The last time we were at St George's Park was to hear Sarina Wiegman's squad selection for Euro 2025.

That week, she had to face questions over the international retirements of Mary Earps and Fran Kirby, as well as the shock withdrawal from selection by Millie Bright.

She will be relieved, I'm sure, to be reflecting on happier matters this time around as she meets the media again off the back of their Euro 2025 success.

She will also be able to reflect on the hugely successful career of Bright - who confirmed she has played her last game in an England shirt yesterday afternoon.

It's been a busy few months for the Lionesses since their Euro 2025 success as the Women's Super League season restarted in September, before the Women's Champions League main phase began.

US-based players Jess Carter, Esme Morgan and Anna Moorhouse all started league matches for Gotham FC, Washington Spirit and Orlando Pride respectively just a week after the final.

Five Lionesses made the top 10 at the Ballon d'Or awards last month, including striker Alessia Russo, who finished third in the rankings.

Among those joining Russo in the top 10 for the main prize was Chloe Kelly (fifth), Leah Williamson (seventh), Lucy Bronze (ninth) and Hannah Hampton (10th).

Wiegman was named women's coach of the year, while Hampton collected the Yashin Trophy for best female goalkeeper.

Striker Michelle Agyemang, who scored vital goals in the Euro 2025 quarter-final and semi-final victories, was nominated for the Kopa Trophy to celebrate the best young player, but that went to Spain winger Vicky Lopez.

There will be plenty of reaction to Millie Bright's international retirement at St George's Park today.

But there is also intrigue to see what squad Sarina Wiegman will name for the first time after Euro 2025.

There are several key players out injured - captain Leah Williamson and forwards Lauren Hemp and Lauren James among them - meaning there could be an opportunity for fresh faces.

Arsenal defender Katie Reid has been particularly impressive so far in the WSL so will she get a call-up with Williamson and Bright not involved?

And Lucy Bronze has recovered in the nick of time from her fractured tibia but only played a few minutes in stoppage time on Sunday. Will she still get called up?

Bright started every game as England won their first major women's trophy at Euro 2022, and captained them to the World Cup final a year later, which they lost to Spain.

Bright's final game for the Lionesses was a 3-2 defeat by Belgium in April.

England manager Wiegman said: "Millie will forever be an England legend for what she has given to her country, and I could never have enough words to praise her impact during my time."

Wiegman is likely to be asked further questions about Bright's retirement on Tuesday after she names her first England squad since the Lionesses retained their title.

Yesterday, England defender Millie Bright announced her retirement from international football.

The 32-year-old, who was part of England's European Championship-winning team in 2022, made her senior debut in September 2016 and went on to win 88 caps.

"I've been weighing this up for a long time," Chelsea captain Bright said on Monday's 'The Rest is Football: Daly Brightness' podcast.

"It's one of those decisions no-one can make for you. It's a feeling and I'm at peace with it."

Bright missed out as England defended their Euros title in Switzerland in July after ruling herself out of the tournament because she would be unable to "give 100% mentally or physically".

Over the summer she had successful knee surgery and started counselling sessions, while she said the decision to withdraw from Sarina Wiegman's squad was "by far the best decision I have ever made".

"Having the summer to reflect, fix my knee and get my head straight really put things into perspective. As you get older your priorities change. I've been craving family time, time with friends and time for myself," Bright said.
