Non-league Tamworth cause upset as they knock Burton out of FA Cup on penalties

Tamworth boss Andy Peaks knew Lambs keeper Jas Singh had it in him to dump League One side Burton out of the FA Cup with his penalty heroics - it was the scorers that he did not see coming.

Singh saved two spot-kicks as the National League side prevailed 4-3 on penalties after coming from a goal down against League One strugglers Burton Albion to draw 1-1.

"I was confident he'd save some because he is such a good goalkeeper," Peaks told BBC Radio WM.

"I wasn't sure how many we would score because we haven't had a penalty yet this season. It was about who wanted to be brave to take them, and fair play to the five that stood up - it was absolutely brilliant."

Burton are the second side from League One that Tamworth have knocked out of the FA Cup in as many rounds, having beaten Huddersfield in their previous tie.

They are now in Monday night's third-round draw with Premier League and Championship clubs.

"To be in the hat with the big boys - the real big boys - is unbelievable," Peaks said.

"Today epitomes the football club and what we have got at the moment with this group of players."

Tamworth keeper Jas Singh saved two penalties as the Lambs beat Burton Albion to reach the third round of the FA Cup

Singh saved from Danilo Orsi and Ben Whitfield to put the non-league side in control of the shootout, before Haydn Hollis fired home the winning spot-kick.

Mason Bennett and Ronan Maher traded goals early in extra time after a goalless 90 minutes in the second-round tie.

Bennett fired home with the aid of a couple of deflections for Albion before Maher pounced to equalise after Max Crocombe had saved Tom McGlinchey's effort.

Singh twice denied Albion's Billy Bodin either side of half-time in a game of few clear-cut chances, with the hosts dominating but unable to find a way through the Lambs defence.

Whitfield was close to giving Burton the lead minutes after coming on, his audacious lobbed effort from the halfway line catching out Singh but dropping just over the bar.

Another Albion sub, Bennett, also went close with a shot on the turn that Singh needed two attempts to grab on his line.

Ben Milnes almost grabbed a late winner in normal time for the visitors, but Crocombe stopped his low curling shot at the far post to send the game to an additional 30 minutes and spot-kicks.

Interim Burton boss 'sorry' for fans

For Burton, their FA Cup exit against a non-league side is a new low in a season of despair.

They have been without a manager since Mark Robinson was sacked on 23 October, and they sit bottom of the third tier with just one League One win since the club was taken over by the Nordic Football Group in the summer.

Interim head coach Tom Hounsell said Burton's defeat by a Staffordshire rival from two leagues below the Brewers was "disappointing and frustrating".

"Huge apologies to the fans because we haven't given them enough moments to celebrate this year," he told BBC Radio Derby.

"This should have been another opportunity for that but we haven't provided it."
