    Crystal Palace 3-1 AZ Alkmaar

    Glenn Hoddle
Former England and Tottenham manager on TNT Sports

What is so good about that goal is AZ got themselves back in the game and Palace have created a wonderful goal.

A beautifully weighted ball to Ismaila Sarr, who is prepared to run in behind.

A terrific goal. What's so nice about that goal is we don't have to wait for VAR.

Lovely penalty from Donyell Malen and Villa are in control now.

The keeper goes the right way but Malen's low driven spot-kick is right in the bottom corner.

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

You could see the referee looking at his assistant, and he didn't give the penalty until he had that conversation.

And after seeing it, you can see why the referee wasn't sure.

  4. Postpublished at 21:21 GMT

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

Referee sticks to his decision and it is a Villa penalty.

  5. VAR

VAR is checking this. There was contact but was it enough to really be a foul?

  6. 'Peretz has to do better'published at 21:20 GMT

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

Good stuff at both ends. When the ball lands at Peretz, he gives Martinez enough time to make a decision. You've got to do better than that to beat him.

Then there was a terrific ball on the break for Malen but he didn't do enough.

  7. goal

GOAL - Crystal Palace 3-1 AZ Alkmaarpublished at 21:20 GMT

    Ismaïla Sarr

A match that just keeps on giving...

Two minutes after conceding, Palace restore their two-goal cushion as Ismaïla Sarr keeps his composure and beats the keeper with a low finish.

It's good work in the build-up by Jean-Philippe Mateta who makes up for that missed penalty by providing the assist.

  8. PENALTY TO VILLApublished at 21:20 GMT

  9. Postpublished at 21:20 GMT

    Crystal Palace 2-1 AZ Alkmaar

    Glenn Hoddle

Sven Mijnans turns on it beautifully and there is a deflection.

That is why Dean Henderson cannot get his hands up.

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

    Chances at both ends.

Dor Peretz shoots straight at Emiliano Martinez again, not as bad a miss as the first half, but still he should have done better.

Villa counter and Donyell Malen is denied by the away keeper.

After a fairly long break in play Maccabi keeper Roi Mishpati is OK and play restarts.

Sarr is going to be a huge miss for Palace during the AFCON. Since Eze left, he's become our biggest threat from midfield, and his form recently has been up there with the best in the league. Not sure our bench has a player as creative to fill the void?

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:17 GMT

    Crystal Palace 2-0 AZ Alkmaar

Ismaïla Sarr has hardly put a foot wrong all night but the Palace man gets on the wrong side of the referee after going down in the box and appealing for a penalty.

When it's not given, he throws his arms in the air and fires off a few words...out comes the yellow card.

  15. 'Unfortunate collision for Mashpati'published at 21:16 GMT

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

Mashpati saves well first, then takes Malen out after the ball is gone. It's an unfortunate collision.

  16. 'Henderson was scrambling'published at 21:15 GMT

    Crystal Palace 2-0 AZ Alkmaar

    Glenn Hoddle

Kees Smit got a lot of power on it.

He's trying to hit it into the top corner, but it couldn't come down quick enough.

    Dean Henderson was scrambling.

  17. CLOSE!published at 21:15 GMT

    Crystal Palace 2-0 AZ Alkmaar

Sloppy Palace passing leads to a rare chance for the Dutch visitors and teenager Kees Smit hits it with some venom from outside the box...that's not bad at all, just over the bar.

Big chance for Villa to double their lead.

Ian Maatsen's long-range drive is parried by keeper Roi Mishpati and Donyell Malen pokes the rebound wide from close range.

  20. 'Great opportunity for Villa to win Europa League'published at 21:12 GMT

Aston Villa 1-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

It's a great opportunity for Aston Villa this season in the Europa League with a manager who's used to winning it and players who have gained experience over the last few years. They have Champions League experience as well.
