  1. Clean sheets 'show we are solid'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Fulham v West Ham (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Fulham

On Wednesday's 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Fulham boss Marco Silva said: "We were confident before the match. We were in a good moment and we're growing as a team.

"The best feeling from the game, apart from the three points, was the clean sheet. It shows we are solid as a team."

  2. Fulham team newspublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Fulham v West Ham (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's home game against West Ham.

He started by giving an update on the squad's fitness: "Adama Traore and Rodrigo Muniz are much closer to returning.

"After tomorrow’s session, I’ll take a decision on them both."

  3. Palace team newspublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Giving a fitness update on left-back Tyrick Mitchell, Roy Hodgson said: "He is injured, so he is another one that we have lost that we’re ill-equipped to lose at this moment in time.

"[Cheick] Doucoure and [Ebere] Eze are also still out of the team.

"You can add, of course, Rob Holding and Jes [Rak-Sakyi] to that. But our injury list isn’t enormously long, it’s just that three of the players we are missing are three regular players in the team.

"Mitchell, Doucoure and Eze are three that always play, and in the sort of team we are and the squad we have, to lose three of our regulars hits us maybe a bit harder than some of the other teams in the league.

"It was a hip injury. This game was definitely too quick coming around for him to be considered, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t be considered for the next game."

  4. Fans are the 'bonus' when 'fragile'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

On playing Liverpool tomorrow, Roy Hodgson said: "We’re certainly going to need the fans against Liverpool.

"One of our hopes is that we’ll give them a good game because we'll have our fan base getting behind the team.

"Sometimes away from home it’s quite incredible. If you have that then it’s the bonus you need when you’re fragile and not on form."

  5. 'I bitterly regret my words'published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Crystal Palace

Over to a contrite Roy Hodgson now, speaking about his regret of calling Crystal Palace fans "spoilt" after their defeat to Bournemouth. He said: "I am distressed by my comments and choice of word which I bitterly regret. I think the fans have been very patient during this bad spell and they've not been spoilt.

"I can understand their frustration so I owe them an apology because they’ve been so good to me during my five years at the club. I would be devastated if they didn’t think I appreciated them.

"Everyone came to the game thinking we’d get some points on the board, so to have that hope taken away by a combination of things is hard. We didn’t play nearly as close as we wanted to do. But it’s gone now and we have to get over it."

  6. McTominay 'has a good smell in the box' - Ten Hagpublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

A final word from Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on Wednesday's match winner Scott McTominay, who scored twice in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea: "From the first moment, I saw he has a very good smell in the box. He is a very good finisher. That is not a surprise to us. The way we want to play him in the position so we can get the balls in there, [we know] he will finish."

  7. 'Shaw is a high-profile player'published at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on the influence fit-again defender Luke Shaw has on the team: "He is a player who allows others to build around him. He gives belief and confidence to other players. They know he will deal with difficult situations, set up [attacks] and take the initiative to create.

"He has presence, personality and also has a skill set. He brings physicality, he's strong and also technically very good.

"He's a high-profile player and we are happy he is back in."

  8. I am sure he will get it back - Ten Hag on Rashford formpublished at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on whether Marcus Rashford will return to the starting line-up: "Rashford is an incredibly good player. You can't do it with XI players and he can't play in every game. He is not in the form he was last year, but I am sure he will get back."

On what Rashford needs to do: "I said the same thing about Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, it is up to them. Every week, the team will line up in training and the best players will form the best team and they will play."

  9. 'We have to be 100% ready'published at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on his side's form: "We know the direction we are heading. We are in a better place in better form, you can see the performances are improving. But we know this league is very competitive. Everyone is killing everyone in every game, so we know we have to be ready for every game."

On Saturday's opponents Bournemouth: "I think they also have very good form, Bournemouth. They are a very good side, well structured with capable players. As I said, everyone is killing everyone, so we have to be 100% ready as a team for that game and that is what we have to do."

  10. Postpublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

We told you earlier that Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for November. That announcement was quickly followed by confirmation that Erik ten Hag had been named Manger of the Month.

It's a strange one - United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home to Newcastle at the start of November, and also suffered some damaging results against FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray in the Champions League.

But in the league, Ten Hag's side had wins against Fulham, Luton and Everton without conceding a goal.

The Manchester United manager was also keen to point out in his news conference that Alejandro Garnacho earned the Goal of the Month award for his overhead kick against Everton.

As a left footed 10-year-old Evertonian in 1983, my hero was, and still is, Kevin Sheedy. The best crosser and free kick taker we've ever had, in the best team we've ever had. No one comes close to "Sheeds"

    Chris - Liverpool

My footballing hero was Stuart Pearce. He had an unrivalled passion, bravery and commitment. I loved watching him score thunderbolt free kicks, and that penalty in Euro 96.

  12. Everton game will be 'really tough' - Pochettinopublished at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Everton v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino on Sean Dyche's Everton side: "It’s going to be really tough, but they were doing fantastic this season and that [10 point deduction] happened. I know Sean Dyche very well and I always admire him because of what he achieved with Burnley. Yes, it’s going to be tough because the feeling is that this [point deduction] is unfair and they were treated unfair. That is the feeling they have and of course when you feel like this, you feel freedom and have nothing to lose.

"They have good players and Sean is doing a great job and it’s going to be tough after last night. Massive victory for them against Newcastle, 3-0 and I think they’ll be motivated to face us but every game is different but we need to be ready to compete better than we have done in the last game.

"It’s a different style, they can play in different ways. Dyche's football is really aggressive, it's brave. We're going to find a team that’s going to press high and be aggressive and can build from the back and also play direct and it’s going to be interesting because they’re going to be a massive challenge for us."

  13. 'We are building something that will pay off'published at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Everton v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

    Mauricio PochettinoImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino on whether his role at Chelsea is a harder job: "No, it’s a different position for sure but we knew when we accepted this offer that it’s going to be tough. We are going to challenge [for top four], yes. Maybe not now but for sure in the future. Who knows? [when asked how far in the future]. I hope it’s as soon as possible but for sure, we are going to challenge the top four, yes.

On players developing: "I think we need to give the players time, there's a lot of players that have arrived. Now is not only to bring a player for eight years, it's to work with them and try to put it all in context and create a dynamic. Now the most important thing is to create a platform where they find their place and feel they belong to this group and the team and the club.

"We know what we need to do, we know what we are doing, it’s just a matter of time. Sometimes that’s six months or maybe one year but we will arrive at the situation because we are building something that will pay off."

  14. 'We can't complain and have to face the reality'published at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Everton v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is getting involved in the Friday news conference festival now. He's been talking about the injuries to his team: "I think we are trying to optimise the players we have and then we need to be calm because when you suffering these types of things it's about being calm. I am disappointed because I think we wanted to win against Manchester United and I think we were close. Of course they started really good, they showed more energy than us game. They were more clinical. It’s about dealing with the situation, we can't complain and have to face the reality.

"It's a little thing that’s part of a component. It’s the composition of the squad, we need to find a good balance on the pitch and the inconsistency came from a different part of the team. The challenge was to settle everything and to behave like a team. For different circumstances we are a little late."

    Ludek MikloskoImage source, Getty Images

My football hero was big goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko, or as we called him at West Ham, Ludo. Brilliant shot stopper. The amount of times he kept us in games during the 90s, especially against Man Utd when we stopped them winning the league in 95. Also had one of the longest drop kicks I’ve ever seen, it went miles! A great goalkeeper and we still sing his name at West Ham today.

  16. 'I'm very happy for Saka'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Aston Villa v Arsenal (Sat, 17:30 GMT)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, who spoke highly of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, to whom he gave his professional debut: "They [Arsenal] have always had good players in their academy and Saka was one very good example.

"His development was because he had very good coaches in the academy and I helped him and he's developing a lot under Mikel Arteta.

"He's a very good player and he's a humble person, and I'm very happy for him as a player."

  17. Pep in thoughtful moodpublished at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Luton v Man City (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It was a fairly long Pep Guardiola press conference, with a couple of exceptionally long answers.

The Manchester City boss is clearly thinking a lot about his side, their form and why results have not been what he expected lately.

He did say City have played far worse and won over the past few years. He also pointed out that in Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa, his side have hardly dropped points against weak opposition.

In only one match - at Villa on Wednesday - did Guardiola think his side were beaten by a better opponent.

But Guardiola is thinking. It's not just the absence of Rodri, or the loss of Gundogan or the injuries to Mateo Kovacic.

He wants his players to understand why they have not been winning - and understand how much work it will take for them to start again.

  18. 'Maybe the exception was the past, this is the reality'published at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Luton Town v Man City (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on whether he is blocking out criticism following their third loss of the Premier League season, at Aston Villa on Wednesday, which extended their run to four league matches without a win: "The intention is not to block anything, when you are winning you are the best in the world, not winning it's a crisis. We know it.

"It's always exaggerated, the important thing is to face the reality, we're not used to four games without winning. We play four top teams, they are exceptional teams, difficult at SB, others too. It is what it is.

"It's not the first time we've been in this position. Every season we don't get results. Face it, challenge it. That is the situation, let's do it. Maybe the exception was the past, this is the reality. Go to Luton, a team who make really good things, impose our game and break their dynamic."

  19. 'The next two games are so important'published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2023

Luton Town v Man City (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Speaking about Manchester City's recent form, Pep Guardiola said: "We haven’t been getting the results. We have to play again to the level we were at two weeks ago.

"Aston Villa were better than us, so a good result on Sunday would help us. The next two games are so important before we go to Saudi Arabia and play that final.

"When you are winning games you’re the best team in the world and when you’re not, you’re not. What’s important is to face reality, we’ve been playing exceptional teams. It’s not the first time we’ve been in this position but we have to face the challenge. Let’s do it and go for it. Football is full of drama."

My footballing hero without doubt growing up was Ian Wright. As a young black boy growing up in London he was an inspiration for many of my peers in my generation and those slightly older than me. He was an excellent player, very charismatic and without doubt is the sole reason why I became an Arsenal fan and still am today.
