Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall says playing in the atmosphere created by Legia Warsaw fans provides adds extra "motivation."

The 26-year-old is the only member of the squad to have previously experienced playing at Stadion Miejski Legii Warszawa when he visited with Leicester in the Europa League in 2021.

Supporters of the Polish club have built a reputation for creating a hostile atmosphere for visiting sides.

Despite suffering a narrow defeat with his former team at the stadium, Dewsbury-Hall is relishing being in the atmosphere again when the Blues take on Legia Warsaw in the their Conference League quarter-final first leg on Thursday.

"It is definitely an atmosphere you have to experience as a player because it gives you the added little motivation. The home fans will help the home side but I feel like we can use it to help us," he said.

"It's something I'm really thankful for and it definitely helped me when I made my progression to play in the Premier League. It helped me to get used to different environments and for when the fans are being loud and getting right behind their team. It gave me a good base to kick on, and it's nice that I can come back and experience it again."

That win helped them also qualify for the Super Cup, but were denied the title by Ajax.

Rangers squeezed through to the last 16 of the Europa League with a 2-1 win against Union Saint-Gilloise in their final league phase fixture.

That result saw them finish eighth with 14 points as they won four, drew two and lost two of their eight games in the first phase of the competition.

Rangers had to dig deep to overcome Fenerbahce in the last 16 despite them winning the first leg in Istanbul 3-1, courtesy of a goal from Cyriel Dessers and a brace from Vaclav Cerny.

But Sebastian Szymanski scored twice in the return leg as Jose Mourinho's side drew level and took the game into extra time and then penalties.

But the Gers held on to beat the Turkish side on penalties and continue their European journey.

As a Man United fan, winning the Europa League would obviously be great as it comes with the promise of Champions League football next season. On current league form, I doubt we'll get any European football next season outside of winning Europa. It would be great for Amorim to win a trophy in his first half season - but I doubt his future rests on this. Short of being relegated, he's guaranteed the summer transfer window(s) and will be judged next season.

    • The only previous European knockout meeting between Spurs and Eintracht Frankfurt was in the 1981-82 Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final – Spurs won 2-0 at home before losing 2-1 away in the second leg, but progressed 3-2 on aggregate.

They’ve only won one of their last 13 quarter-final matches (D6 L6), a 1-0 home win over Man City in April 2019.
    • This is Eintracht Frankfurt’s third UEFA Europa League quarter-final; despite failing to win the first leg of either of their first two (lost 4-2 to Benfica in 2018-19, drew 1-1 with Barcelona in 2021-22), they qualified for the semi-finals both times.

  12. How Cherki ranks alongside PSG's finestpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 10 April

Lyon v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Any attacking stat you care to mention, Lyon's France forward Rayan Cherki is up there with the very best in Ligue 1.

Only Paris St-Germain's leading lights can come close to matching the 21-year-old's numbers in the French top-flight this season:

    • Dribbles completed: 2nd with 74 [behind PSG's Doue 79]
    • Total take-ons: 4th with 158 [behind PSG's Barcola 213, Doue 192, Dembele 159]
    • Chances created - including assists: 1st with 103 [ahead of PSG's Hakimi 88 & Dembele 86]
    • Chances created from open play: 2nd with 79 [behind Hakimi 87, and ahead of Barcola 65, Dembele 65 & Doue 53]

  13. Cherki's 'a wizard with the ball' - Maitland-Nilespublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 10 April

Lyon v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Rayan Cherki's stats have translated into a solid season for Lyon, with 27 goal involvements in 36 matches in all competitions.

The 21-year-old France forward has scored nine goals, with two coming in his 10 appearances in Lyon's Europa League campaign - sealing their route through to face Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

Only three players from Europe's top five leagues - United captain Bruno Fernandes (129), Barcelona's Raphinha (122) and Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich (113) - have created more than Cherki's 103 chances in all competitions this season.

"He is the best natural talent I've ever seen," Cherki's team-mate Ainsley Maitland-Niles told BBC Sport.

"An absolute master, a wizard with the ball.

"He is taking chances, assists and dragging us up the pitch by taking people on and nutmegging them - he is a genius."

Lyon v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

There is nothing quite so exciting or refreshing in football as a rising new star announcing their arrival on the world stage.

Those neutrals who enjoyed Desire Doue's eye-catching display for Paris St-Germain against Aston Villa on Wednesday could well be treated to a glimpse of another hot prospect from Ligue 1 when Lyon host Manchester United in the Europa League tonight.

Rayan Cherki has been described by Lyon team-mate Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the "best natural talent" he has ever seen.

That's coming from a former Arsenal and England Under-21 international who has played alongside Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden.

But don't take Ainsley's word for it - coming up are some stats that put 21-year-old France forward Cherki up with the very best that title winners PSG have to offer.

Manchester United began their Europa League campaign with three consecutive draws against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.

But the Red Devils followed it up with five consecutive victories, including against fellow quarter-finalists Bodo/Glimt and Rangers.

They finished the league phase as the only unbeaten side in the competition - taking third place behind Lazio and Athletic Club to qualify for the last 16.

Real Sociedad were their opponents in their first knockout tie after the La Liga outfit beat Midtjylland in 7-3 in their knockout phase play-offs.

The first leg in San Sebastian saw the two teams play out a 1-1 draw but Ruben Amorim's men were rampant in the return leg at Old Trafford as a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick and a stoppage-time goal from Diogo Dalot secured a 4-1 victory and a place in the quarter-finals.

Manchester United - Road to the quarter-finals:

A graphic with a side-by-side picture of Nemanja Matic and Andre Onana

Serbia midfielder Nemanja Matic, now playing for United's Europa League quarter-final opponents Lyon, made the build-up to the tie unexpectedly tense as he took offence to comments made by United keeper Andre Onana.

The 36-year-old said: "If you are one of the worst keepers in Manchester United history, you need to take care.

"If David de Gea, Peter Schmeichel or Edwin van der Sar said that, I would question myself.

"But if, statistically, you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United's modern history, he needs to show that before he says."

Really looking forward to the Man Utd game tonight. The Matic/Onana comments add extra flare and an extra dimension to the game. Good to finally see some passion in the game and hopefully that correlates on the pitch tonight for a game to remember!

Lyon v Man Utd (20:00 BST)

Andre Onana kisses the FA Cup trophyImage source, Getty Images

Andre Onana took the bait, and responded with an equally cutting post on X:

"I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud.

"At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same."

This came with a picture of Onana kissing the FA Cup, which he won with United last season.

Nemanja Matic played for Manchester United from 2017 to 2022, making 128 appearances for the Red Devils, but failed to help them lift a trophy during his time at Old Trafford.

He joined Ligue 1 side Lyon in 2024 after spells at Rennes and Roma.

Matic did, however, win the Premier League twice, plus the FA Cup and EFL Cup in a four-year spell at Chelsea.
