Well, what an enthralling night of League One action its been.

Wrexham missed the chance to go second after losing 2-0 at Reading thanks to second-half strikes from Harvey Knibbs and Lewis Wing.

Birmingham City went 14 points clear at the top of the table following their 2-1 victory over Stevenage due to Kieran Dowell's first-half penalty and Paik Seung-ho's 47th-minute goal.

Bristol Rovers won by the odd goal in five in a topsy-turvy 3-2 win at home over play-off hopefuls Bolton, with Connor Taylor getting the 88th-minute winner at the Memorial Stadium.

Exeter helped their survival hopes with a 2-0 home win over Mansfield, and in-form Charlton held on to a 1-0 win at Crawley to go fourth.

Finally, draw-specialists Blackpool came from behind to beat Cambridge United 2-1, thanks in part to Sonny Carey's early second-half strike.

A massive missed opportunity for AFC Wimbledon. They knew they had a game in hand over Doncaster but they couldn't make the most of it to put themselves into the top three.

In fact, Notts County turned their form around - they had won one in six before tonight - and jumped above them into fourth place.

The Colchester train continues to head towards the play-off places. Four wins in a row, 12 without defeat, and now just a point outside the top seven.

Defeats for Port Vale and Grimsby makes the top nine look very tight - only seven points split third and ninth.

The only two sides in the bottom 10 in action tonight were Accrington and Newport - and they played each other.

Accrington the comprehensive 5-0 winners. They are now 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

What a climax we had at The Community Stadium with two goals in the space of two minutes and Port Vale hitting the bar with the last kick of the game.

Vale came on strong in the second period having trailed at the break, and former Colchester captain Connor Hall had an effort cleared off the line before Ronan Curtis blasted across the face of goal.

Colchester had loud appeals for a penalty kick waved away by referee Aaron Bannister, and seconds later the U's were picking the ball out of the net as Rico Richards got on the end of a Jayden Stockley nod down with six minutes remaining.

But barely two minutes had elapsed before the home side were back in front as defender Fiacre Kelleher, who became a father to a baby boy over the weekend, headed in Lyle Taylor's free-kick.

With nine minutes of time added on Ronan Curtis rattled the crossbar for the visitors with the final kick of the game.

A year after falling to within goal difference of the League Two relegation zone, Colchester are a point short of the top seven, while Port Vale's 11-game unbeaten run is ended and they remain in sixth place.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Reading 2-0 Wrexham

There is the full-time whistle and how damaging will that defeat be to promotion-chasing Wrexham!

Second-half goals from Harvey Knibbs, from the spot, and Lewis Wing earned the hosts all three points and despite Michael Stickland's red card, the Welsh club were unable to get back into the game.

Reading, after results elsewhere tonight went in their favour, sit just two points outside the play-offs while Wrexham stay third, missing the chance to leapfrog Wycombe and go into the automatic promotion spots.

  8. CLOSE!published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Reading 2-0 Wrexham

Huge chance for the visitors to pull one goal back late on but from six yards out and the goal gaping, substitute Mo Faal inexplicably heads the ball over the bar.

The full-time whistle is about to be greeted with great glee by the home fans here.

Cheltenham Town beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 thanks to goals from Ashley Hay and Matt Taylor in either half. Wimbledon had the chance to move into the top three with a win.

Accrington Stanley are 10 points clear of the bottom two sides after hammering Newport County 5-0.

Chesterfield added a fourth goal late on through Liam Mandeville - his second of the night - to condemn 10-man Salford to a sixth match without a win.

  10. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Reading 2-0 Wrexham

Having said that, the fourth official has announced there will be SEVEN minutes of additional time at the end of this one.

  11. OFF THE LINEpublished at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Reading 2-0 Wrexham

Wrexham's Steven Fletcher looks destined to pull one back for the Welsh side but his left-footed volley is somehow cleared off the line by some heroic last-ditch defending from the Royals.

Moments later, an in-swinging cross from the left finds the head of Fletcher but the 37-year-old is unable to direct the ball under the crossbar and it goes out for a goal-kick.

Reading, with their two-goal advantage, look like they will see this one home.

  12. 'Blues dominated the ball'published at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Stevenage

    Sanny Rudravajhala
BBC Radio 5 Live at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

Fair play to Stevenage. They started brightly and once they were 2-0 down carved out some openings that eventually gave their hardy Tuesday travelling faithful something to cheer with Jake Young's well taken late effort.

Blues, however, dominated the ball and picked Stevenage off. Paik's early goal in the second half took the wind out of the game and gave Chris Davies the chance to get subs on early.

Any negatives? As with the Bolton game last Tuesday we had a late group confrontation on the pitch, with Blues keeper Ryan Allsop picking up a yellow after joining the fray by running half the pitch to get involved. And, Birmingham made it tricky for themselves late on, allowing Stevenage to still be in the contest. That's a little worrying.

But, I'm being picky there. Birmingham are invincible in League One at home. It's 19 unbeaten here now and no-one will be stopping their promotion party here in May.

  13. 'The passing was poor'published at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    FT: Grimsby 0-2 Notts County

    Gary Croft
Former Grimsby defender on BBC Radio Humberside

The passing was poor, in the second half we gave the ball away far too much, and that's not like us, that shows a lack of confidence.

The players that were missing today were always going to make a difference, who would you bring off the bench to get you the goals?

We've got no one to stretch them, Danny Rose knows if he had more time with that chance he'd have put it away, but we can't criticise him, he had about two chances in the game. We didn't create a lot.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Colchester 2-1 Port Vale

Ronan Curtis hits the crossbar and within seconds the full-time whistle blows.

    Drama to the end!

Samson Tovide's brilliant solo goal in the first half looked like it was going to secure the three points for Colchester. Then things went haywire.

Rico Richards levelled for Vale in the 85th minute, before a well-diverted header from Fiacre Kelleher in the 86th minute put the U's back ahead and to four wins on the bounce.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Birmingham City 2-1 Stevenage

It's over at St Andrew's and Birmingham have done enough to go 14 points clear of second-placed Wycombe, just.

Kieran Dowell's first-half penalty and Paik Seung-ho's strike sixty seconds into the second half earned the hosts the win.

Blues boss Chris Davies will be unhappy with how his team played in the second-half, and Jake Young's late goal gave them a scare and the visitors hope but it turned out to be slightly too little, too late.

  16. 'Blues have the points'published at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    FT: Birmingham 2-1 Stevenage

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Blues have their 16th home win of the season. There was a late scare that shouldn't have been, but Blues have the points.

  17. goal

GOAL: Birmingham 2-1 Stevenagepublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Jake Young (94 mins)

    The visitors get one back!

Birmingham have been scrappy since the second goal and Jake Young's right-footed strike from the left edge of the box finds the bottom corner.

We're into the final minute of additional time here.

  18. 'Stevenage have got a goal back'published at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Birmingham 2-1 Stevenage

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

Stevenage have got a goal back through Jake Young, a clean strike through a crowd of players, and the clean sheet is denied for Ryan Allsop.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Grimsby 0-2 Notts County

Who else but Alassana Jatta and David McGoldrick turn the form book on its head?

Jatta is now the leading scorer in League Two after opening the scoring before McGoldrick oozed class to make sure of the points.

County end a three-match winless run to move back within a point of the top three.

  20. Postpublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March

    Colchester 2-1 Port Vale

Vale are on the front foot, as you would imagine but Colchester are defensively strong.

Matt Macey catches a long throw and takes as much time as possible before launching into the Essex night sky and miles away from his goal. Time ticking away.
