  3. Carsley to keep attacking mindset after eight-goal thrillerpublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March

    England Under-21s v Portugal Under-21s (19:45 GMT)

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley has vowed to keep attacking after their eight-goal thriller with France.

The Young Lions lost 5-3 in Lorient on Friday, with Harvey Elliott also missing a penalty, and host Portugal in another friendly at The Hawthorns this evening.

The reigning champions are preparing for the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia this summer, where they face the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia in Group B.

Despite conceding five against France, Carsley - who experiment with three at the back - will not ask his players to rein in their attacking instincts.

"No, definitely not. We want to try and encourage this generation of players to go and win games," he said, back as Under-21 manager after his stint as interim senior boss.

"It was a great game (against France), it was a really good game, it was a really exciting game, it was an attacking game.

"We tried a different system, we wanted to try something different, we needed to give us a few options for potentially what we do in the summer with the amount of high-level centre-backs we've got, the chance maybe of playing a three at the back.

"So it was good for us to see how that might work and where the 10s and the 8s fit into that as well."

Misread that as what are your top three Robs?

De Niro, Marley and Lewandowski for me.

Wait, no, we're going off topic.

The England Under-21s are also in action tonight...

Interesting comments from Rob, and then Rob. Regarding Ben White, no one really knows what happened so it's difficult to make a judgement about him or why he chose to leave. 2nd Rob what are your top 3 RBs? And does that list change according to the opponent?

After a very dull morning, the sun has finally come out at Wembley.

There are plenty of people milling around on Wembley Way (officially Olympic Way), but the best part of 80,000 fans will be making their way to the stadium later.

Will Thomas Tuchel's men impress against Latvia? You can hear the game live on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds and here on the BBC Sport website and app from 19:45 GMT.

Latvia and Andorra home and away are a massive opportunity to experiment. Why on earth would we put Foden on the pitch?! We already know what he can do and we don't need it here. I know we can't be complacent... but Latvia are 140 in the world rankings... our Under 21's side would beat them.

I'm English and my wife is Latvian. We're going to Wembley together tonight. I've been telling my wife that I hope Latvia make it competitive. Deep down I hope England out do the women's team performance in 2021 (they won 20-0 at home and 10-0 away).

  14. Latvia look to make historypublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March

England v Latvia (Monday, 19:45 GMT)

After starting their World Cup qualifier campaign off with a win, Latvia will be hoping to make history in 2026.

They have never qualified for the World Cup, and they've only been to one major tournament - 2004 European Championships in Portugal.

Latvia finished at the bottom of the group of their group at the 2004 Euros and failed to win any of they group games, but they did hold out to a draw against Germany giving them a single point.

Dan Burn is having the time of his life so he surely plays again to keep him on the crest of a wave. I'd expect James to come in at right back as well. I think Foden plays again - it is Latvia after all. Rogers deserves longer minutes. That's all what I think but Sami Mokbel might suggest otherwise later today!

Time for some more Latvian football trivia. There's been four Latvian players to play in the Premier League, they are:

    • Marian Pahars -Southampton 1999-2006
    • Igor Stepanovs - Arsenal 2000-2004
    • Andrejs Stolcers - Fulham 2000-2004
    • Kaspars Gorkss - Queens Park Rangers 2008-2011

Pahars was the first Latvian to score in the top-flight in England, while Stepanovs is the only Latvian to win major silverware in England lifting the Premier League and FA Cup with Arsenal.
