Tonight will be Tottenham manager Thomas Frank's first time in the dugout for a Champions League match.

Frank's only previous experience of managing in European competition came in qualifying for the Europa League, winning just three of 10 matches with Brondby (D4 L3).

While his side endured a poor season last year under Ange Postecoglou, the silver lining was winning the Europa League and therefore earning a place in this season's Champions League.

An achievement that had nothing to do with Frank but he's the one reaping the rewards.

Under Frank, Spurs have three wins from four in the Premier League.

Qarabag of Azerbaijan return to the Champions League for the first time in eight years where they will face two-time winners Benfica.

The Portuguese side made it to the round of 16 last season but were beaten 4-1 over two legs by Barcelona.

It's hard to overlook Real Madrid when it comes to picking the Champions League winner but Los Blancos come into this campaign with Xabi Alonso at the helm.

Alonso's first European game as Real boss comes against Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille, who finished second in Ligue 1 last term.

Could be an entertaining watch.

Let's not underestimate the job that they've done. They played against the team with the best defensive record in La Liga last season. They were always going to be a hard team to beat at home.

The first half wasn't pretty but Arsenal dug in. The changes that they've made, the singings that they've made in the final third made the difference.

Noni Madueke was excellent the whole time down the right-hand side. Eberechi Eze never really got in the game and that forced the manager's hand. The substitutes came on and it was perfect time as the game opened up for them.

A really good start to the season for Arsenal.

Tottenham have had a really good start under Thomas Frank and it would be even better if they could get a win tonight. The fixtures they've got in the Champions League are pretty ok.

Tonight it is about getting a foothold in the competition, then they have got home fames against Copenhagen and Slavia Prague, teams where you would expect them to have too much quality.

It has been 923 days since Tottenham last played in a Champions League game - a meek goalless draw against AC Milan which resulted in a 1-0 aggregate defeat during the final few weeks of Antonio Conte's reign.

Spurs' squad has been drastically overhauled during the intervening two and a half years, with the club spending more than £300m on transfers under Ange Postecoglou and successor Thomas Frank.

Of the 11 players who began against Milan in 2023, only Cristian Romero - who was sent off against the Italians - is likely to start against Villarreal.

Ben Davies is still at the club but is yet to play this season, while Dejan Kulusevski is recovering from a long-term knee injury.

So, Arsenal off to a winning start in the Champions League.

Would Arsenal have won games like this a couple of seasons ago - or even last season?

They've hit Athletic Club where it hurts and the home fans, who have been noisy all game, are heading home disappointed.

The hosts managed to get a goal back but it won't take away from an excellent Champions League debut for Union Saint-Gilloise.

They went two ahead before the break in their first league phase game before Kevin Mac Allister added a third after the break.

The Belgians were better throughout, produced the best chances, could have scored more and absorbed pressure well at the back.

A commanding win to kick off their campaign.

That's all about Martinelli. Rice gives him the ball really early and he uses raw, aggressive pace to get by Gorosabel and once he does, he picks out Trossard.

You think Trossard is going to hit it earlier but he buys himself a bit of time and it comes off Vivian as it goes past the keeper. The substitutions have worked out perfectly for Arteta.
