Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca told BBC Sport: "We controlled much better the first half. The second half the only shots they had we conceded a goal from.
"I think the handball [before Brighton's second goal] is quite clear. In the last two or three days there were many different moments in different games. Without VAR it's complicated.
"We tried to come here and make our game. We had a few chances at 2-1. Now we can focus on the Premier League and Conference League.
"We always try to win the games. But in the same way you have to take the consequece of the result."
Wlll this affect Friday's game? "I don't think so. Different competition, different game."

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler talking to BBC: "Great reaction. We showed character after that start. I'm proud of how they came back. It's not easy. That's why it was well deserved.
"Mistakes happen. If a keeper makes a mistake normally it's a goal. We try to support him because he's a great goalkeeper.
"Georginio Rutter is doing good. He adapted quickly to the intensity of the Premier League. He has great skills and showed it today.
"It was a togetherness on the pitch. It's a team performance. They bounced back, they stuck together. They didn't point fingers after losing. They took ownership."
On no VAR: "But that's it. That's football. With VAR football is getting not that emotional like today. Everyone agrees that today was a great atmosphere. They can celebrate a goal because they know it's a goal. I'm happy it was like that.
"We always try to stay grounded and work hard. We try not to get euphoric after a good win or panic after a defeat.
"That's why we all love football because you can bounce back. It's not always going up, it's downs. In life it's important to know a successful journey is not a comfortable journey."

It is a sensational second-half performance from Brighton. They also showed plenty of courage and determination to come back in the first half and they played their game.
They had to defend in numbers and they did that brilliantly. But it's the attacking threat that they have that has impressed me.

I thought being knocked out of the League Cup by Newcastle was our worst performance of the season. Then came Ipswich. Then City. Now this. Maresca is not the way forward.

Chelsea took an early lead when Cole Palmer's shot was fumbled into his own net by Bart Verbruggen. But Brighton fought back with goals from Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma.

Chelsea fans were annoyed with Christopher Nkunku because he was driving forward, with Tyrique George completely open on the left-hand side. He just completely stopped and turned back the other way. It is so disappointing.
