UEFA Champions League
All competitions
This is the first meeting between Galatasaray and FC Bayern München since the 1972-73 European Cup first round, with Galatasaray drawing 1-1 at home before a 6-0 away defeat in the second leg.
Galatasaray have never won a UEFA Champions League home game against German opposition before, drawing three and losing two of their five such matches.
Bayern Munich have won their last five meetings with Turkish opponents by an aggregate score of 18-1. Their most recent such encounters came in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League round of 16, beating Besiktas 5-0 at home and 3-1 away.
After their win against Manchester United on MD2, Galatasaray could record consecutive wins in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since November-December 2012 (3). However, they haven’t won at home in the competition since September 2018 (3-0 v Lokomotiv Moscow), going winless in their last six (D3 L3).
Bayern Munich are looking to win their opening three games of a UEFA Champions League campaign for the fifth consecutive tournament, having done in every season since 2019-20. They’ve won each of their last seven away games in the group stage of the competition, and are unbeaten in their last 18 away from home in the group stage (W16 D2).
Galatasaray have scored five goals in their two UEFA Champions League games this season (two v FC København and three v Manchester United), already more than they scored in their previous tournament appearance in 2019-20 (one goal in six games), while they’ve already equalled their shots on target total from 2019-20 as well (9).
Galatasaray have already had five different goalscorers in the UEFA Champions League this season (Tetê, Zaha, Icardi, Boey and Aktürkoglu) – the last time they had more different scorers in a single edition of the tournament was in 2012-13 (seven players).
18-year-old Mathys Tel has scored in both of Bayern Munich’s games in the UEFA Champions League this season (two goals). No teenager has ever netted more than twice for Bayern in a single edition of the tournament, with Kingsley Coman in 2015-16 the only other teen to net more than once (2).
Three of Galatasaray’s five goals in the UEFA Champions League this season have been scored in the final 10 minutes of play (86th and 88th v FC København, 81st v Manchester United) – indeed, they’ve netted more goals in this time period than any other side so far.
Bayern Munich are the team that have the highest take-on success rate in the UEFA Champions League this season (67% - 29/43), while the German side have the most different players with 5+ successful take-ons in the tournament so far (7 for Coman, 6 for Sané and 6 for Musiala).
