It is a glorious warm night here in Paris with conditions ideal for this Champions League quarter-final first leg.

The atmosphere is already being ramped up inside the Parc des Princes - and having sampled this stadium's atmosphere earlier in the competitions when Manchester City were beaten 4-2, the pre-match show is usually something very special.

We are hitting form at the perfect time. Our squad is 99% fit. Only Ross Barkley isn't fit and our real superstars are hitting form, the likes of Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi.

There was a big gamble when we loaned these guys in January.

These guys have elevated us to a different level. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio are a different class, they ooze class.

Rashford is a different guy to what he was at Manchester United. We are not afraid of anyone right now. Aston Villa were teetering on the end of oblivion a few years ago. Bring on anybody for us - we are confident.

For Unai Emery going back to Paris where he was a manager for two years - it's a huge test tactically.

Emery's best game for PSG was the 4-0 win in the first leg of that last-16 [against Barcelona in 2017] and then the worst game of his whole career was the 6-1 defeat in the second leg.

Tactically, he will have to find something because this PSG team for the last three months have played with so much flow.

It is a big challenge for Villa and Unai Emery needs to respond to what PSG can offer tonight.

On BBC Radio 5 Live Mark Chapman presents the build-up to PSG v Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-finals from 19:00 BST.

At the Parc des Princes BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Conor McNamara is alongside ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Arsenal's 3-0 win over Real Madrid last night ensured the Premier League would claim one of the two additional spots for next season's Champions League.

That means the top five will qualify for next season's top-tier competition. That could still rise to seven if Aston Villa win this season's Champions League but finish out of the top five and if either Tottenham or Manchester United win the Europa League.

As it stands, the five teams in next season's Champions League would be 1. Liverpool, 2. Arsenal, 3. Nottingham Forest, 4. Chelsea, 5 Newcastle.

The FA Cup winners go into the Europa League, unless they have already qualified for the Champions League via their league position. So unless Crystal Palace win the FA Cup, the teams on course for the Europa League are 6. Manchester City and 7. Aston Villa, with Fulham in eighth in line for the Conference League.

If Newcastle finish outside the Champions League and Europa League qualification places they would go into the Conference League because of their Carabao Cup success.

Tottenham and Manchester United can still secure European qualification, but only if they win the Europa League.

Unai Emery returns to Paris St-Germain to exorcise the personal demons of the so-called "La Remontada" while providing the X-factor in Aston Villa's attempt to reach a Champions League semi-final.

When the key elements of Villa's strategy to outflank this outstanding, emerging PSG side - who have already beaten Manchester City in the group stage and sent Liverpool out in the last 16 - are studied, eyes will turn as much to the master European strategist in their technical area as to those carrying out his instructions on the pitch.

And the narrative of what promises to be a thunderous night at Parc des Princes is held together by a selection of sub-plots, with Emery the central figure.

The Spaniard won seven trophies in two-year spell at PSG between 2016 and 2018 - including Ligue 1 in his second and final season – but his work here is still viewed through the prism of a nightmare night that will forever be known as "Le Remontada" (The Comeback).

It was the last-16 tie in the Champions League in 2017 when PSG thrashed the vintage Barcelona side boasting feared forwards Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez 4-0 in the first leg in Paris.

But in dramatic, unforgettable fashion, the French side were beaten 6-1 in a controversial return at the Camp Nou - a shattering loss that included conceding three goals in seven staggering minutes.

Emery was the first coach in Champions League history to lose a first-leg lead of such a margin, an aberration that cast a shadow over his successes in Paris.

Hansi Flick makes three changes to the Barcelona side that drew 1-1 with Real Betis on Saturday.

Ronald Araujo, Gavi and Ferran Torres drop to the bench, with Inigo Martinez, Fermin Lopez and Raphina coming in.

Aston Villa make eight changes from Saturday's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, with Marcus Rashford and captain John McGinn returning and Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres and Lucas Digne reinstated as the back four. Marco Ansensio, however, drops to the bench.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany said: "The result is for Inter at half-time. Well done to them. Next week we still feel belief we can win there.

"We had opportunities, we had chances, we could definitely have scored more than one goal.

"At the end I saw a lot of celebrations [from Inter Milan] but from our side it's half-time, it's 2-1 and we're motivated for the next game.

"The result is what it is, but it's still an opportunity for us to win in Milan. It's great to play at home, but also great to play away and we're looking forward to the game.

"Today is today, next week is next week. We will see. We have no reason to think any different than we can do it and we will do everything we can."

Inter Milan struck late to put themselves in a strong position to advance into the Champions League semi-finals after winning the first leg of their last-eight tie at Bayern Munich.

The German hosts dominated the opening half hour with England captain Harry Kane curling an effort against the right-hand post, but they fell behind to Inter's first shot on target.

The Serie A leaders scored a fine goal at the end of an excellent team move in the 38th minute.

Marcus Thuram showed great skill to jump and flick the ball into Lautaro Martinez's path with the Argentine striker firing his effort with the outside of the boot into the roof of the net.

However, substitute Thomas Muller levelled in the 85th minute with a goal that looked to have saved Bayern from defeat.

The 35-year-old announced last week he would be leaving in the summer, ending a 25-year association with the club, and he finished from close range after Konrad Laimer's low cross.

But there was to be another twist with just two minutes left.

Inter quickly broke up field and Carlos Augusto's cross was converted by substitute Davide Frattesi to ensure the Italians would leave Germany with a crucial advantage.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti to Amazon Prime: "The result means that Arsenal were much better than us. The game was a bit different. For 60 minutes the game was level, and then they shoot two fantastic free-kicks. The game it changes. Now it will be very difficult in the second leg. But we have to try.

"The reaction, mentally we went down. We had a problem in the final 30 minutes of the game."

On Real Madrid never overturning a three-goal first leg deficit in their history: "There is always a first time. You have to try. The only thing you can do together is to try, and we will try.

"They are a really good team. Compact all the time and good on the ball. They are a good team. I said this yesterday. No news.

"The comeback starts tonight."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to Amazon Prime: "Beautiful. So happy so proud of the team. We have the opportunity to make a lot of people proud and we certainly have done that. I've never seen the stadium like this. Before the game they were already singing and already playing the game.

"For big European nights you need the big stadiums that create atmosphere and you need individual magic moments and there you go.

"That's the beauty of whoever invented this sport. We hadn't scored a free-kick since September, 2021. And tonight, against Real Madrid at home in the Champions League, we scored two in 13 minutes.

"It's another step in the right direction as a team. We have to make another one and replicate what we've done tonight."

Declan Rice stunned Real Madrid with two brilliant free kicks - the first scored in his career - as Arsenal took a commanding 3-0 first leg lead in their Champions League quarter-final.

Mikel Arteta had asked the Arsenal fans to arrive early to create an impressive atmosphere inside the stadium, and the team responded by starting the game quickly with a number of dangerous crosses into the Madrid penalty area.

It took until the 20th minute for Madrid to have their first real chance, when Vinicius Jr curled an effort wide. But Rice took control of the tie for Arsenal in the second half.

The Gunners were the better side all evening and took the lead in the 58th minute, when Rice curled the first of two excellent free-kicks round the Real Madrid wall into the corner of the net past Thibaut Courtois.

Rice scored his second of the night with a free-kick of equal quality 12 minutes later, bending another long-range effort into the top right-hand corner to leave Madrid stunned.

Mikel Merino then made sure it was a memorable night for Arsenal when he curled a shot into the bottom corner from inside the area just five minutes later. Things only got worse for Madrid when Eduardo Camavinga was sent off in stoppage time for picking up a second yellow card.

Arsenal have not reached the semi-finals stage of the Champions League since the 2008-09 season, but they have given themselves a huge chance of progressing to the last four with this result.
