Nottingham Forest do not want to sell Anthony Elanga.

The winger has become a key man at the City Ground and Forest have rejected an offer, reportedly worth £45m, from Newcastle.

The Magpies have admired the 23-year-old for a while and tried to bring him to St James' Park last summer.

Yet Forest are prepared to stand firm and want to keep their big players ahead of returning to Europe next season after sealing a Europa Conference League play-off spot.

Elanga played in every one of Forest's Premier League games last season, making 31 starts and scoring six times as Nuno Espirito Santo's side finished seventh.

He joined for £15m from Manchester United in 2023 and has made 82 appearances for Forest, scoring 11 goals.

  5. How has Gittens performed for Dortmund?published at 12:13 British Summer Time

Forward Jamie Gittens, who is at the centre of the rumour mill as he is being linked to clubs like Chelsea, has not been used heavily at the Club World Cup.

He has only played in one of Dortmund's two games so far, coming off the bench for the final 13 minutes of their 0-0 draw against Fluminense.

  6. Who has impressed for Dortmund at Club World Cup?published at 12:07 British Summer Time

A few players have been impressive for Borussia Dortmund so far at the Club World Cup, notably Jamie Gittens' fellow Englishman Jobe Bellingham.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who signed earlier this month from Sunderland, has made an instant impact by scoring in Dortmund's 4-3 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

  7. Who do Dortmund play next?published at 12:03 British Summer Time

Borussia Dortmund have not guaranteed their spot in the last 16 at the Club World Cup yet and their final group match, against Ulsan HD, will decide their fate.

They are joint-leaders of Group F with Fluminese on four points but third-place Mamelodi Sundowns are on three points, so Dortmund could miss out if they lose and the South African side win.

Dortmund play Ulsan HD later at 20:00 BST, with Mamelodi Sundowns facing Brazilian outfit Fluminese at the same time.

  8. What could Gittens bring to Chelsea?published at 11:48 British Summer Time

    Noel Sliney
    BBC Sport

Jamie Gittens ranked in the top 2% among wingers for successful dribbles in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024-25.

Gittens also scored twice as many goals as expected based on the quality of his chances, an overperformance only bettered by five players in Europe’s leading divisions last seaso

However, he ranks in the bottom 20% for chances created and registered fewer assists than any of Chelsea’s other likely wingers for next season. Nonetheless, the stats overall suggest he’d provide something different to the club’s current options.

Jamie Gittens stats compared to similar players

Jamie Gittens scored 11 goals in the first half of a breakthrough 2024-25 campaign but only added one more after mid-January and has been largely out of favour since the arrival in February of new head coach Niko Kovac, who prefers a 3-5-2 system.

A rapid right-footed winger who’s most comfortable on the left flank, Gittens’ top speed of 22.34mph last season was the 16th fastest in the German top flight.

That pace helps him excel in one-against-one situations – he came top among Bundesliga players across all competitions last season for dribbles attempted and completed.

Chelsea have restarted talks with Borussia Dortmund over winger Jamie Gittens in an attempt to find an agreement.

The Blues had a £42m offer for the 20-year-old rejected on 10 June.

The England Under-21 international has played just 13 minutes in the Club World Cup under Dortmund boss Niko Kovac and is keen to move to Stamford Bridge having previously been offered a seven-year deal with the club.

Bayern Munich are known to be interested but unlikely to progress talks.

Paul Pogba was provisionally suspended after being randomly tested following Juventus' opening game of the 2023-24 season against Udinese.

The World Cup winner later received a four-year ban which was reduced to 18 months in October following an appeal.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been free to recommence his career since March after reaching an agreement with Juventus to leave the Italian club.

In the final judgement of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) it was confirmed Pogba inadvertently took DHEA, a substance which boosts testosterone and is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) banned list.

Crucially, however, the ruling stated DHEA only has an affect on females.

Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer Neymar has renewed his contract with boyhood club Santos until December.

The 33-year-old returned to the Brazilian club on a six-moth deal in January after the termination of his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Neymar has scored 141 goals and made 69 assists in 243 appearances for Santos, including three goals and three assists in 14 games since rejoining his first club.

The former Paris St-Germain and Barcelona forward had been linked with a return to Europe before signing a new deal with Santos until the end of the Brazilian Serie A season, with an option to extend.

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this week.

The 30-year-old has a £5m release clause after adding an extra year to his contract last summer before a successful loan spell at Bournemouth.

The former Spain international will soon join Arsenal to compete with compatriot David Raya for the starting spot.

Arsenal needed a new number two goalkeeper after opting against a permanent move for Neto, who spent last season on loan at Emirates Stadium from Bournemouth.

It’s record temperatures in Philadelphia. It felt like 36 degrees when they were playing even at 9pm at the Lincoln Financial Field but there were a few good performers – I thought Enzo Fernandez was good, a couple of debuts for Andrey Santos and Mamadou Sarr off the bench.

Chelsea are looking in good shape all of a sudden with sort of favourable games to come in the knockout stages. They go through as runners-up after losing to Flamengo, who finished first.

A lot of people are saying that Flamengo have ended up with the more difficult tie as they play the team who finished second [in Group C], which is Bayern Munich, and Chelsea play the team who finished first which is Benfica.

They've avoided a difficult team in the quarter-finals because they'd face Brazilian opposition and you'd expect Chelsea, with their resources, to be favourites, so it's a nice route to the semi-finals in New York for Chelsea.

I don’t know what all this judgement over Jackson is. Truth is he just hasn’t hit the heights yet. If he was scoring massive goals at important times like Drogba did again and again, all would be forgiven. And Didier was sent off in a Champions League final! Jackson needs love, support and belief, and he’ll get there. Great to have two young strikers with so much potential at the club.

Nicolas Jackson's late studs-up challenge on Flamengo defender Lucas Ayrton at the end of a disastrous six-minute collapse, where goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo cancelled out Neto's early strike, put him in the firing line after a poor 3-1 defeat in the Blues' second match.

The 24-year-old, on his birthday, had only been on the field four minutes after replacing Delap, with his suspension opening the door for his rival to also start the final group game.

Jackson was subsequently banned for a further match by world governing body Fifa, so will miss the last-16 tie against Benfica.

Chelsea were well-beaten by Flamengo with one source describing it as a "wake-up call" about the level of South American opposition, who arrive at the Club World Cup mid-season.

Chelsea will face Brazilian opposition again if they reach the quarter-finals, with Palmeiras and Botafogo playing each other in a last-16 tie.
