Notts County were unable to make their pressure count as they were held to a goalless draw by Newport County.
Lewis Macari headed against the post from a Matt Palmer cross early on in the second half, while David McGoldrick and Sam Austin also went close to scoring for the Magpies.
But Nelson Jardim's side defended resolutely to keep a fifth league clean sheet of the season which ensured they left Meadow Lane with a point.
Despite now being winless in three League Two matches, Notts County rose to second in the table.
Newport are 16th on 21 points from 17 games - albeit before Saturday’s 15:00 GMT kick-offs.
Post-match reaction
Notts County boss Stuart Maynard told BBC Radio Nottingham:
"I think we performed very well, right to the final third, but we just lacked end product.
"The group know it, it's frustrating for all of us, but it's another point on the board and a clean sheet.
"We tried to get as many goals as we have on the pitch for the last 20 minutes. It's one of those games that we have to score because we had that much domination and efforts on goal."
Newport County boss Nelson Jardim told BBC Radio Wales:
"I think it's a good point, coming up to this place against one of the teams that will be challenging for promotion, I have no doubts about that.
"For us, going through a little bit of difficulties with injuries and suspensions, but we have to focus not only on this point, but mainly the performance.
"On that side, I think we did well, I think we had a very good game, with a lot of changes. Overall a good point away, but there's a lot more to come in terms of the intensity of the games we're going to face now."
