Joe Willock has epitomised everything Eddie Howe wants from his Newcastle players. He hasn't been playing regularly but has managed to step up.

But there have been a lot of very good performances.

Jacob Murphy takes a corner short to Sandro Tonali and he tries to shield the ball in the corner but it doesn't work and Birmingham can lump it forward from a goal kick.

Alex Cochrane, sporting a proper shiner on his right eye, brings down Sean Longstaff as the seconds tick away for Birmingham.

There are still a good five minutes remaining at St. Andrew's.

Alfie May picks up the ball wide left and looks to drive towards the box. He manages that and lets fly but his effort is far too weak to make it past Nick Pope.

Incredibly, Newcastle are on their way to making it past the fourth round for just the third time in the last 19 seasons.

Jacob Murphy had a simple pass to his left for William Osula for a tap-in, but he is a little bit selfish wanting to go for it himself.

I also need to tell you there has been a huge 12 minutes added on at the end of this game. Plenty of time for an equaliser?

It's a brilliant ball across to Jacob Murphy. That first touch just throws him off. I was expecting him to take it first time, maybe through the goalkeeper's legs.

He gets the shot on target but it's a brilliant clearance.

Ben Davies keeps his team in it with a brilliant goalline clearance but Jacob Murphy should be making it 4-2 there.

Joe Willock finds Murphy with a stunning, defence-splitting pass and Murphy rounds the goalkeeper but Davies does excellently to clear the shot.

Newcastle's experience is shining through and they're really taking the sting out of this game in the dying stages. Most importantly, they're taking the sting out of the crowd too.
