For me, it's a harsh one. The tackle is well worth a yellow card. You can slow tackles down and that's the worse they look.
VAR have reacted to the injury more than the tackle. Was there any intent? In my opinion, no. Was it dangerous play? No.

Unfair red card, did not mean any harm.

Manchester United lead at the break thanks to Fridolina Rolfo's superb volley.
But the controversy came at the end of the half, when United defender Dominique Janssen was sent off following a sliding challenge on Gio Garbelini, who had to be carried off the pitch on the stretcher.
However, there did not look enough in the challenge to upgrade it from a yellow card to a red one, but that's what the referee did to drastically change this match.

Can United hang on to the three points with only 10 players? Atletico swing in a corner and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce does well to push it away and then deal with the follow-up effort from Atletico's Luany.

Terrible red card decision, completely based on the injury to the Madrid player.

It was not a red card. There was no malice in the tackle. The United player slipped and the Brazilian landed awkwardly.

An almighty scramble as Atletico, now with a player advantage, try to equalise. The ball hits the chest of United defender Jayde Riviere and she nearly scores an own goal, only for Phallon Tullis-Joyce to just about get there in time to claw the ball off the line.

It looked like Janssen tried to do a slide tackle then lost her footing a bit.
It looked like they kept watching the replay back from different angles. Seeing Gio Garbelini not get up for a while saw them potentially look back into it and make the decision with the red card.

United are down to 10 players. Dominique Janssen is sent off for that challenge on Gio Garbelini, who has had to be carried off on a stretcher.
United a goal up, but a player light for the rest of the game.

Gio Garbelini landed badly on her knee and ankle when hitting the ground from that Dominique Janssen challenge and is needing some lengthy treatment.
But referee Eleni Antoniou may take further action against Dominique Janssen. Antoniou goes to a monitor to watch it again. Janssen could be in trouble.

Brazil striker Gio Garbelini, who had spells in the WSL with Arsenal and Everton, looks to chase on to a through ball but Phallon Tullis-Joyce has a good starting position and is able to sprint off her line and bravely gather the ball at Garbelini's feet.
That's the first time Tullis-Joyce has had anything to do, but she was alert to the potential danger there.

Malard can't believe she's not scored there. She just tried to score with the outside of her foot.

Almost two. Melvine Malard plays a give-and-go with Julia Zigiotti Olme and Malard is through on goal when she prods the ball goalwards.
Malard's strike goes just wide of the post, but Marc Skinner and the United fans will be loving that move as they sliced Atletico open then.

Man Utd are bringing flair to this game and really finding their attacking rhythm.

Fridolina Rolfo has won the Women's Champions League twice when at Barcelona, playing in the 2023 and 2024 finals with Barcelona and scoring in the 3-2 win over Wolfsburg in 2023.
She has also reached the final on three other occasions, twice more with Barcelona and once with Wolfsburg.
Can she have another lengthy run with United this year? Her goal is taking United to six points from six as it stands, but there is a long way to go in this one.

Brilliant goal from Rolfo. The power, the precision.
We often see her out wide, but when she comes into a central area, she can score goals like that. An excellent finish.

Fridolina Rolfo
United take the lead with Fridolina Rolfo's first goal for the club - and what a hit too.
Julia Zigiotti Olme sends an angled ball into the penalty area from deep and home defender Alexia Fernandez heads the ball up, but not out.
But Rolfo then shows superb technique to blast the dropping ball past Lola Gallardo with a fierce volley. Lovely goal.

After some treatment, Atletico's Andrea Medina is OK to carry on.

United's left-back Jayde Riviere misjudges a bouncing ball and clatters into Andrea Medina and catches the opponent down her left leg.
Not a great challenge, but more clumsy than malicious but still bad enough to get Riviere a yellow card, with Medina needing medical treatment.
