At 14:59 GMT on Saturday, Falkirk looked in very good shape for successive promotions. Come 16:59, it was a different story.

The 1-0 defeat by Livingston reduced the Bairns' advantage at the top of the Scottish Championship to three points and the promotion race as a result looks much more open.

"We're still in a really, really good position," said manager John McGlynn after their second league defeat of the season.

"We wouldn't have anticipated being at the top of the league here on 16 November. We would've taken this."

Speaking before the Livingston game, former Hearts and Raith Rovers boss McGlynn said he was "as content as I've ever been here at Falkirk" and emphasised he wanted to take them into the Premiership.

"We'd need to recruit a few players but I think the squad we've got would equip themselves very well."

It's not just Livi that McGlynn needs to worry about. Ayr United are four points off Livingston and seven behind the leaders with 22 games to go.

The chances of Partick Thistle - nine points behind - and Queen's Park, a further point back, propelling themselves into a title race may seem remote, but victory for the latter on Friday could have a similar effect to Falkirk's Saturday loss in West Lothian.

Callum Davidson's Spiders lost 3-2 at Ayr United on Saturday, having trailed 3-0 at one stage.

"You go into every game in this league thinking you can win them but maybe after half an hour think you can lose them as well," Davidson said afterwards.

"It's enjoyable that way. We just need to perform better. We just need to ask more questions going forward.

"They've been on a fantastic run of form. Falkirk are a fantastic team."

Just what questions Queen's Park ask of Falkirk at Hampden can be followed on BBC Scotland, iPlayer and the BBC Sport website from 19:30 (kick-off 19:45) on Friday, with the Bairns able to restore their six-point advantage at the top of the division at least until Saturday evening.

It will be the second time in the league this season Falkirk and Queen's Park have met in front of the BBC cameras, with McGlynn's side edging a tight 2-1 win on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Livi are away to struggling bottom side Airdrieonians, while Ayr are at home to second bottom Dunfermline Athletic.

Elsewhere, Partick Thistle visit Greenock Morton and Hamilton Academical host Raith Rovers with all of Saturday's fixtures kicking off at 15:00.
