Champions League title holders, at the Bernabeu. That would have many previous Arsenal sides rattled. This lot kept their cool even when Madrid were in the ascendancy. Rice looked outstanding and I thought Odegaard was brilliant too but really, everyone in an Arsenal shirt had a good game. They’ve become a brilliant team across the pitch. The semi-finals against PSG will be fascinating.

  17. Arsenal favourites to win Champions League - Optapublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 17 April

The good news is that Opta's supercomputer does not believe Arsenal playing the second leg of their semi-final away from home will affect their chances of Champions League glory.

The latest predictions show that the Gunners are now favourites to win this season's competition, with a 28.7% chance of lifting the trophy in Munich, where the final will be played on 31 May.

Inter Milan are second favourites, with a 25.5% chance, followed by Paris St-Germain (24%) and Barcelona (21.8%).

  18. Why are PSG at home for CL semi-final second leg v Arsenal?published at 09:16 British Summer Time 17 April

An image of the inside of the Santiago BernabeuImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal were one of the eight seeded teams in this year's Champions League but faced the unseeded Real Madrid away in the second leg of the quarter-finals.

Not only that, but they will now face unseeded French champions Paris St-Germain away from home in the second leg of the semi-finals.

    But why?

In the new format, the privilege of having the second leg on home soil only extends as far as the last-16. The Gunners faced PSV over two legs, the second of which came at the Emirates. Beyond that though, it is purely luck of the draw.

A randomised draw took place when Arsenal's last-16 opponents were decided and it revealed that Mikel Arteta's men would play both the quarter-final and semi-final at home first.

  19. When will the Champions League semi-finals be played?published at 09:11 British Summer Time 17 April

    • Barcelona v Inter Milan (30 April)
    • Inter Milan v Barcelona (6 May)
