If Toney goes into the game with the mentality that it's the be-all and end-all, then he's screwed.

There's a lot of gametime between no and the end of the season.

Anthony Gordon got his start [against Brazil] not because of what he's done in the past with England's under-21s, but because of the form he's shown at Newcastle.

Even if he had an average game the other night and then had a stormer for the rest of the season with Newcastle, he'd still have a chance of going to the Euros.

That has to be the mentality for Toney coming in. 'Yes, I want to do well and yes, I want to score', but ultimately I've got eight or nine games for my club this season to force my way on to that plane.

Harry Kane has gone back to Germany [with an injury], back to Bayern Munich.

Remarkably, it's the first time since 2017 when the England squad have been together without the presence of Harry Kane.

This is a potential turning of the page and what we might see post-Kane.

I've not really seen the Ollie Watkins in an England shirt that I've seen for Aston Villa this season.

England will play without names on the back of their shirts during the second half, with the match dedicated as an Alzheimer's Society International as part of the Football Association's partnership with the charity.

The aim is to draw "attention to how people with dementia lose precious memories, even the names of their favourite football players".

It is the second time England have done so, after the 2-1 win against Switzerland at Wembley in March 2022.

At Monday's news conference, Gareth Southgate confirmed Jude Bellingham is fit after cramp forced him off against Brazil on Saturday, while forwards Cole Palmer and Ivan Toney, midfielder James Maddison and defender Jarrad Branthwaite will also come into contention.

Toney received his first England call-up since serving an eight-month suspension for breaching FA betting rules, and the Brentford striker will play for the first time since his debut exactly a year ago.

"Ivan will be involved in the game for sure," Southgate added. "I have to say, with everything that's happened, the original idea or plan for the week is a little bit different.

"We're probably finding out about more players but that's really helpful. To see all those players against high-level opposition will help us make better decisions moving forward."

England boss Gareth Southgate has had to contend with numerous injury problems during the March international break.

Alongside Harry Kane and Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and Sam Johnstone are both out of Tuesday's match while the likes of Bukayo Saka, Luke Shaw and Trent Alexander-Alexander Arnold are also among the absentees.

While that means others will be given their chance to stake their claim for this summer's Euros in Germany, it is far from an ideal set of circumstances for the England boss.

"It is an incredible number who are unavailable to us," Southgate said. "I haven't experienced that before, but it means there are opportunities for other people.

"You can't worry about what we haven't got. You've got to move forward. There's a lot of different reasons for those injuries."

It is almost exactly five years since Declan Rice made his England debut against the Czech Republic, having switched his international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland for whom he appeared on three occasions.

During that time he has helped England reach the final of the 2020 European Championship and the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

"I have grown so much as a player and person since I first came into the group," he added.

"As time has gone on I've played more big games, more games at major tournaments. I have enjoyed every moment."

Declan Rice says it will be a "pinch me" moment as he captains England on his 50th appearance in Tuesday night's friendly against Belgium at Wembley.

The 25-year-old Arsenal midfielder has become a key figure for the Three Lions since making his debut in 2019.

He takes the captain's armband, with Harry Kane and Kyle Walker out injured.

"On my 50th cap, to walk out at Wembley in front of my family and friends, it is a great honour - I'm a bit speechless," Rice said.

"It is a pinch-me moment, it will be an honour. I was absolutely lost for words when [manager Gareth Southgate] said to me I was going to be captain."

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is set to start for England tonight against Belgium at Wembley.

The 18-year-old made his debut against Brazil on Saturday and looked comfortable in possession.

England have limited options in the deeper midfield areas and Gareth Southgate has referenced that when speaking to the media this week.

Ivan Toney is also expected to get his chance to impress from the start tonight too. Toney was an unused substitute for the match against Brazil but looks set to have his chance to show he should be on the plane when England head to Germany this summer.

Nottingham Forest have lodged an appeal against their four-point deduction for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules, the club has confirmed.

An independent commission found Forest's losses to 2022-23 breached the threshold of £61m by £34.5m.

The loss of points has placed Forest into the relegation zone in 18th place, one point behind Luton Town.

Forest said in a statement, external they would not be making any further comment.

They are the second top-flight team to be penalised for PSR breaches after Everton lost 10 points in November, which was reduced to six on appeal.

Last week, Forest said they were "extremely disappointed" with the decision, which they said "raises issues of concern for all aspirant clubs".

Premier League clubs can lose £105m over three seasons - £35m per campaign - but Forest's maximum loss was only permitted to be £61m because they spent two years of the assessment period in the Championship.

Forest were set to be hit with a six-point deduction - three points for the initial breach and a further three for the size of the breach - but their "early plea" and "cooperation" meant that was reduced to four points.

As an ex keeper, I wouldn't wear match gloves to walk onto the pitch. (I'd wear old thin ones to warm up in) I'd carry match ones in a little bag and put them on in the last seconds before k.o. One particular week I finished warm up and ref got our attention to start the game, I opened my glove bag to see I'd been pranked with bright pink woolly gloves and had to stop the game to go grab mine.

England manager Sarina Wiegman on the new kit: "There have been a lot of discussions about that. I think the kit is beautiful.

"There are some new things in the kit that should help performance-wise."

England v Sweden (Fri, 5 April)

    England

England manager Sarina Wiegman on whether there are plans for a three-week camp in the summer: "There are five weeks, we want to give them some rest.

"We're still talking with clubs. It's not a full three weeks but it's similar to what we did before the last Euros and the World Cup.

"The clubs are not angry with us [about those plans] and we are not angry with the clubs."

England v Sweden (Fri, 5 April)

    England

England manager Sarina Wiegman on players and coaches being in relationships: "They are very inappropriate. It's not healthy.

"In our environment, it's professional and should always be about performing and being safe. We should be very aware of that. It is common sense. We are in an environment where it's inappropriate.

"When it happens too often you need regulations so we leave that to others. I always talk about safe environments and make sure everyone is aware of the responsibility."

  16. Wiegman 'surprised' by Arsenal end of season tourpublished at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March

England v Sweden (Fri, 5 April)

    England

England manager Sarina Wiegman on Arsenal's plans to travel to Australia for a post-season tour: "We've talked about the calendar a lot. There's a lot of congestion. We've had talks with the clubs and we were surprised by that trip.

"Most competitions finish at the end of May and there's one week in between then we go to the international break. With an already complicated calendar it's not good to go to the other side of the world. That's not just for the English players but for every player that goes into the qualifiers. It will be hard for them to take.

"We had a conversation with Arsenal about the summer and we're on the same page to try and get players fit but also keep them fresh.

"I'm in contact with Jonas [Eidevall] all the time and we spoke about these concerns. They haven't announced who would go yet. We have to make sure players get time off.

"In the calendar we need some rest for the players to allow them to decompress. In the future I hope that can happen.

"We have really competitive games but we need to build in the chance for recovery time."

    England

England manager Sarina Wiegman on today's meeting between Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer to hear about plans to grow women's football after Karen Carney's report last year: "There are many discussions about this. There are lots of things to talk about.

"The game is growing really quickly but I hope the technical part grows with the commercial part. If ones grows quicker it might not be good for the game.

"When important decisions are made the right people need to be in the room. It will all come back to the pitch and be beneficial for the players."

England manager Sarina Wiegman on Jess Park: "She's doing well and enjoying her game. She plays with joy and freedom.

"She's had a lot of patience, she went to Everton, got some minutes and came back. I think she is doing a good job.

"We see many players in her position that are doing a good job and that's good for the team."

England v Sweden (Fri, 5 April)

    England

England manager Sarina Wiegman on Leah Williamson back in the squad: "I'm very happy [she's back]. The squad looks good.

"Unfortunately Millie [Bright] is not available but Leah is and I'm looking forward to working with her again.

"She [Williamson] recovered really well and it didn't take too long and now she's getting into a rhythm. She hasn't played many games but she is getting there."

On Millie Bright missing out: "We're a bit disappointed. She's taking her time and doing the right thing to avoid setbacks.

"She needs to do more work in the gym to get stronger and that takes time. Emma Hayes said she should be back after the international break."

  20. Squad recappublished at 11:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March

Wiegman is facing the press now but we wait for updates and so here is a reminder of the squad news this morning:

Leah Williamson is in the England squad for Euro 2025 qualifiers against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland and could earn a first cap since last April.

The centre-back, 26, made her Arsenal comeback in January after nine months out with an anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) injury.

She was called up by England for friendlies against Austria and Italy in February but withdrew through injury.

Defender Millie Turner is also included after replacing Williamson in February.
