And that is your lot from Thomas Tuchel today!

Plenty to take in from that news conference, not least the England head coach's justification for bringing Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford back into the squad.

Tuchel said Henderson "embodies everything we want" and stressed the need to mix experience and leadership with the Three Lions' exciting young talents.

Another big take away is Ben White's situation, and the Arsenal defender's willingness to return to action for his country after making himself unavailable under Gareth Southgate.

  2. 'I put everything in that I have'published at 12:08 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

And finally, on maintaining focus despite what people may say about his decisions - this morning proving a very good example - Thomas Tuchel said: "It is not easy but I try to be offline when it comes to opinions and judgements about myself, the squad and the work we do.

"I put everything in that I have, together with my staff, the federation, the organisation and quality of support the federation gives us

"This is all we can do and then we trust the process, trust our quality and most of all trust our players, that the result is visible in the end.

"In between, I just try to not read or get involved in too many opinions from outside."

  3. 'Lewis-Skelly can handle the heat'published at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

On that theme, one player Thomas Tuchel believes has already proven he can handle the heat is Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Here's a bit more from Tuchel on the Arsenal teenager's inclusion: "If you handle the pressure to be picked constantly at Arsenal then you can handle the pressure [of England].

"He has so much confidence. He proves the point on a weekly basis. He is available three times a week in one of the best teams in Europe, so he can handle the heat.

  4. 'World Cup challenges already in our discussions'published at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Looking ahead to the World Cup in 2026, which will be staged in Canada, Mexico and the USA, Thomas Tuchel was asked about how he can impose a 'Premier League, physical style' amid the conditions expected in America: "Can we cross that bridge when we are at the river?

"It is already now in our discussions and our thoughts, what happens in different climatic conditions and conditions will be very challenging.

"On Friday and Monday we will be fine."

  5. 'Nice to speak with Prince William about football'published at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Prince William this week backed Thomas Tuchel to bring England success in 2026. On that praise, Tuchel said: "It makes me very proud. Yeah of course [it puts pressure on you] but the pressure comes with the job and and the privilege to be in this role.

"I met his royal highness once during a match and then we had another meeting in Windsor Castle and it was nothing but impressive - the way he speaks and how emotionally he supports Aston Villa and of course the national team. It is just so impressive. It was so nice to speak with him about football.

"He has a strong opinion. He was pushing hard for the Aston Villa players which was not needed because we admire them a lot and we admire a lot about what is happening there at the club. It means a lot and is something very special that comes with the role and it's an honour and privilege and it comes with big responsibility."

  6. 'This is not a one man show'published at 11:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Thomas Tuchel was asked about why he decided to pick a completely new coaching team to that which he has had during his club career: "It was part of this decision and it was a tough decision. I felt that I needed a change, a change not only from club to international football but a change in the closest environment that I was blessed until now with all my assistant coaches.

"It was an honour and pleasure to work with all of them. It was very hard to take this decision but deep inside of me I felt I needed an update for myself, I needed change to grow, a change of environment, a new challenge and also a change of my closest coaching staff - it is such a privilege to have such good coaches around me.

"Everyone who knows me knows that this is not a one man show. I will never see it as a one man show. It is my face in the press conferences and on the sideline and I will take the heat but I know very clearly that this is a team effort and coaching a team at this level needs the strongest team. I am glad that I have had friends at my side that are such top coaches.

"I am now glad that I have friends on my side that I can rely on. I have decided on a new coaching staff of the highest level. There is no German assistant coach but nevertheless, it is pure quality. I can rely on them and they give me a lot of freedom and calmness to express myself."

  8. 'Every day I am more happy that I took this role'published at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Discussing what he has learned since taking up the role in January, Thomas Tuchel says: "Every day I am more happy that I took the role and that I was given the chance to be in charge of the England squad. I love the character of the players, the intensity of the Premier League and of course international football.

"I think we had a good start together, me and the federation but the staff and the players - we established a line of communication as far as is possible. We are excited to be on the pitch on Monday to feel the players, to hug the players and to push the players on the training pitch and this will make a huge difference."

  9. Tuchel on how he's finding the job so farpublished at 11:51 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

It's been a big day for Thomas Tuchel. But how is he finding the job so far?

"Difficult, I miss the pitch! I miss the smell of the grass, the contact of the players, the dressing room, the humour, the laughing in the dressing room, the emotions and of course also the rhythm. On the other side it was much more intense than I thought. I learned already a lot," he said.

"I feel the support of the federation. I feel the quality and the structure of the federation to make me a better coach. This is the experience I was looking for and I was excited for. Everything is fine and the cherry on top comes now when the players come into camp and we are finally back on the pitch."

  10. 'It's easy - Kane is captain'published at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Regarding his choice of captain - which will remain Harry Kane - Thomas Tuchel said: "It's easy, the decision is made and the decision stands - Harry is the captain."

On which other squad members he might look at to take on a leadership role if there's an injury to Kane, Tuchel added: "I'm not so sure I'm ready to debate this in public. It’s a very good question and I have a clear idea about it but I think the players deserve to know first and then I will let you know."

  11. 'Hopefully it is an exciting watch'published at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

On whether he is going to try and give this England team a 'club feel', Thomas Tuchel said: "I think yes, this is what we try to do. We will inject a little bit of club football into federation and international football.

"It starts maybe with the language, the coaching. We are used to that and will try to do it.

"I think we need to increase the rhythm and intensity of our game compared to our last matches - this is where the focus is.

"Hopefully it is an exciting watch and will have the effect we wish for."

  12. Watch: Henderson embodies everything we want'published at 11:45 Greenwich Mean Time

It was always going to be one of the big topics after Thomas Tuchel's first England squad was announced this morning.

Here is the England head coach's full answer on the inclusion of both Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford.

  13. 'I will earn my right to be in this place'published at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Asked about what it's like to be head coach of England as a German, Thomas Tuchel says: "Exciting and a bit surreal.

"It’s a big honour and I’m very proud of it. I’m very well aware of it - that it’s a special honour to have the chance to coach this team as a foreign coach

"I will make sure I earn my right to be in this place."

  14. 'It will be my job and responsibility to keep the connection'published at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

On how he will implement his values when he is not with the squad, Thomas Tuchel adds: "We will need to learn how we do it, I don't have a clear answer on that. It is a good question because I think it will be very important. If we only focus on six camps and the 60 days it will not be enough.

"We will start now with the first camp and then it will be my job and responsibility to keep the connection to the players that we establish now. It will be easier once we've met in person and after we've had this first experience and matches together.

"It will be my responsibility and then the responsibility of the players to stay together, stay in touch and take care of the values that we implement."

  15. 'I don’t really get the point of the story'published at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

After being asked about the scrutiny he has received for spending time in Germany, Thomas Tuchel responded: "I think you confuse the time a little bit between October and January. I was many times in Germany and enjoyed my time off because I was not on the job.

"Since I am on the job I’m based in London, I spend many days in St George's Park, we watched almost 25 matches live to see every player like at least once in the stadium - a lot of traveling

"From time to time I was in Germany to see my children but the majority of the time I was here in London so I don’t really get the point of the story.”

  16. 'There are different categories on why players are picked'published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Thomas Tuchel has stressed the need to combine experience of exciting young players and was asked if the inclusion of Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson, as well as keeping Harry Kane as captain, is a means of achieving continuity.

"Let's see. I'm not sure. It's a sign of what we are looking for in terms of values and how we want to build a squad and what we think you have to bring to the table to be picked," Tuchel says.

"There are different categories to be picked. You can be picked on form, on availability, on responsibility, on leadership, on personality, you are maybe picked because someone gets injured - there are different reasons.

"In the end it is about building a strong group and what you bring beside your talent and being a top professional because that is a given. It's what you bring to this group to make us better as a team."

  17. 'We will not invent new football'published at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

We know the first squad, but how will the starting 11 look and how will Thomas Tuchel set his side up in terms of tactics and style?

On that topic, tuchel says:"We have all the options. We called up nine defenders to have options. We will see how they adapt.

"I don't want to give it away right now whether we are playing with a back four or five - I'd like to keep this information to us regarding the respect that we have towards Albania and Latvia.

"I think we have a lot of options. We chose some players because they are able to play in more than one position. I think that the challenge is to combine all of these different ideas into one idea and maybe more than ever it is important that less is more.

"We will not invent new football in the four days we have before the first match. There will be a lot on video and on the pitch and then we need to find a structure and identity that suits everyone and that everyone understands quickly and give everyone freedom to express themselves and show their talent."

  18. 'White wants to be back'published at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Here's more from Thomas Tuchel on that line we brought you a few minutes ago that Ben White is keen for an England return.

Asked if White declined a call-up, having made himself unavailable under former boss Gareth Southgate, Tuchel said: "Absolutely not.

"I just think it's a bit too early given the seriousness of the injury he had. I'm delighted he's back, he's back now in training. We were monitoring the process and huge compliments to the medical and performance department of the FA.

"And thanks to everyone at Arsenal to let us monitor closely so we are on it, speaking to Ben that we are delighted that he is back on the bench. He had a Champions League match now in the second leg and I think now it's just the question about getting more minutes, more rhythm and then he has every chance to be back. He wants to be back, he’s glad to be back."

  19. 'The journey starts with the first camp'published at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

England manager Thomas Tuchel on whether he believes the 'physicality' he has mentioned has previously been missing from this England side: "I don't think a lot is missing. Obviously a little bit is because we are consecutive in semi-finals and finals and the feeling is that a little step is needed to bring it over the line.

"I am convinced that if we want to be prepared to be in the next final and make the last step - we need to do it in the first camp.

"This journey starts with the first camp. We only have six camps. We only have 60 days. We have to take care of every single day and make sure that we are on point. If we do this, hopefully the last step will take care of itself.

"We need a little bit of luck and momentum. We cannot plan to win the World Cup, that is not possible. Playing style is just one piece of the puzzle and it has to suit the players, the values of the league where the majority play in and this is what we will try to do."

  20. 'We should be brave enough to play like an England squad'published at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time

    England

Thomas Tuchel on what qualities he believes he can bring to this England side: "My qualities? I can just bring myself. I have nothing else to add. I bring my devotion and my emotion and my joy and passion for football. I hope the players will feel my love for where I am and what I do and hopefully this can come across."

On what playing style he hopes to implement: "I think it needs to reflect the Premier League. The Premier League is a very physical and demanding league. I think we should be brave enough to play like an England squad. We should not try to copy other nations or other styles - it just reflect the values of the country with the strongest league in the world. We will try to implement a direct, attacking style and we will try to increase the rhythm and intensity of our game. We will try to do this in a crash course on Monday and unleash the potential on Friday."
