The big result came at Etihad Stadium earlier, where Chelsea came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1.

Chelsea are eight points clear at the top, City are seven adrift of the Champions League qualification places..

It also means Manchester United have a significant cushion in third place. At the other end of the table, Aston Villa are just one point clear of the drop.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Natalia Arroyo, speaking to Sky Sports: "A very bad result. We didn't have a good first half and they are the kind of team that destroys you when you are not defending properly. They don't need 100 chances to score. It was quite difficult for us in the second half with 3-0. Even being a very tough result, we get positive things like the fact we still tried to be in the game and compete in the second half.

On whether the team is short of confidence: "100%. My second half, my wish is we take that bravery with this 'nothing to lose' [attitude] we created more, had the ball more, were more aggressive in defence. I think we are still a bit scared sometimes, a bit paralysed. This is an emotional game and we are not managing it properly. We need to change that 100%."

On how hard it is for her at the moment: "I don't have any problem about my mistakes or if I'm not helping them, today it wasn't tactics it has to do with them trusting themselves and believing in their possibilities and they are doubting the skills that they have and how good they can be. It's not the best for me to encourage them to press high, to have the ball and attract them and play through them. We tried to be more simple in the weeks before to and be more direct and it wasn't working. Probably now is time to accept our limitations and our low emotions and low confidence level while still being brave. I'm proud of the second half, most of the good things."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner, speaking to Sky Sports, on how Celin Bizet is doing: "I don't know. Danielle Turner is a fantastic person and she first went in there and tried to see how Celin was so she know it wasn't a good tackle. I hope she's not too bad. I will absolutely vouch for Dan Turner as a person.

"It [his reaction] was more about the concern for Celin because she was in pain. I want to be very calm in the way I deliver the information but you kind of see the reaction of a player and if she has to come off it kind of tells you. I've calmed down a lot, it wasn't at Dan Turner as an individual but just in the moment as Celin didn't deserve that.

On whether it was a clear red card: "I believe so. It's not my judge that but I felt at the time it's a clear red card."

On how he reflects on the weekend as a whole: "It puts space between us and City, space between us and Chelsea. The most important games are Everton and West Ham because they're in great form themselves. All we can keep doing is picking up three points, clean sheets and trying to score as many as possible."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Marc Skinner, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was the best way to respond. We weren't good enough last week in terms of the end product and today we were ruthless. I'm really happy with the way that all of the players did it on the field.

On his side's crossing today: "You watch for how to deliver and they're just asking [Terland] as good as she is, to finish them. Against Liverpool we didn't ask our forward to deliver, we made them work. I'm really proud of the effort, the energy, the commitment. That's just us, that's who we are. That's an incredible result."

On Jayde Riviere's performance: "I've said it before, I think she can be one of the best right backs in the world. That's why we signed her a long time ago, to show that quality. She's still got a lot to learn but I'm hoping she continues to do that. She can get loads of assists and I want to see some goals from her as well."

On Grace Clinton's goal: "Grace does things that others can't, Tooney's the same. You need that individual quality. I thought Grace was really mature today and is growing every week. More importantly today, I thought an unsung hero you probably didn't see was Hinata. She controlled the pitch and calms everyone down. Millie Turner stood up and was counted in this game."

Manchester United have taken advantage of Manchester City's defeat by Chelsea and are now seven points safe inside the European qualification places with five games left to play.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are perilously close to relegation. They are just one point clear of bottom-placed Crystal Palace.

They need to get points on the board soon if they are to retain their WSL status.

I've really struggled to understand what Aston Villa are trying to do.

The players look lost.

In this league you have to make the opponent work really hard for the victory but Villa have not done that to Man United.

Celin Bizet has assisted six goals in the Women's Super League this season (one in this game), no player has more.

I feel for the players right now and I don't want to be too harsh because I don't know what the root of the problems are.

They're in this situation for a reason, the table doesn't lie.

The manager has got to find the right words very carefully to motivate this team and get them on track, because it could end up being a slippery slope for this football club.
