1. Can Liverpool still win Europa League?published at 09:30 British Summer Time 12 April

We asked at 7:44 if you think Liverpool's hopes of winning the Europa League this season are over.

About 75% of you think the Reds can not forget about saying farewell to Jurgen Klopp with a treble - they most focus on trying to add the Premier League title to the League Cup they have already won this season.

But feel free to keep letting us know. Hit thumbs up if you think the Europa League's gone, thumbs down if the Reds still have a chance.

As much as you want to put this game to bed, you have got to go there next week and try to win the game 4-0 now. That is a big, big ask for any team to do. If it had been the other way round and it had been at Atalanta, you'd back them to overturn it at Anfield.

I find it very difficult to see them overturning this now. I know anything can happen in football, but Liverpool were way off it.

Ben: @Mike 7.30 - how great Liverpool are is that most people still think they will win the tie, including me, and I'm definitely not a Liverpool fan. 3-0 down at half-time is nothing for that team.

Lauren Black, Liverpool fan who was at Anfield last night: "It's our worst performance for a long time.

"We've relied a lot on our second-half performance, but we didn't even turn up in the second half either. We just kind of ran out of ideas really - we didn't know what to do or where to go.

"[Atalanta] brought the game to us, they capitalised on our mistakes."

Watched the Liverpool game last night. From the off you could tell they were going to get nothing from the game. Slow, no energy, complacency. I expected VVD to be kicking some backsides out there but he seemed uninterested, especially in first half. It looked like Liverpool thought all they had to do was put a team out and they'd stroll it. Now it's a massive task to win the tie. Very poor, considering the players keep saying they'll give everything to win it for Klopp.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to TNT Sports, said it was important not to over-react: "If you don't believe, there's no point going to Italy.

"We have made it very hard for ourselves going there 3-0 down. But the way to bounce back is by winning the game on the weekend [against Crystal Palace].

"We need everyone to switch it back on. Then we can focus on putting out at least four goals over there."

  9. Was this Klopp's last European night at Anfield?published at 08:55 British Summer Time 12 April

Liverpool's hopes of giving Jurgen Klopp a dream send-off in the Europa League final in Dublin next month are hanging by a thread.

The Reds boss has announced he is leaving the club at the end of the season and his players were keen to extend the season to 22 May when the final of Europe's second-tier competition takes place.

A shock 3-0 home defeat by Atalanta in the quarter-final first leg means that looks an unlikely scenario as it stands.

Klopp, who has steered Liverpool to three Champions League finals - winning it in 2019 - looked bewildered at the final whistle and applauded fans as he disappeared down the tunnel.

But was this his final European game at Anfield after Liverpool suffered their first home defeat since losing 5-2 to Real Madrid in the Champions League in February 2023, ending their 33-game unbeaten run?

Good morning. Congratulations to Atalanta for superbly executing their coaches tactical masterplan. Starting a quarter final with your 3rd choice left and right backs, a midfielder who has hardly played, a left winger who's a no 9 or 10 and a right winger who's a midfielder, a team selection, bereft of imagination, technically and tactically naive and arrogant, you get what you deserve. It's hardly surprising reliable recent performers, VVD, Endo and Macca had 'stinkers' also. Implosion looms, unless victories over Palace and in Italy give confidence for a genuinely difficult 8 days on the road at Ful, Eve and WHU.

  12. 'Arguably the worst I've seen Liverpool under Klopp'published at 08:41 British Summer Time 12 April

    Liverpool 0-3 Atalanta

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

[Atalanta] dominated Liverpool. They created so many chances. Liverpool were poor. They were arguably the worst I have ever seen them [under Jurgen Klopp].

Wasteful in possession. So many mistakes all over the pitch but they looked tired. They looked like a team that has played 56 games in a season and you could just see tired minds and tired bodies. But take nothing away from Atalanta. They were magnificent.

It was one of the best opposition performances I have seen at Anfield. I have been to some European nights and seen Liverpool outdone by opposition teams. That was hugely impressive.

To come here and play the way they did and take the game to them, it's outstanding.

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock was forthright in just how bad last night's performance and result was for Jurgen Klopp's side.

But what are your thoughts? Is that Liverpool's hope of a treble gone? Or can they pull off a miraculous turnaround in next week's second leg? Heck, they've done it before!!

We deserved to lose - Klopp

Now let's hear from the man himself, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who admitted that his side deserved to lose to Atalanta in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

"We can make this the shortest press conference of all-time, it just was a really bad game," he said.

"We started really well and didn’t continue. We lost the plot a little bit, like we were everywhere and nowhere. Midfield was spread. I didn’t recognise that, that was really quite strange. In football terms, that’s tactical discipline.

"We had a big chance from Darwin [Nunez] and were unlucky with Harvey [Elliott]. Then they scored a goal and we kept playing into their hands. We played a bad game, we deserved to lose. Congratulations Atalanta.

"We must feel bad about that but the boys have exactly this night to feel bad and then we have the Crystal Palace game [on Sunday]."

It wasn't a surprise result at Anfield last night. When you underestimate and disrespect a team, more often than not, a loss is on the cards. Atalanta are a very good footballing team and would be higher in Serie A if they didn't have to sell their best players each year. I'm not a fan of Europa due to days played but this far in I'd thought we'd go for it, especially at home. Jurgen protecting his players, saying it's all him. Too right it is Jurgen.
