  4. 'Arsenal need to make pitch wide'published at 18:49 BST

All Arsenal's threat has come from Noni Madueke and naturally when that happens the whole team shift. And Eberechi Eze at the edge of that is going to tuck in. But in possession they're better off if they're splitting and making the pitch really wide.

That's where the threat has been for Arsenal.

Real Madrid v Marseille (20:00 BST)

The big team news for Real Madrid tonight is that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given the nod to start at right-back ahead of Dani Carvajal.

Jude Bellingham is on the bench after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer. Bellingham has not played since 9 July.

Arsenal are so slow in everything they do. We have so much firepower upfront. I honestly don't get Arteta's philosophy anymore. We destroy teams when we are on the front foot so why play with the handbrake on all the time? It's beyond frustrating, just a few games in I know but the trend is clear for all to see.

  8. More to come for Arsenal?published at 18:43 BST

    HT: Athletic Club 0-0 Arsenal

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at San Mames

Without having a huge attacking threat, Arsenal have looked comfortable in this first half. Athletic Club had the better of the earlier exchanges, created maybe one or two opportunities but didn't really trouble David Raya's goal.

Athletic Club have looked the inferior opponents at time. Arsenal have looked strong and they're at their best when they play forward. Noni Madueke, for me, is the biggest threat. In Viktor Gyokeres they have a willing runner but he's not had enough service.

I think there's more to come for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will not be disappointed.

I’d take a point away in our first CL game. This is a tough opponent. It's just the usual ridiculous shenanigans of play-acting from the European sides that the referees aren’t doing anything to stamp out. We’ll nick it in the end.

Arsenal are not going to have it all their own way. Athletic Club are really robust defensively but Arsenal have been comfortable in their own defensive shape.

Thousands and thousands of Athletic Club fans, all wearing red and white shirts, are bouncing up and down on the spot.

Can the TV cameras just focus on them? Much more interesting than anything happening on the pitch.

Neither team wants to risk anything so far, very cautious from both sides, just hope both teams are not happy with a draw to start their campaigns.

Plenty of fireworks off the pitch in terms of the frenzied atmosphere in the stands. Sadly, very little in terms of fireworks on the pitch as half-time looms.

Tom: To Z @ 18:23 You need to show more respect to Bilbao. They're a very good team, at home, in Europe. Arsenal don't have the right to come in with a B-team and expect a win.

  18. Postpublished at 18:28 BST

    Athletic Club 0-0 Arsenal

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at San Mames

It's a game being played very much in the middle of the pitch. There's been few opportunities and we haven't spoken about either keeper much. That shows where the game's being played most of the time.
