As usual Unai Emery has ‘over-tinkered’ and we look very disjointed. We are also looking for trouble with our high line and it might cost us in the end, but the decent bench should see us over the line.

The strike from Maxence Lacroix was fantastic. When it comes back to him it is a beautiful strike into the bottom corner.

The hard thing about VAR is there's things that it's good for, but moments like that, it is tough to go and celebrate.

  7. 'Superb to score from that angle'published at 21:02 GMT

What this game needed was an injection of pace. It's been a bit laboured. It's been a bit safe.

Aston Villa go in and attract players around them, and it comes from that triangle of Maatsen, Sancho and Rogers.

It's come from a run in behind which they weren't doing. To score from that angle is absolutely superb.

As a Villa fan, it’s hard watching the positive updates for Palace and simultaneously seeing that we are being average again.

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter at Villa Park

It was a nothing half although Maccabi Tel Aviv should have gone ahead, Dor Peretz missing a golden chance.

Villa had no momentum or real rhythm and Ian Maatsen's goal in injury-time gives them a barely deserved lead.

Again, it is about getting the first contact from the free kick.

What a time to score, just before you go down that tunnel.

Ismaïla Sarr just gets there before the keeper. Palace have looked really dangerous.

It's a combination between those three, Sancho, Rogers and Maatsen. It's a terrific finish.

Clever play, Rogers stands still which allows space.

What a finish that is from Maatsen.

After winning his side a penalty earlier and being denied by a couple of wonderful saves, Sarr doubles the lead right on half time.
