As a United fan it could be really easy to be pessimistic looking at the fixtures but I'm choosing to be optimistic. We were the better team against Arsenal at the end of the season and didn't get the result we deserve, we should get results against Fulham and Burnley. We were the better team against Chelsea too and we beat City, all when we were supposedly not very good. I want to leave the negativity of last season behind and look at the opportunities ahead. We get off to a good start. That could be a real marker put down. If we can get 8-10 points that's a good start.

Image source, Getty ImagesLeeds United will begin their life back in the Premier League with a game against Everton at home on Monday, 18 August.
Daniel Farke's side finished top of the Championship last season with 100 points to end a two-year stay in the second division.
Leeds will then face 2024-25 runners-up Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 23 August before welcoming Newcastle United to Elland Road the following week.
Farke's side will take on Manchester United at home on 3 January - exactly 16 years on from their famous FA Cup victory over the Red Devils. It remains Leeds' last win over United.
Despite being 43 places lower in the league than their fierce rivals, Jermaine Beckford's winner gave the then League One Leeds the 1-0 win over United at Old Trafford on 3 January, 2010 in one of the biggest upsets the competition has seen.
United had never before lost in the third round of the FA Cup or been knocked out of it by a lower-division side during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign as their manager.
Will it be another memorable result for the Whites come January 2026? Or will United take revenge 16 years on?

Image source, Getty ImagesPerhaps one of the reasons Manchester United have the best opening day record in the Premier League era – with 22 wins from 33 games – is because they regularly kick off their campaigns at Old Trafford.
2025-26 will be the ninth consecutive season that the Red Devils start their season with home advantage and it’s also the 23rd time in Premier League history, a figure only matched by their opening day opponents for this campaign, Arsenal.

Image source, Getty ImagesManchester United will host Arsenal at Old Trafford in perhaps the most eye-catching fixture on the opening weekend of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
It is only the second time in history that the two sides will be facing each other in the opening game of a domestic league campaign.
The last time they did so, the Red Devils were comfortable 4-1 winners in 1989-90, with Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes among the scorers that day for Alex Ferguson’s side.
It is also just the fourth time the two teams will contest a league fixture in August and United have won each of the previous three, including the famous 8-2 thrashing in 2011.
Coincidentally, it’s the ninth consecutive season that Manchester United have kicked off their season at home. The last time they travelled away for an opening day fixture was in 2016-17, when Jose Mourinho’s side registered a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth.

And Chelsea will be looking to build on a 2024-25 season where they finished fourth in the Premier League to earn Champions League qualification and also won a European trophy in the Conference League.
The Blues, who are currently in the United States where they are taking part in the Fifa Club World Cup, will begin their domestic campaign with a game against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on 17 August.
That will be the first of four consecutive London derbies that they will compete in at the start of the 2025-26 season.
They will be at West Ham the following week before Fulham make the short hop for a third successive London derby for Maresca's side on 30 August.
Their run of fixtures in London will finish with a trip to Brentford on 13 September before their first trip outside the capital will see them face Manchester United at Old Trafford on 20 September.

Aston Villa clung onto their Champions League hopes until the final game of last season and they must avoid another mid-season collapse this time.
Around 10 rocky weeks between October and January derailed their season and top five dreams yet they still managed to finish sixth.
There is the chance for opening day revenge in the early kick off against Newcastle at Villa Park following last season's 5-1 defeat at St James' Park in their first match.
Aside from the Magpies, Villa do not face another team who finished above them until Manchester City and Liverpool in game weeks nine and 10.
It means Opta's Power Rating has deemed their opening five games, which also includes Brentford, Crystal Palace, Everton and Sunderland as the 'kindest' in the Premier League.

It started with Liverpool’s 6-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace in 1994 and most recently occurred when Liverpool again won, this time in a 4-3 thriller versus Marcelo Bielsa’s newly promoted Leeds United in 2020.
Like Liverpool, Arsenal have been involved in three opening-day fixtures that have featured seven goals, most recently beating Leicester 4-3 at home in 2017.
