Trincao stars as Sporting thrash Kairat
Francisco Trincao scored two stunning goals as Sporting beat Champions League debutants Kairat Almaty 4-1 in Lisbon.
After struggling to find a way through Kairat's defence, Trincao broke the deadlock just before half-time when he latched on to the ball on the edge of the box and rifled it into the top-right corner.
The Kazakh club were the stronger side after the restart, but their hard work was undone as the hosts surged and scored three goals in three minutes.
Trincao doubled the hosts' lead with another terrific strike before Alisson Santos' low shot was deflected over 18-year-old goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza, who had saved Morten Hjulmand's penalty in the first half.
Geovany Quenda added Sporting's fourth goal moments later as he waltzed brilliantly through Kairat's defence before slotting past Kalmurza.
But Kairat had the last say as Brazilian Edmilson struck home a volley in the 86th minute to give the club its first ever Champions League goal.
The game offered glimpses of what Chelsea's team could look like next season with 17-year-olds Quenda and Dastan Satpaev, who will both join the Blues in the summer of 2026, impressing for their respective sides.
Satpaev came closest for Kairat with a blistering long-range strike that forced Joao Virginia into a fine fingertip save.
