Wrexham maintained the pressure on League One leaders Birmingham and second-placed Wycombe Wanderers as they eased to victory at Northampton Town.
Sam Smith latched on to Mark Howard's long ball to hit Wrexham's opener in the 19th minute.
Ollie Rathbone doubled the visitors' lead before the break after finishing off his own fine run with a neat finish.
The Cobblers could not muster a reply, ensuring Phil Parkinson's side stay third while the hosts dropped a place to 18th before the day's later games.
