'Fantastic' Wolves showed spirit but still need to improve - Vitor Pereira

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I believe that we will stay in the Premier League and we will play at a better level than we saw today.

"Today I am happy, as the team showed spirit and that spirit is what Wolves supporters want to see.

"I asked them to be proud of our work at the end of the game and to make the supporters proud of our work."

The Portuguese coach, 56, was handed his first job in the Premier League on Thursday and took charge of his first Wolves training session that day.

"In three days, to organise the team and give them confidence to play - that is hard," he added.

"I believe that this team will be more comfortable with the ball, with more possession and also creating more situations to score."

Leicester 0-3 Wolves: 'Individual mistakes' led to 'disappointing' loss - Van Nistelrooy

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy speaking to BBC Radio Leicester: "It is clear what went wrong, and everyone saw that in the first-half.

"Individual mistakes and situations that you don't handle well can cost you. Wolves were very effective at putting those moments away.

"We have to acknowledge that we didn't look good, and I will be the first to do that - it is a hard one to take."

On suffering two straight defeats: "The players were focused and committed today. They wanted to do well, but it (the defeat) happened.

"We, and the players, are frustrated and disappointed but it is now about reflecting to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"Last week we spoke about set-pieces, today we are talking about miscommunication and individual mistakes.

"In the Premier League, you have to be spot on against everyone, in all areas of the game."

Vitor Pereira believes "we will stay in the Premier League" after his Wolves reign got off to a dream start with a comfortable away win against fellow strugglers Leicester.

The Portuguese coach was appointed as Gary O'Neil's successor on Thursday and made four changes to the side that suffered a late 2-1 home defeat by Ipswich last week.

Two of those he brought in were compatriots Goncalo Guedes and Rodrigo Gomes, and both pounced inside the opening 36 minutes.

Top scorer Matheus Cunha also took advantage of some sloppy Leicester defending to add a third with his ninth goal of the season right before half-time.

Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy made a double change at half-time, then another just seven minutes into the second half, but the hosts barely threatened as Wolves halted a four-match losing streak.

    • Since the beginning of October, Everton have kept seven clean sheets in the Premier League, the most of any team across Europe’s big five leagues. The Toffees have kept five clean sheets across their last six league matches.
    • Everton put an end to Chelsea’s 15-match scoring run in the Premier League today, with the Blues failing to score for the first time in the league since a 0-2 defeat to Manchester City on the opening day of the season.
    • Despite having 12 shots, Chelsea accumulated an xG of just 0.77 today, their lowest in any of their 17 Premier League matches this season and the fourth-lowest xG overall by a team to have had 12+ shots this term.

Maresca 'very happy' with 'fantastic' Chelsea after Everton draw

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, speaking to MOTD: "That was a real game. I am very happy because the performance of the boys was fantastic. Sometimes you have to play a different game and we are learning to play a different game. They are one of the best teams in Europe in terms of clean sheets.

"I said to the players I was more happy than [last week's] game at Brentford [Chelsea won 2-1]. We tried everything. For sure, you can always do something better but we are very happy because this is a tough stadium - not only for us but also in the Premier League."

Everton boss Sean Dyche, speaking to MOTD: "I said before game Enzo Maresca has done a fine job and they have certainly shown the power they have got. We could have nicked it. It was two teams going at it in the right way. You have to be willing to put a shift in and I think that was on show today.

"Chances were minimal. They had a couple and we had a couple towards the end. We take a point. I've never not been proud of these players. We've come through a storm. I respect them.

"We want to be productive in possession but its not easy against these teams."

  8. Chelsea held by Evertonpublished at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time

    Everton 0-0 Chelsea

Second-placed Chelsea slipped further behind Liverpool after they were held to a goalless draw by Everton at Goodison Park.

Arne Slot's were guaranteed top spot at Christmas no matter the result after Maresca's men failed to break down an obdurate Toffees backline.

Jordan Pickford denied Nicolas Jackson following a sweeping team move and the Senegal international heading against the post from close range.

At the other end, Orel Mangala's low strike from outside the area was pushed away by Robert Sanchez at full stretch in Everton's best opening of the first half.

After the break, Jack Harrison missed a chance to open the scoring when his effort from close range was blocked by Sanchez.

Iliman Ndiaye also had a late chance to win it for the Toffees but was denied by a superb block by defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

As a Man Utd fan I’m feeling optimistic about Amorim and the facts that you can see pockets of progress within the team but also a little confused as to why he’s not giving some of the academy players a run out whilst still allowing players like Anthony and Zirkzee time on the pitch. I’m hoping by now he’s realised that they are simply not good enough.

    Nigel Reo-Coker

The recruitment for so many years at Manchester United has been the problem.

For me, I just don't see this whole 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 formation working at Manchester United.

Because when you look at the goals they conceded against Bournemouth, there looked like confusion all the time when they don't have possession because these players are not understanding the system.

And the fact that Ruben Amorim has been given this freedom to implement this system, it looked like a reality check to these fans.

  13. 'Everything is so hard' - Amorimpublished at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time

    Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim: "In this moment, everything is so hard. At a club like Manchester United, to lose 3-0 at home, it's really tough for everybody.

"Of course the fans are really disappointed and tired. You can feel it in the stadium in the first play. At the first goal-kick with Andre Onana, he's thinking what to do and pushing the other guys and everybody is so anxious.

"I understand that, but we have to face it."

Could life at Manchester United get any more dispiriting?

They have just lost 3-0 at home to "little" Bournemouth, as described by Cherries owner Bill Foley, for the second season running, a result that means they will spend Christmas 13th in the table. It is the first time they have been in the bottom half at this stage since the pre-Premier League days.

Their fans – who booed Ruben Amorim's team off at the final whistle – are so upset at the imposition of a ticket price rise to a flat £66 with no concessions that they are joining forces with fellow supporters at bitter rivals Liverpool to protest when the two sides meet at Anfield on 5 January.

Just as Amorim was telling the media he felt fans were "tired" in his post-match press conference, a leak from the ceiling led to water running onto journalists on the front row, forcing one of them to move.

While many fans will be quite happy to learn of journalists covering their club getting a soaking, as a public farce it takes some beating.

Ruben Amorim has now won four, lost four and drawn one of his nine games in charge of Manchester United in all competitions.

From the joy of the red half of Merseyside to the despair of the red side of Manchester.

The Red Devils were booed off as they lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth for the second year in a row.

It is their third defeat it four Premier League games and leaves them 13th in the table.

Dean Huijsen, Justin Kliuvert and Antoine Semenyo were on target for the Cherries, who are flying high in fifth and eyeing a place in Europe.

Put it this way, Manchester City can only achieve 90 points this season.

So you would effectively rule them out.

And if you start going above the teams above them. Arsenal have probably got two defeats they're allowed before they're out of the equation.

It's quite literally between Liverpool and Chelsea but obviously Chelsea dropped two points [at Everton].

I think Liverpool will beat 90 points comfortably.

To Nigel’s point about consistency at Liverpool. That’s spot on. Apart from Nunez, Robertson and occasionally Szoboszlai, I’ve found it really hard to criticise a single player this season so far. Levels.

As a fan it's going to be frustrating, because you keep seeing the same things again and again.

And, for a club that wants to progress, to win something, to be serious, like Liverpool and Man City that they're chasing, it just shows how far away from it they are with that performance.
