It'd be nice to see an England performance that isn't laboured for a change. The clock is ticking now, we can't go into the World Cup on the back of regularly stuttering, inconsistent performances.

  5. The midfield dilemma for Tuchelpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time

    Alex Howell
BBC Sport football reporter at St George's Park

It's fair to say that Thomas Tuchel's first four England games in charge of the team have not set the world alight.

He's had routine wins over Albania and Latvia, a frustrating win over Andorra and a friendly loss to Senegal.

Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are nailed on to start for England in the middle of the pitch but the question is who will be the third midfielder to join them.

There's a lack of number sixes in the squad and Tuchel has called up Elliot Anderson and Ruben Loftus-Cheek alongside Jordan Henderson as options.

He did also call up Palace midfielder Adam Wharton but he has had to withdraw through injury.

  6. Loftus-Cheek 'completely forgot' about Englandpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time

England v Andorra (Sat, 17:00 BST)

Ruben Loftus-Cheek says he "completely forgot" about playing for England and was "just a fan" during his near seven-year absence from the national team.

Loftus-Cheek's last appearance for the Three Lions came in a friendly against the United States in November 2018 after he had been part of Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad that reached the semi-finals in Russia the same year.

The 29-year-old midfielder ruptured his Achilles in 2019 playing for Chelsea in a friendly in the USA before the Europa League final, and subsequently dropped out of the England reckoning.

He joined AC Milan in 2023 and has made 71 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering three assists.

"When I ruptured my Achilles, I was on such a high [before it happened], so after that I had a hard time mentally," said Loftus-Cheek.

"But I was still young, I still had time to come back, so I wasn't too low."

He added he had "got used" to not joining up with England because he had been away for so long.

"You still want to push in club football with the hope of maybe getting a sniff," he said.

"But I just completely forgot about it and was being a fan of the team instead."

Before Levy, there was no 'big six', only the 'big four'. He stabilised and grew a mid-table team into consistent European challengers. But he also failed to take us to the next level by not adapting once we got there. Thankful for what he did, but glad he's gone.

    I think he's a top manager.

He's maybe got a little bit of stick about the way that England played, and those games are just nonsense really.

You turn up and you just know England are going to win the game. It's 10 men sitting behind the ball, and you've got to break them down, which is not easy against any team.

I used to love playing for England. Watching England now and some of the games, you know they're going to win, it can be a bit boring. Obviously, getting into the tournament, that's when you enjoy it.

The last few games, it was against Andorra or something like that. It was painful.

(I feel) sorry for Thomas Tuchel because he probably wants a decent game where he can go and show what he can do. It's a no-win [situation] really.

I think for Thomas Tuchel, you want to see England having to sit back and defend and having tactically to break down teams.

Against the better teams [that chance] will come. So, I think he'll do really well for England. Whether they'll win the World Cup... you don't know, I think that he's got one shot, hasn't he?

  10. Omissions and new call-upspublished at 10:30 British Summer Time

England v Andorra (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport Journalist

It's not just injuries that Thomas Tuchel has to deal with. It is also omissions and new call-ups to the England squad.

Tuchel has made notable selection calls, leaving out Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Everton's Jack Grealish in favour of Reece James and Marcus Rashford.

Djed Spence and Elliot Anderson have also been included and could make their England debuts, along with James Trafford and Jarrell Quansah.

Nothing better illustrates the changes in the game in the last 30 years, than a club chairman leaving a club generating more media interest than a player or manager. I much preferred the old days when club officials were mostly not seen or heard.

  12. Injuries facing Tuchel and Englandpublished at 10:24 British Summer Time

England v Andorra (Sat, 17:00 BST)

    England

Thomas Tuchel has named his latest England squad, but injuries have left it looking threadbare in key areas.

Tuchel’s selection reflects the mounting fitness concerns as England prepares for a crucial window, with several fringe players now handed an opportunity to impress.

The Three Lions will have to cope without several star names for the upcoming fixtures, including:

    • Bukayo Saka
    • Jude Bellingham
    • Phil Foden
    • Cole Palmer
    • Levi Colwill
    • Adam Wharton - initially called up but withdrawn after suffering an injury in Crystal Palace’s recent match.
  13. 'The competition is on'published at 10:21 British Summer Time

England v Andorra (Sat, 17:00 BST)

Thomas Tuchel said "the competition is on" for places, with the World Cup starting next June.

"I don't like the phone calls [telling players they are not included] but I kind of like them because it shows we have players pushing and players fighting for a place in the squad," the England manager said.

    "That's exactly what we want."

Tuchel named a 26-man squad last time out but the German has deliberately cut it for 24 for September's games.

"We have made the squad more tight, more competitive. We have to create a better feeling, we have to bring more energy," he added.

  14. Tuchel and Burn to give thoughtspublished at 10:17 British Summer Time

    Alex Howell
BBC Sport football reporter at St George's Park

We're back at St George's Park and ready to hear from Thomas Tuchel and Dan Burn before the match with Andorra tomorrow.

As usual Tuchel is going to be asked about his selection thoughts as well as how the new players in the squad have done this week in training.

England beat Andorra in a disappointing 1-0 win in June and Tuchel has said that he expects a different feeling and energy during the matches in this window.

Won't have a bad word said about what Levy has done at Spurs. Whilst most fans would like more spend on the team, he’s built an infrastructure that will set us up for generations. We won’t be mentioned in PSR conversations. Other clubs are doing it wrong, not us.

  18. What will be Levy's legacy as his Spurs era ends?published at 10:01 British Summer Time

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Tottenham Hotspur's executive chairman Daniel Levy - who has "stepped down" after almost 25 years - will always be regarded as one of the most contentious figures in their history.

He was the driving force behind the world-class infrastructure the club now boasts, from the magnificent new £1bn stadium that stands comparison with any in the sport, to the spectacular training headquarters at Hotspur Way in Enfield.

And yet, instead of being lauded for these towering achievements, Levy's time at the top always be overshadowed for many fans by the lack of success associated with his reign.

While he still retains a minority ownership but will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the club, the news of Levy's exit will be greeted with undisguised delight by a large percentage of the Spurs fanbase.

Levy will also be forever associated with instability, including a revolving door of 12 sacked managers as Spurs reached 16 semi-finals and seven finals, not including the recent Uefa Super Cup.

And it is the lack of silverware that will always cast a dark cloud over his chairmanship.

History will be kind when his achievements off the field are reflected upon - but there can be no escaping the failures on it.

In his time at the helm, Spurs won only the League Cup under Juande Ramos in 2008, then the Europa League last season, with Levy then courting criticism after their first glory in 17 years by sacking manager Ange Postecoglou 16 days after the win against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Levy, thanks for making the club stable financially and Interesting comment "had to operate with one hand tied behind his back". Chucking money at players (Leeds, Wigan and Blackburn are examples) is not always the answer. Lets hope Spurs return to being the winner in entertainment.

All the talk of 2 trophies in 17 years with Levy. How many trophies had they won in the 17 years before, just 2. Spurs have been business first since the Eighties. Nothing will change if the actual owners don't loosen the wage cap.
